Hard Work, Patience, More Hard Work: 10 Years Pro, and the Life Hockey Built

Jeff Lovecchio was the last player picked and the worst player on his first AAA hockey team. His mom sent him into the end-of-year meeting with a notebook and one question: what can I do this summer to help the team win? He wrote down every answer and spent the summer as a rink rat. A year later he was the best player on the team. That work ethic took him to a scholarship at Western Michigan, where he was the only sophomore captain in NCAA Division I hockey. From there it was a contract with the Boston Bruins and ten years of professional hockey across North America, Europe, and Japan, through 14 concussions. Today he’s the founder of GMBM (Give More Be More), with four gyms inside St. Louis rinks and 19 years of developing athletes. In this episode of Fit2Perform, Brad and Jeff get into the three-word philosophy his dad drilled into him, why confidence is earned and never given, why more is not better (better is better), how saying yes to everything rebuilt his life after hockey, and why he’s outgrown money as the measure of success. Shoot for the stars, land on the moon. Either way, go all in. What You’ll Learn “Hard work, patience, more hard work”: the only hockey advice Jeff’s dad ever gave him, why it now hangs as a neon sign in his gym, and how it made him a captain over more talented playersWhy confidence is earned through preparation, and how 93 straight days in the weight room after a freak injury brought him back more confident than before he got hurtThe formula Jeff lives by: intention plus effort plus consistency. Plus why doing three things at a 10 out of 10 beats doing everything at a 5How a 15-month concussion recovery, a last-cut demotion from Bruins camp, and a career in Italy, Norway, Austria, and Japan turned him into a coach who can make anyone understand anythingThe “Yes Man” rule: 1,000+ podcasts and every free speech he was ever asked to give, and how a talk to a team of nine-year-olds led to a paid keynote in front of 300 peopleConnect with Jeff Lovecchio GMBM: https://gmbm.comLinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/jeff-lovecchio-85014a152/Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/jefflovecchio/?hl=enConnect with the Show Fit2Perform | Hosted by Brad Clifford Follow, subscribe, and leave a review wherever you get your podcasts.

Culture Is What You Tolerate: The Philosophy Behind 8.2 Years Average Tenure

Jay Riding started knocking doors at 16 to make a few hundred bucks. He never stopped. Today he's a founding partner of EcoShield — the #3 privately-held pest control company in the US — which grew from $2 million to $450 million in revenue over 12 years, with 140 leadership partners who average over 8 years of tenure. In this episode of Fit2Perform, Brad and Jay go deep on what it actually takes to build the kind of culture that retains great people, the 'I don't mind' philosophy that separates prepared high performers from anxious ones, why the illiterate of the 21st century won't be people who can't read, the lockbox standard of leadership, and why winning an argument with your spouse means they lost. This is a friendship on record — no filter, all substance. What You'll Learn The 'I Don't Mind' philosophy — what it truly means (the exact opposite of 'I don't care'), where it comes from, and why prepared leaders can access it in high-pressure moments while underprepared ones cannotWhy culture is the soil, not the strategy — the Latin root that reframes everything about what leaders actually tend toThe book club system Jay's team has run for 10 straight years: two books a month, eight months a year, weekly accountability, monthly workshops — and why the why is learn, relearn, and unlearnThe Navy SEAL quadrant principle applied to sales culture: why the high performer who's also an a-hole is the single greatest threat to a teamWhy complaining about travel nearly killed Jay's career — and the Stanford-backed principle that shows why stopping the negativity immediately creates clarity, opportunity, and 'luck'Connect with Jay Riding Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/jayadamsriding Ecoshield: https://www.ecoshieldpest.com Billest: https://www.billestwholesale.com LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/jay-riding-b8088259/ Connect with the Show Fit2Perform | Hosted by Brad Clifford Follow, subscribe, and leave a review wherever you get your podcasts.

Built From the Rubble: Why Purpose and Peace Are Not Mutually Exclusive

Cody Jefferson has sat with people as they died. He's led 155 funerals, buried most of his family, nearly lost his own life to sepsis in 2017, and survived seasons where he didn't know if he wanted to be here. He's also built multiple companies serving over 10 million people monthly, written for Forbes and Rolling Stone, and found a peace he didn't believe he deserved — through therapy, faith, a Romanian woman named Alina who refused to be coached, and a wife he calls the greatest gift of his life. In this raw and unhurried bonfire conversation on Fit2Perform, Brad and Cody cover the social media trust recession, why we've confused dopamine with accomplishment, what it really means to transform instead of transmit your broken parts, and why purpose and peace are not mutually exclusive. No agenda. All of it real. What You'll Learn Why the social media ecosystem has created a 'trust recession' — and what it means when everyone's an expert and no one isThe difference between transforming pain and transmitting it — and why Cody's son's early tendencies became the catalyst for years of real therapy workThe 'Do you want to be well?' question from scripture — and why so many men are more comfortable with familiar pain than unfamiliar peaceHow Cody built the identity framework 'This is who I am, this is what I do' — and how it replaced behavior management with identity-level changeWhy Cody shifted from aesthetic-driven training to HRV, Zone 2 cardio, and longevity metrics — and what happened to his body and clarity when he cut 900mg of daily caffeine Connect With Cody Jefferson Official Website: https://codyjefferson.com Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/codyjefferson LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/codyjeffersonofficial/ X/Twitter: https://x.com/codyjefferson Connect with the Show Fit2Perform | Hosted by Brad Clifford Follow, subscribe, and leave a review wherever you get your podcasts.

