The Power of Environment | Episode 4

Seventy people went down into Egypt. Two million came out. Within weeks of the sea opening, they asked for a golden calf - the bull Egypt had worshipped on every public wall for four hundred years. That is what sustained exposure does. It teaches things a miracle cannot unteach in a week. This episode traces what Kenny calls the biblical blueprint. God does not simply tell His people about their surroundings. He moves them through them. Adam in a garden, then in thorns. Abraham called out of Ur. Moses in Pharaoh’s court, then the wilderness. Daniel carried from Jerusalem to Babylon. The setting was never the backdrop. It was the method. What you will take from this episode: * Why God could have carried Israel instantly from Egypt to Canaan but chose not to — because formation takes time, and new soil was needed to produce new fruit * How Daniel held one non-negotiable in Babylon when he could not change his name, his education or his company — and was still praying toward Jerusalem decades later * A single exercise for this week: name the one thing you will hold, as Daniel held his, in the place pressing hardest on you The book goes considerably further than one episode can. The Power of Environment | Episode 3

Most of us hear that we were shaped by our surroundings and we hear an insult. It sounds like someone is telling us we are less free than we thought, less our own work, less entitled to whatever credit the good in us has earned. This chapter takes that threat and turns it round. Being formed by your environment is not a design flaw. It is the method God chose. He made the human soul porous on purpose, and once you see that, the humbling becomes the only solid ground of hope you have — because a creature that could be shaped by poor soil is, by that very same design, a creature that can be shaped by good soil. What you will take from this episode: * Why Kenny’s own formation in a mission house shows that faith is absorbed like air, not taught like a syllabus, and what Deuteronomy 6 actually asks for * How the same porousness that let the wrong things in is the capacity that makes you reachable by the right things now * A single exercise for this week: name one conviction you have always called your own, then trace it back to the room where you first breathed it For the listener braced for a verdict: a hard environment may have formed you. It does not get to keep you. Paperback: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/1066748500 Kindle: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0H5TD8YWV Website: https://kennyolutola.com This is a public episode. The Power of Environment | Episode 2

Two seeds rest in a gardener’s hand. Identical under any microscope. He presses one into deep cultivated soil. He drops the other onto hot concrete. Years later one of them towers over the garden. The other never became anything at all. Most of us explain a life by what is inside it — talent, discipline, grit. We credit ourselves when things go well and blame circumstances when they do not. The two seeds will not let that stand. Nothing was missing from the second seed. What it did not have was ground. This episode traces what Kenny calls the invisible force. It begins with a garden God planted before He gave a single command, moves through Jesus putting the harvest in the soil rather than the seed, and closes on a question I will not answer for you. What you will take from this episode: * Why the first recorded act of God toward humanity was not an instruction but the making of an environment, and what that means for how we cooperate with Him * How Kenny’s own story - the same mind written off in one place, completing two master’s degrees in another - proves the chapter’s claim in a single life * A single exercise for this week: name one thing you have credited to your own effort, then name the soil that made it possible, and say both out loud The book goes considerably further than one episode can. The Power of Environment | Episode 1

You have said the word a thousand times. You have almost certainly never meant by it what it actually means. Ask most people what environment means and they point to a neighbourhood, a city, the weather, trees. That is not wrong. It is simply far too small. Environment does not name one thing. It names five, and they are all working on you at once: physical, social, emotional, spiritual and digital. This first episode walks through one ordinary morning and catches all five at work before you reach the front door. It is not a guilt trip. As Kenny puts it in the book: to see what has formed you is not to assign blame, not to others for the soil they made, and not to yourself for the soil you tolerated. It is the beginning of freedom. What you will take from this episode: - Why the five environments overlap and work simultaneously, and why noticing that changes what you can do about any of them - What Paul was actually warning about in 1 Corinthians 15:33 - proximity and company, not bad doctrine - and why he calls it deception - A single exercise for this week: walk one ordinary morning slowly and name all five before you leave the house. Fix nothing yet. Just look. The episode closes on a question I am not going to answer for you. The Power of Environment goes considerably further than one episode can.
