Narnia Fans Cast #53: When Is an Adaptation Not an Adaptation? | Swept Away Continues

Welcome to Narnia Fans Cast Episode #53, for September 23, 2026! This week, Evening Star asks a timely question as more details emerge about Netflix’s upcoming The Magician’s Nephew: When is an adaptation no longer an adaptation? With Greta Gerwig directing, Daniel Craig as Uncle Andrew, Meryl Streep voicing Aslan, and the story’s setting shifted forward roughly 50 years, Evening Star explores three different approaches to adapting a book for the screen, from closely reproducing the original story to capturing its spirit in a new medium or substantially reimagining it for another time and culture. Then The Bard’s Tale continues with Chapters 3–5 of Swept Away, an original Narnian adventure by John Burkitt. Trundle and Sir Joseph set sail aboard the Queen of the Sea on their mission to rescue Joseph’s wife, Fiona. Along the way, Trundle experiences the delights and digestive consequences of his first ocean voyage, while the pair encounter Orlando, an enslaved Narnian boy who is given the chance to become Sir Joseph’s squire and find his way home. But a terrifying nightmare gives Trundle his first taste of just how dangerous the journey ahead may become. Hosted by Evening Star. Swept Away by John Burkitt. Produced by NarniaFans.com. Music by Patrick Swanson and Paul Martin. Further up and further in!

Narnia Fans Cast #52: Fantastic Forests & Swept Away Begins

Welcome to Narnia Fans Cast Episode #52, for September 15, 2026! This week, Evening Star begins with the latest Narnia news before exploring “Fantastic Forests,” his latest reflection on the worlds of C.S. Lewis. Following Thresholds and The OH and AH Universe, he turns to the mysterious Wood Between the Worlds from The Magician’s Nephew, exploring this quiet nexus between worlds and what it might suggest about creation, time, and our longing for worlds beyond our own. Then The Bard’s Tale begins a brand-new Narnian adventure by John Burkitt: Swept Away. Trundle is a carpenter and badger living in Cair Paravel who dreams of ships, distant islands, and adventures beyond the familiar shores of home. A mysterious message in a bottle leads him to The Dancing Dog, where he meets Sir Joseph of Brockhurst, a Knight of Narnia whose wife, Fiona, was taken into slavery following a terrible shipwreck. Joseph is determined to cross the sea, find her, and bring her home, and he believes Aslan has sent Trundle to help him. Featuring Swept Away, Chapters 1–2, an original story by John Burkitt. Hosted by Evening Star. Podcast produced by NarniaFans.com. Music by Patrick Swanson and Paul Martin. Further up and further in!

    Narnia Fans Cast #51 | Harrod’s Bend Finale: Ripley & Rose’s Wedding

Welcome to Narnia Fans Cast Episode #51. This week, Evening Star expands on last week’s discussion of thresholds with The OH and AH Universe, comparing the vastness and technological ambition of our own universe with the smaller, warmer, more intimate world of Narnia. What have the Talking Beasts discovered that we may have forgotten? Perhaps wonder isn’t found by going farther and faster, but by slowing down long enough to recognize that the little things really are the big things. The episode then brings The Bard’s Tale and Harrod’s Bend to its conclusion with Chapters 15 through 17. Ripley Pond grows in his craft, discovers that Rose Angle’s feelings for him may be considerably more than friendship, and learns the heartbreaking truth about Aunt Violet and the life she might have shared with Bob Angle. Finally, friends and family gather at Pond Place as Ripley and Rose prepare to begin the next chapter of the Pond family together. Two hearts. One love. A red and white rose. Hosted by Evening Star. Featuring an original story by John Burkitt with voices by John and Lynne Burkitt. Podcast produced by NarniaFans.com. Music by Patrick Swanson. Narnia Fans Cast Interview Special | Eric Owyoung of Future of Forestry (2012)

Welcome to a Narnia Fans Cast Interview Special featuring Eric Owyoung of Future of Forestry, recorded in May 2012. Paul Martin of NarniaFans.com and Mark Ostley of Middle-Earth Network sit down with Eric for a wide-ranging conversation about the music of Future of Forestry, the C.S. Lewis connection behind the band’s name, and the creative philosophy that shapes his songwriting. Eric discusses how Lewis’s poem The Future of Forestry influenced the identity and direction of the band, the album Twilight, the story behind If You Find Her, faith and spirituality in music, Future of Forestry’s Christmas recordings, and the concept behind the three-part Travel series. He also explores his approach to songwriting and creativity, including why he prefers creating an experience rather than telling listeners exactly what a song should mean, and shares advice for musicians, filmmakers, and artists about working hard, continuing to create, and not becoming trapped by the pursuit of perfection. Featuring Eric Owyoung of Future of Forestry. Hosted by Paul Martin of NarniaFans.com and Mark Ostley of Middle-Earth Network. Originally conducted in May 2012 as a NarniaFans and Middle-Earth Network special and now presented as a Narnia Fans Cast Interview Special. Video by NarniaFans.com and Legendarium Media, formerly Middle-Earth Network. Music by Paul Martin and Patrick Swanson. Narnia Fans Cast #50 | Thresholds + Harrod’s Bend (Part 5)

Welcome to Narnia Fans Cast Episode #50. This week, guest host Mr. Beaver helps celebrate the 50th episode before Evening Star explores Thresholds, looking at one of fantasy’s most important devices: the passage from our world into another. From the looking glass and The Twilight Zone to Stargate and Somewhere in Time, the discussion considers what makes a portal believable before turning to two of C.S. Lewis’s most memorable examples: the wardrobe in The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe and the painting in The Voyage of the Dawn Treader. The episode then continues The Bard’s Tale with Chapters 12 through 14 of Harrod’s Bend, an original Narnian drama by John Burkitt. Ripley Pond discovers that being an otter doesn’t necessarily mean knowing how to swim, but an old beaver named Sam helps him find his place in the river. Rip also begins learning the carpenter’s trade, discovers a talent he never knew he possessed, and earns the attention of one of Harrod’s Bend’s most prominent residents. As Rip learns to swim, work, and trust himself, the inventor who once dreamed of flying begins to realize that he may have reinvented himself. Hosted by Evening Star with a special appearance by Mr. Beaver. Featuring an original story by John Burkitt with voices by John and Lynne Burkitt. Podcast produced by NarniaFans.com. Music by Patrick Swanson. For more Narnia news, articles, podcasts, and community discussions, visit NarniaFans.com.

Narnia Fans Cast #49 | A New Take on Susan Pevensie + Harrod’s Bend (Part 4)

Welcome to Narnia Fans Cast Episode #49. This week, Evening Star offers A New Take on Susan Pevensie, examining one of the most debated questions in The Chronicles of Narnia: what happened to Susan after The Last Battle? Rather than viewing her absence simply as punishment, the discussion considers Susan’s denial of Narnia, the possibility of repentance, and whether the tragedy she experiences could ultimately become a kind of “severe mercy” leading her home. The episode then continues The Bard’s Tale with Chapters 9 through 11 of Harrod’s Bend, an original Narnian drama by John Burkitt. As Ripley Pond settles into his restored home, a letter from his parents brings unexpected encouragement, an open house introduces him to more of his new neighbors, and the enthusiastic Fisher family arrives with some rather ambitious plans for his future. By evening’s end, Rip begins to realize that Harrod’s Bend may be more than a place to start over. It may finally be becoming home. Hosted by Evening Star. Featuring an original story by John Burkitt with voices by John and Lynne Burkitt. Podcast produced by NarniaFans.com. Music by Patrick Swanson.
