The great divergence: income, sectors and active management with Damian Collins from Westbridge Funds Management

In commercial property, the outcome of an asset is shaped long after the purchase. Damian Collins, Chairman of Westbridge Funds Management, explains why active management is never set and forget, drawing on examples where extending leases, funding targeted works, adding rentable space and engaging early with departing tenants have lifted returns for investors. He reflects on a year in which medical and industrial property led the way, considers why industrial's outsized gains may now moderate, and describes how a national sourcing network gives Westbridge an edge in a market still built on relationships. Looking ahead, he expects more buying opportunities as assets from the 2021 boom reach their natural realisation windows.

Deep value in the AI shadow with Rakesh Bordia from Pzena Investment Management

Rakesh Bordia of Pzena Investment Management sets out the discipline behind deep value investing, and the judgement at its centre, distinguishing a sound business trading cheaply because of a temporary problem from one that is cheap for a permanent reason. He argues that index diversification in emerging markets has become partly illusory, with Taiwan, Korea and parts of China now behaving as a single correlated exposure to global spending on artificial intelligence. On the same reasoning, companies written off as casualties of that technology are frequently mispriced rather than impaired, a point he illustrates through the technology services sector.

Darwin, defence and the new industrial asset with Laurence Parisi from Trilogy Funds

Laurence Parisi, head of direct property at Trilogy Funds, joins James Dunn to trace industrial property's move from plain sheds to technology-rich logistics infrastructure. The conversation covers the themes that have widened the opportunity set for income-focused investors, from e-commerce and automation through to defence spending, energy and the power and connectivity a modern tenant expects a building to carry over the life of its lease.

Value traps and income conviction with Andrew Hamilton from Antares Capital

Australian investors tend to underestimate the role dividends play in long-term returns. Antares Capital's Andrew Hamilton has spent more than two decades building income strategies around them. In this episode, Hamilton lays out why a rising yield is sometimes a warning sign rather than a buying opportunity, how franking credits transform the real value of equity income, and what keeps a concentrated income portfolio robust through market cycles. The conversation also covers the balance between durable income today and growth for tomorrow, and why the fundamentals of dividend investing have not changed across three decades.

The illusion of diversification with Alison Savas from Orbis Investments

Many investors believe exposure to several managers makes them diversified. Orbis Investments' Alison Savas argues the reality is less comfortable. In this episode, Savas explains how passive investing has hardwired yesterday's winners into tomorrow's portfolios, why concentration in global equity indices is at 30-year highs, and why great businesses do not always make great investments. The conversation also covers where Orbis finds value in unloved corners of healthcare and software, the rotation already underway in AI-related names, and how advisers can add genuine diversification to a portfolio without leaving listed equities.   This podcast is for education and entertainment purposes, and is intended for industry professionals, financial advisers and wholesale investors. This podcast is not advice or a recommendation to buy or sell any security or to adopt any investment strategy. It has not taken into account any person’s financial circumstances, needs, or objectives. You should consider if it is relevant to your needs and read the relevant Product Disclosure Statement and Target Market Determination. Past performance is not a reliable indicator of future performance. This podcast represents Orbis' view at a point in time and provides reasoning on why Orbis has bought or sold a particular security for its funds. Orbis may take the opposite view from that stated, as facts or circumstances may change. This does not prohibit the Orbis funds from dealing in the securities before or after this is published.

Innovation and the future of HNW advice with Denis Orrock from Praemium

Returns are no longer what keeps HNW clients loyal. Praemium research shows 36 per cent of wealthy investors rank trust above everything else, and the gap between what advisers think they are being evaluated on and what clients actually decide on is wider than most practices realise. Praemium's Denis Orrock explores why a narrowly defined value proposition is losing clients to self-direction, why around 75 per cent of inheritors do not retain their parents' adviser, and what Praemium's acquisition of machine learning company Technotia says about where the HNW platform of the future is heading.

AI, momentum and small cap winners with Katie Hudson from Yarra Capital Management

Australian small caps are being reshaped by artificial intelligence, higher interest rates and a sharp reassessment of growth companies. For long-term investors, that disruption may be creating opportunities as well as risk. Yarra Capital Management’s Katie Hudson examines where AI-related returns could emerge in the Australian market, why momentum can distort short-term valuations, and what the recent growth sell-off means for active investors. The discussion also explores how an experienced small-cap team separates structural winners from market noise, and why fundamental research matters when economic conditions, tax settings and investor expectations are all changing at once.

Longevity, philosophy and the small cap edge with Tobias Bucks from Ausbil Investment Management

Ausbil Investment Management's Tobias Bucks brings charm, original thinking and an unusual lens to global small cap investing, with a fascination for what longevity means across retirement, healthcare and markets. In this episode, Bucks talks about the opportunities arising from ageing populations, including hospice care and skilled nursing, and how AI is compressing timelines in drug development. He explains his process for finding niche leaders with high gross margins and positive earnings revisions in the $1 billion to $15 billion range, a space where the market is inefficient enough for active managers to make a real difference.
