Coffee, Tea & Consciousness

Melodie & Anne

This spiritual awakening podcast, hosted by lifelong friends Anne and Mel, Coffee Tea & Consciousness is a candid, unfiltered look at healing, awakening, and the messy work of trying to live consciously in a very unconscious world. After each having their own spiritual awakenings around 2010, Anne and Mel have spent over two decades navigating healing, childhood wounds, past-life discoveries, soul contracts, signs from spirit, dowsing rods, psychic communication and the everyday chaos of being human while trying to stay awake to it all. Equal parts spiritual exploration and real talk, the show digs into how beliefs - many rooted in childhood - quietly shape (and limit) our lives, how awakening reshapes relationships and identity, and how to hold space for both the mystical and the mundane. Expect funny, honest, occasionally sweary conversations about guides, grief, energy, motherhood, religion, and the strange, hilarious ways Spirit shows up (blind rescue cats included). This isn't a polished, one-size-fits-all guide to enlightenment - it's two friends figuring it out in real time, sharing what worked, what hasn't, and what still doesn't make sense. New episodes explore structured spiritual topics alongside loose in-the-moment life conversations, with the goal of building a community for anyone else doing this work - especially those who feel like they're doing it alone.

    Heard!

This week Anne brings a simple observation to the table: she's been reacting to conflict — especially with her husband Tony and her family — differently than her old normal. Less blowing up, more pausing. Less "get it out at them," more "get it out, then come back calm." She and Mel spend the episode unpacking what actually shifted underneath that behavior change. They talk through a Kabbalah teaching about pausing before confrontation, the difference between coming at something calm "for the other person" versus calm "for you," and how a moment of clarity — realizing the real issue was never being heard — can take twenty-plus years to surface. Mel shares her own parallel journey with money and guilt: a lifelong pattern of feeling guilty over every dollar spent, traced back not to anything her mom did directly, but to what other people said about her mom. They dig into inherited beliefs around productivity and rest (why some people can't just lie down without feeling like they're wasting the day), how kids pick up beliefs their parents never actually taught them, and why surrender — letting timing do its thing instead of pushing — might be the hardest lesson either of them has had to learn. It's a wandering, honest conversation about the slow work of noticing your own patterns, and what happens in your outer world once your inner world actually shifts. Loving the Skeptic: When Your Partner Isn't Awakening With You

This episode is a direct continuation of the previous recording — Mel and Anne pick up right where they left off, diving into a topic Anne teed up earlier: what it's actually like to go through a spiritual awakening when your husband isn't having the same experience. Both hosts share the wild, chaotic, sometimes funny stories from the height of their awakenings — Mel seeing energy everywhere and showing up at a stranger's house because she felt she had a message to deliver; Anne getting shut down in a group therapy session for going against the grain; both of them getting swept up in manifestation, self-centeredness, and believing every coincidence was a sign meant just for them (the cruise scam mail, the orange bike, the box of quarters in the van). They talk candidly about their husbands, Jimmy and Tony — both logical, grounded, non-spiritual men who reacted very differently to their wives' transformations, and how each couple has had to find a way to communicate across that gap. Mel shares her practice of waiting until "the door is open" before sharing an intuitive nudge, and two striking stories where her hunches (a tree crashing through a window, something happening with a father-in-law) played out exactly as felt. Anne opens up about a rough year with Tony marked by long stretches of silence, feeling blamed for being "the bitch," and slowly learning to stop pushing her beliefs onto him. A major thread of the episode is the discovery of each husband's "life purpose" through energy readings — Jimmy's is stability, Tony's is work — and how understanding that reframed years of frustration into appreciation. The episode closes with a lighter, very funny stretch: Jimmy's total contentment and ability to "meditate" just by living life, Tony's old Mountain Dew cap step-counter obsession, honeymoon stories, and the running joke of Jimmy's "VD" (verbal diarrhea) hand signal when Mel gets going. Tone: candid, unfiltered, heavy profanity throughout, lots of laughter. Use the long description above internally for editing reference; the short description is what goes out publicly. Manifest Your Life: You Can't Rush Right Timing (Even When You're Losing Your Mind)

What happens when the thing you want so badly just... won't come? In this episode, Mel and Anne dig into the messy, unglamorous middle of manifestation — the part nobody puts on a vision board. Mel shares the story of a friend who finally found "his person" only after he stopped clinging to wanting one, and unpacks her own complicated history with the "manifest your reality" world: the guilt she carried around money, the shame she felt when abundance didn't show up the way it was "supposed to," and the moment she finally let herself feel raw, uncomfortable envy over a missed family cruise. From there, the conversation moves through soul blueprints and "treasure," the difference between things that matter and things that don't, and why some souls come in simply to be average or easeful — not to strive. Anne opens up about a stretch where she and Mel barely spoke, and how that disconnection turned out to be its own kind of right timing. They talk candidly about burnout, proving your worth through overwork, learning to rest without guilt, and why Mel thinks Spirit should really offer a paid leave plan for spiritual breakdowns. It's funny, sweary, and honest — two friends thinking out loud about surrender, self-worth, and trusting that the timeline you're on might be exactly the one you need. In this episode: Why letting go of a desire can create room for it to arriveMel's story of hidden envy over a canceled family cruiseThe difference between "never, never, never always" and the things that actually matterSoul blueprints, treasure, and why not everyone came here to striveBurnout, self-worth, and the guilt of restingAnne's husband's health crisis and finding the courage to ask for helpWhy "right timing" is a better compass than patienceContent note: This episode contains frequent strong language and is marked explicit. Topics include grief, envy, job loss, financial stress, and a brief mention of a family health crisis (kidney transplant search). Nothing here is medical, financial, or professional advice — just two friends processing out loud. Reading Your Body's Wake-Up Calls: Some Physical Signs of Spiritual Awakening

