A new documentary brings The Swan back this fall, into a culture that has reversed its rules. Celebrities now name their surgeons. Patients now say their biggest fear is looking unnatural. This week the briefing reports on what changed between the reveal and the undetectable era, and rules on a claim that gets harder to check the better it works. Plus a serum where somebody counted.

    Salmon Sperm Has Reached the Drugstore. The Salmon Did Not.

    Hey! I'd love to hear your thoughts, send me a voice note. It started as a medical ingredient, became an injection, and then became a facial Jennifer Aniston had to ask about. This week a search for PDRN at Ulta returns 199 products, including a lipstick, a scalp serum and a matcha bubble tea scrub. The briefing follows the ingredient from the clinic to the shelf, finds that most of the salmon was replaced along the way (in one case by ginseng), and rules on a 109 dollar serum that defines one shot as a month of use. Plus under-eye patches, now served sliced.

This week, The Maintenance Report looks at the rise of body serums, neck treatments, elbow creams, and the industry-wide “skinification” of everything that used to get by with lotion. There is a $338 body serum developed from technology tied to cardiac regenerative medicine. There are face-care ingredients for your arms. There are now dedicated categories for the neck, chest, hands, knees, and elbows. The science is real. The products may work. The interesting part is how quickly the rest of your body became a market. Your skin was always one organ. It has just been rezoned.
