Conversations with people of Garifuna origin about their lives and the Garifuna Language. Garifuna Onward (Gari-On) is an initiative started to promote and encourage more people to learn the Garifuna Language. In each episode we discuss topics such as the Growing up Garifuna, the Garifuna Language and play games such as Garifuna Say for those who understand Garifuna or Garifuna Word Match for those who do not understand Garifuna. Garifuna are a people of Carib and Arawak origins who were exiled from St. Vincent in the West Indies to Baliceaux. They moved in search of a better life.

    #SandraMirandaGeorge⁠ is a proud Garifuna woman and mother, past president of the National Garifuna Council (NGC), Belize - Executive Branch and a retired civil servant who has worked in several government ministries in Belize. She has worked on proposals for funding to support NGC initiatives such as the Cassava House located in Dangriga Town, Stann Creek District, Belize. She is a finance professional and was also an Accounting tutor at University of the West Indies (UWI) extension in Belize. Ms. Sandra is open to being a mentor.     #Izzy is a proud Garifuna young man who is an up-and-coming author, a high school student and member of the Habayan Uwarani Garifuna Cultural Club. The group was founded by Mrs. Dorina Castillo and the late great Mrs. Margaret Castillo and is now coordinated by her daughter Mrs. Clarene Castillo-Alvarez. Mrs. Dorina Castillo plays a major role in exposing the children to local and international culture exchange opportunities.Izzy hails from Dangriga Town, Belize C.A. He is very passionate about finding ways to make learning Garifuna easy to learn as he is learning Garifuna. The book he is writing will be called Garifuna Made Easy with Izzy. She hails from Dangriga Town, Belize C.A and is the daughter of the late Cannon Jerris Valentine. She is a former teacher and principal of Stann Creek Ecumenical College. She has partnered with Dr. Gwen Nunez Gonzalez and others on The Yurumein Project which aims to ensure the Garifuna Language continues for generations to come by facilitating the learning of the language through classes. She is the mother of several musicians such as Supa G Martinez, Adrian ‘The Doc’ Martinez, Elroy ‘Elstar’ Martinez, Timo Martinez, Berth Martinez and Elsworth Martinez who all understand and speak Garifuna. She has done song collaborations with her son, Supa G. One of the well-known songs is on YouTube called Uba Erei (Give Us Strength). She was born and raised in Dangriga Town, Belize C. A. Her products including, bonnets and hair scrunchies are available for sale via her business page called Gloriously Hers Collection on Facebook & Instagram. She also creates special order products such as dresses, blouses, skirts, Garifuna outfits and dashikis for her clients. She uses her creativity in different forms to express herself and promote her custom-made products. She is a daughter, sister, mother, wife, cousin and friend.
