    Does Authenticity Matter Anymore?

    Imagine you are scrolling through social media and you come across a reel of someone making a political argument. They’re sitting in front of a microphone, speaking confidently. Their voice sounds real. Their face looks real.  But there’s one problem. The person doesn’t actually exist. The entire video was AI-generated. AI can now create pictures of events that never happened, podcasts hosted by people who don’t exist, and writing that sounds like it came from a real person. We’ve all heard the saying, “seeing is believing.” But when something artificial can look and sound just as convincing as the real thing, how much can we trust what we see? And even when we know something was created by AI, does it matter how it was made?     Who Decides What Everyone Is Talking About?

    Why does it sometimes feel like everyone online is suddenly talking about the same thing? We've always taken cues from the crowd. Social media changes the size of that crowd, and algorithms now help decide which parts of it we see. A trend, opinion, or idea can suddenly seem like it's everywhere simply because the system keeps putting it in front of us. And if people understand what the algorithm rewards, they can sometimes give a message an extra push. So when something suddenly seems to be everywhere, are we seeing what people genuinely care about, or what the algorithm has decided to keep showing us? In this episode of Dad Think, I explore how social media algorithms are changing an old form of peer pressure, and why thinking for ourselves now means asking how the crowd got in front of us in the first place.     Have We Become Too Dependent on Technology?

    Have we become too dependent on technology? It's easy to take for granted how much technology does for us every day. Our phones remember our contacts. GPS tells us where to go. Google can find almost anything we need to know. As a result, we rely less on remembering and more on retrieving. And now AI can help us understand information, work through problems, and even come up with answers for us. There’s no doubt about it: modern technology makes our lives easier. But if technology can always give us the answer, what’s our incentive to work things out for ourselves? And if we stop practicing that, do we eventually lose the ability to think critically?     What Can Life Before the Feed Teach Us About Raising Kids?

    What can life before the feed teach us about raising kids today? I sometimes wonder what it would be like if my kids could experience the world I grew up in. There was something about growing up in the 90s and early 2000s that I don’t think we fully appreciate anymore.  There were natural stopping points.  There were long stretches of boredom.  And there wasn’t always something demanding your attention. My kids are growing up in a very different world, one that is being shaped by artificial intelligence, smartphones, social media, and other technologies that didn’t exist when I was their age.  Technology is changing how we work, communicate, spend our free time, and even how we think. As parents, what can we learn from the world before the feed that might help us raise kids in the world after it? In this first episode of Dad Think, I explore the differences between the childhood I experienced and the one my kids are growing up in, and the lessons we can learn from life before the feed.
