Bird on a Branch

Carrie Kirby

Bird on a Branch traces the roots of our mental, emotional, and metaphysical symptoms so we can heal them and rise to our fullest potential. Hosted by Carrie, a holistic health practitioner, trauma-informed coach, and founder of Vital Treasures (a nod to the Three Treasures of Traditional Chinese Medicine: mind, body, spirit), the show connects the "woo" and the science: nervous system regulation, emotional literacy, and lived experience, without clinical distance and without judgment. The show's thesis is simple: everyone carries big-T and little-T trauma, and healing starts with finding the original wound, not to relive it, but to stop bleeding it onto the people we love. The name comes from a moment during a plant medicine ceremony, and a proverb Carrie holds close: a bird on a branch during a storm trusts not the branch, but its own wings. That's the heart of every episode: learning to trust yourself so completely that even if your branch breaks, you know how to fly.

Ep 15 | Already Sick? Start Here: My Family’s Immunity Kit (Part 2)

In this episode, I’m sharing the remedies I keep on hand at home for when sickness comes through, as the second half of my family’s immunity kit. If you’ve listened to Avoid Getting Sick: My Family’s Immunity Kit (Part 1), this is where we pick up. That episode was about staying well. This one is about what I reach for once a bug has already landed, and how I support my body through it with a mind, body, and spirit approach. I’m not anti Western medicine, and I’m not telling you to skip your doctor. I’m sharing what my family does and why I believe in having options before you need them. I get specific: a nebulizer with saline, steam for coughing fits, oregano oil, olive leaf, NAC and lysine, a respiratory herbal blend, and an intro to homeopathy, including why you have to match the remedy to the type of cough. I also share how my own chronic health history shaped the way I approach sickness at home. Disclaimer: this episode is not medical advice. I’m sharing what I do for my family, not doses or personal recommendations for you. This one’s for anyone who wants to feel prepared instead of panicked when someone in the house gets sick. Being prepared isn’t paranoia. It’s knowing your options before you need them. Ep. 14 | Avoid Getting Sick: My Family's Immunity Kit (Part 1)

In this episode, I’m sharing the immune support list my family and I use every day going into fall and winter, so you can walk into cold and flu season feeling prepared instead of scared. If you’ve listened to my episode on the dangers of fake wellness culture, you know I never want you blindly following a supplement routine because someone online swears by it. This isn’t that. It’s a look at what I actually use and why. The body already knows what to do, but with depleted soil, toxins in our water, food, and air, and the gaps in how most of us eat, it needs real support. I also explain why I lean toward liquid and liposomal forms over pills for absorption, and why so much of your immune system lives in your gut. I get specific. I also talk about why babies born by C section need gut support early, and I share a little of my own history of being on antibiotics for over ten years as a child. Disclaimer: this episode is not medical advice. I’m sharing what my family uses, not doses or personal recommendations. This one’s for anyone who’s tired of feeling at the mercy of every bug that comes through the house. Supporting your immune system isn’t about fear. It’s about giving your body what it needs to do what it already knows how to do. Ep. 13 | Here's Why That Wellness Advice Might Be Hurting You

In this episode, I'm answering your questions in a new series I'm calling "Ask Me Anything, Tell Me Tuesday", starting with the dangers of fake wellness culture and what to actually do when anxiety shows up as a tight chest. If you've listened to my episode on the nervous system reset, you already know breath work is always my first answer. Here I go deeper into why: the supplement and wellness influencer space is largely unregulated, and bioindividuality means there is no single supplement, routine, or protocol that works for everyone, no matter how convincing the testimonial sounds. I also break down why anxiety itself is often less about the present moment and more about living too far into an uncertain future. I get specific on both fronts. On wellness culture, I walk through why trusting your own body and doing your own research matters more than trusting a paid partnership, and why something as simple as adrenal support supplements can genuinely backfire if you don't know your own baseline. On anxiety, I share the exact tools I give my own clients: breath work first, personalized mantras second, sticky notes around the house for subconscious reprogramming, and a five minute grounding practice first thing in the morning before you ever touch your phone. This one's for anyone who's ever taken wellness advice from someone online without asking if it was actually meant for their body, and for anyone who's been calling every hard feeling "anxiety" without learning what's really underneath it. Trusting yourself isn't a vibe. It's a practice, and it's one you can start building today. Ep. 11 | Your Child's Soul Chose You

In this episode, I'm sharing my experience with what I call the spirit baby realm: the very real, very active space where the souls of children choose the parents they're meant to come to, sometimes years before those parents even know it. If you've listened to my episode on relationships and soul contracts, you already know I believe nothing about who comes into our lives is random. This goes deeper. I walk you through how that same soul contract framework extends to conception itself, and how my own intuitive gifts, claircognizance (knowing), clairvoyance (seeing), and claircentience (feeling), have let me sense spirit babies choosing their parents, sometimes before the parents themselves are aware. I get specific: the eight year knowing I carried before my youngest came through, texting a friend about a pregnancy she hadn't announced yet, and the times my own kids have casually referenced their "last life" and the family they had before this one. I also share how understanding this realm brought me peace around my own pregnancy loss, and I offer a simple invitation: stillness, breathwork, and meditation as ways to start tapping into this yourself. Trigger warning: this episode includes references to pregnancy loss and fertility struggles. This isn't about predicting the future. It's about trusting that nothing, including the timing of who's meant to come into your life, is random. Ep. 09 | The Formula for Chronic Illness

In this episode, I'm getting into something that's been sensitive for me to share: a belief I formed as a little girl that I was only loved when I was sick. I walk through where that belief actually came from (sustained abuse from a sibling that started when I was ten or eleven and went on through high school), and the fact that when I reached out for help, I wasn't believed. I talk about how that landed in my body as shame, how it showed up in destructive behavior as a teenager, and how, strangely, being sick became the one place I still felt my mother's nurturing love without feeling like a burden. From there I get into the bigger pattern I see in my clients and in myself: how unresolved trauma doesn't just disappear, it sits in the body until it's released, and how that can show up as chronic illness, autoimmune flares, disordered eating, or a strained relationship with your body. I don't believe your body is just breaking down for no reason. I believe it's trying to tell you something. Trigger warning: this episode includes disclosure of childhood abuse, bullying, and teenage substance use. This one's for anyone who's ever been told their body is just "being difficult," and who's never stopped to ask what it might actually be trying to say.