Wall Street to Pro MMA to Fight League Founder: What It Really Takes to Be the Man in the Arena

Steve Orosco left Wall Street not because he failed — but because after work, the only thing he wanted to do was train. He went 8-1 as a pro MMA fighter on Team Alliance alongside Dominic Cruz, Michael Chandler, and Kelvin Gastelum. He founded SMASH Global, a black-tie MMA events company. He ran for Connecticut State Senate. He tore his Achilles and his ACL seven months apart, and went to the gym on a knee scooter anyway. He is 45 years old and still mixing it up. In this episode of Fit2Perform, Brad and Steve explore what really builds mental toughness, why every man needs to step into the arena, and how the days you least want to train become the days you remember most. If you've ever wondered what separates the people who rise from the people who quit — this is the conversation. What You'll Learn Why losing repetitively as a freshman wrestler built an armor that winning never could — and how that transfers directly to entrepreneurship and lifeThe 'harm's way' principle — why intentionally putting yourself in difficult environments is the single most accelerating thing you can do for growthWhy individual sports like wrestling and jiu-jitsu build something fundamentally different than team sports — and why every man needs to be in the arena at least once Connect with Steve Orosco Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/steveorosco SMASH Global: https://www.smashglobal.com LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/steveorosco/ Connect with the Show Fit2Perform | Hosted by Brad Clifford Follow, subscribe, and leave a review wherever you get your podcasts.

Pressure Is No Match for Purpose: From Broke & Broken to University Professor & Software Founder

Kenneth Scott wore number two at the University of Utah, but the story behind the number is what nobody ever heard. Growing up as primary caregiver to a mother with lupus, navigating Section 8 and food stamps, surviving two career-threatening injuries in college, and then losing both football and his mother in the same year — Kenneth's path to becoming an author, Rice University professor, and software founder is a blueprint for what happens when purpose outlasts performance. In this episode of Fit2Perform, Brad sits down with his former teammate for one of the most honest conversations the show has produced. If you've ever had to rebuild your identity from the ground up, this one is for you. What You'll Learn How Kenneth's Four Questions framework — passion, impact, skill, and financial reward — helps anyone identify their true purpose beyond performanceThe GPS Map principle: why accepting your current position without editing the coordinates is the only way to get accurate directions forwardWhat the Don't Wait to Be Chosen framework — identity → positioning → opportunity → conversion — teaches student athletes and professionals alike Connect with Kenneth + Resources Don't Wait to Be Chosen — by Kenneth Scott (available on Amazon)Kenneth Scott Official WebsiteREACH — Student Athlete Recruiting SoftwareInstagram — @KScott_2X/Twitter — @KScott_2LinkedIn Connect with the Show Fit2Perform | Hosted by Brad Clifford Follow, subscribe, and leave a review wherever you get your podcasts.

164 NHL Fights, a Dementia Diagnosis at 30 & the Breakthrough That Saved Daniel Carcillo's Life

Before he was a psilocybin advocate, Daniel Carcillo was Car Bomb — one of the NHL's most explosive enforcers, a two-time Stanley Cup champion who fought 164 times on the ice and paid for it with seven concussions and an early onset dementia diagnosis at 30. In this episode of Fit2Perform, Brad Clifford sits down with Daniel for an unflinching conversation about what high performance actually costs, how the system fails elite athletes when they stop performing, and how psilocybin-assisted therapy at his Portland service center Experience Onward is doing what pharmaceuticals, neurologists, and $300,000 in treatments couldn't. Whether you've lived the crash or you're chasing the edge, this conversation will change the way you think about brain health, identity, and what it means to truly rebuild. What You'll Learn How the culture of professional sport — specifically the code of sacrifice and will — shapes identity in ways that persist long after the game endsWhy conventional medicine failed Daniel Carcillo after retirement, and what $300,000 in treatments didn't solve that psilocybin didThe specific protocol Daniel used — diagnostics, high-dose ceremonies, microdosing washout, and retesting — that reversed his dementia-like symptomsWhat the Johns Hopkins and FDA data actually say about psilocybin for depression, PTSD, and TBI — and why a 7% vs. 50–70% success rate is one of the most underreported statistics in medicineHow Experience Onward's legal psilocybin service center in Portland structures preparation, ceremony, and integration — and why the work after is more important than the ceremony itself Connect with Daniel Carcillo: Daniel on LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/daniel-carcillo-202792106/ Experience Onward Website: https://experienceonward.com/ Connect with the Show: Brad on LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/brad-clifford-a1389431/Elevétion Website: https://elevetion.com/ Fit2Perform | Hosted by Brad Clifford Follow, subscribe, and leave a review wherever you get your podcasts.

You're Not Aging, You're Losing Capacity: The Performance Framework High Achievers Need to Hear

Most people are losing ground — physically, mentally, and relationally — and calling it aging. Brad Clifford isn't buying it. In this premiere episode of Fit2Perform, Brad draws a hard line between performance and decline, introduces his framework of capacity and capability, and lays out the five domains that will anchor every conversation on this show. As founder and CEO of Elevétion, a concierge performance medicine company, Brad has rebuilt his own physiology from the inside out — and he's built a company to do the same for high performers who refuse to fade. If you're a founder, a parent, a leader, or an athlete who takes showing up seriously, this is where your next level starts. What You'll Learn Why capacity and capability are the only two metrics that truly determine your performanceHow the five performance domains — biological, physical, cognitive, relational, and advanced therapeutics — interact and compoundWhy the modern environment is systematically eroding your physiology, and what Fit2Perform is doing about itWhat Elevétion does differently from conventional medicine, and why Brad built itWho this show is for — and who it is explicitly not for Connect with the Show: Brad on LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/brad-clifford-a1389431/Elevétion Website: https://elevetion.com/ Fit2Perform | Hosted by Brad Clifford Follow, subscribe, and leave a review wherever you get your podcasts.