Anne and Mel get into the physical side of spiritual awakening — the stuff that doesn't show up on a scan. Anne shares an experience where both her ears would ring and go out at the same time, something an ENT told her was medically "unheard of" since the ears aren't connected — and how that confirmed for her it wasn't a hearing problem. Mel talks about years of debilitating cluster headaches that put her in bed for days, a strange head-pressure sensation early in her awakening she's never found an explanation for online, and a memorable moment at a Sam's Club where she was overwhelmed by financial panic that turned out to belong to a stranger standing near her at the gas pump. They talk about learning to ask "is this mine?" when a feeling, pain, or sensation shows up out of nowhere, and about the difference between things that need a doctor and things that are asking to be noticed a different way. Mel opens up about a pattern of physical breakdowns — her back, her shoulder, a bruised rib — tied to ignoring a clear "no" and pushing through anyway to be helpful, and connects it to a lifelong belief that her worth was tied to how hard she worked. Anne shares her own version of that pattern around housework and caretaking, and the two talk about rediscovering themselves through what's sometimes dismissed as a "midlife crisis." Throughout, they're upfront that they aren't medical professionals and that physical symptoms should absolutely be checked out — but they also make the case for staying curious about what else a symptom might be pointing to. Heads up: This episode includes discussion of chronic pain, medical conditions (thyroid disease, depression/anxiety, cluster headaches), and strong language throughout. Not medical advice — Anne and Mel are explicit that physical symptoms warrant real medical care. Beliefs 101: Ones Known (and Unknown) Run Your Life

This week, Anne and Mel are talking beliefs — where they come from, how they quietly shape our lives, and why recognizing one doesn't mean it just floats away. Anne opens up about growing up as a sensitive, latchkey kid whose emotions weren't really acknowledged at home, and how that built a wall around her heart that she's only recently started to take down — with a lot of tears along the way. Mel shares a belief she didn't even know she was carrying: a single offhand comment her grandmother made while watching Dirty Dancing decades ago, which quietly convinced her that being "too much" or "too fun" meant she couldn't be taken seriously. They talk about the difference between beliefs that get planted intentionally and the ones that sneak in sideways — from a parent's passing remark, a childhood role in the family, or years in a strict religious upbringing. Mel opens up about a hard phone call with a fellow energy reader that triggered her old "don't get too big for your britches" belief, and Anne shares a very relatable DMV story about assumption, shame, and the stories we make up about other people's judgment. By the end, they land on something both freeing and humbling: awareness is only step one. Untangling a belief — really loosening its grip — takes time, noticing, conversation (sometimes out loud, to yourself, cursing included), and a whole lot of grace. Heads up: This episode includes frank discussion of childhood emotional neglect, religious upbringing, and strong language throughout. Soul Purpose

Soul PurposeCoffee, Tea & Consciousness Fair warning: this episode touches on themes some listeners may find heavy, including pregnancy loss and chronic pain, discussed in the context of past-life and soul-purpose beliefs. Everyone comes in with a blueprint — a reason you chose to be here this time around. Anne and Mel dig into "soul purpose": what it actually is, how they stumbled into reading it for themselves and others (dowsing rods, energy readings, and a lot of trial and error), and why it almost never has anything to do with your career. They walk through real readings they've done over the years — purpose as adventure, as stability, as bringing joy, as choosing, as simply learning to be mediocre and letting yourself off the hook — plus the harder ones, like a purpose built around enduring pain. Along the way: how their own purposes (using her voice as a disruptor, and being "the light") have shown up in daily life, why knowing your purpose doesn't make life easier, and why spirit keeps handing you the same lesson until you finally learn it. Grab your coffee (or tea) — this one's honest, a little unfiltered, and full of the kind of clarity that only comes in hindsight. In this episode: What a "soul purpose" is and how it differs from career or achievementHow Anne and Mel started reading energy and past lives for themselves and othersReal examples of purpose: adventure, stability, joy, choice, mediocrity, and painWhy awareness of your purpose adds a piece to the puzzle — without making things easierSpirit's habit of handing you the same opportunity until you finally take itFair warning: this episode touches on themes some listeners may find heavy, including pregnancy loss and chronic pain, discussed in the context of past-life and soul-purpose beliefs.
