Episode 10: I don’t want someone else’s version of success anymore

Episode 10: I Don’t Want Someone Else’s Version of Success Anymore What happens when the life you’ve worked so hard to build is one you’re genuinely proud of, but you start questioning whether your definition of success has been influenced by everyone else’s expectations? As she prepares to turn 42 and begins a new chapter in her legal career, Stephany D. Mitchell is rethinking what success, ambition, and alignment mean to her. In this episode of The Empowered Exhale, Stephany reflects on growing up as the responsible, rule-following “good girl,” the pressure to follow traditional milestones, and how easily outside expectations can shape the goals we pursue. She also opens up about an important realization: she doesn’t have to choose between the corporate career she loves and the coaching business she’s passionate about building. Through personal reflections and insights from her coaching work, Stephany explores what it looks like to release comparison, question the expectations we’ve internalized, and make decisions rooted in our own values, priorities, and faith. This episode is an invitation to rethink what success looks like—not by dismissing everything you’ve accomplished, but by giving yourself permission to decide what you genuinely want next. Because success doesn’t have to look like anyone else’s to be meaningful. 🎧 Tune in for an honest conversation about ambition, identity, trusting yourself, and creating a life that feels like your own. EPISODE 9: LIFE LATELY: BIG DECISIONS, HARD LESSONS & CHOOSING WHO I WANT TO BE

Episode 9: Life Lately: Big Decisions, Hard Lessons & Choosing Who I Want to Be Life has been LIFE-ing lately, and Stephany has some big news to share! In this episode of The Empowered Exhale, Stephany D. Mitchell gets personal about a major career decision, closing a chapter after four and a half years, and preparing for a new opportunity after nearly two decades as a paralegal. But this episode is about so much more than changing jobs. Stephany opens up about the anxiety that comes with uncertainty, the discomfort of disappointing others, and the unexpected moments that challenged her patience, boundaries, and integrity. She shares what this season has taught her about trusting herself, honoring her values, and remembering that someone else's behavior doesn't have to determine how she chooses to show up. Blending real-life experiences with insights from her work as a Life & Success Coach, Clinical Hypnotherapist, and Somatic Practitioner, Stephany explores how subconscious beliefs, internal narratives, and emotional responses influence our decisions. She also guides listeners through a simple somatic awareness exercise to reconnect with themselves in the middle of life's chaos. In this episode, Stephany explores: Making big decisions without having all the answers. Why someone else's disappointment doesn't mean you've done something wrong.Choosing integrity even when you're frustrated. The difference between being dependable and carrying everyone else's responsibilities. Why emotional regulation doesn't mean never getting angry. How NLP, somatic awareness, and hypnotherapy can support self-trust and meaningful change. Why gratitude and the desire for something new can coexist. At its heart, this episode is a reminder that growth doesn't always look like a dramatic transformation. Sometimes it looks like recognizing an old pattern, responding differently, setting a boundary, or trusting yourself enough to choose a new direction. Because you can be grateful for where you've been and still be ready for where you're going. Ready to explore the beliefs and patterns keeping you stuck? Episode 8: Wait… We’re the Adults Now?

At what point did we become the adults? The ones making the decisions, building careers, navigating marriages and relationships, caring for other people, figuring out money, questioning what comes next… while occasionally still wondering who exactly put us in charge? In this episode of The Empowered Exhale, Stephany gets into the weird, funny, complicated middle that is life in your 40s. It’s a season where people the exact same age can be living completely different lives. Some are having babies while others are becoming empty nesters. Some are getting married, getting divorced, starting over, changing careers, building businesses, caring for aging parents, or quietly wondering whether the life they worked so hard to create still fits. And somewhere along the way, the old checklist for adulthood just kind of… ends. So what happens next? Stephany explores the difference between being in crisis and simply being willing to question your life. She talks about reevaluating what gets your time and energy, allowing yourself to want something different even when nothing is technically “wrong,” and grieving the versions of life that never happened while still genuinely loving the life you have. She also shares a simple reflection to help listeners step away from accomplishments, titles, timelines, and expectations and instead ask what they actually want their ordinary lives to feel like. Because maybe self-trust isn’t knowing exactly what you’re doing. Maybe it’s trusting yourself even when you don’t. In this episode: The hilariously strange realization that somehow… we’re the adults nowWhy the 40s can feel like one giant in-between seasonHow wildly different life can look for people at the same ageQuestioning your life without assuming something must be wrongThe quieter grief of roads not taken and versions of yourself you thought you’d becomeThe difference between certainty and self-trustWhy awareness doesn’t require immediate actionLetting yourself reconsider what stays, what changes, and where your energy belongsCreating a next chapter that doesn’t just look good from the outside—but actually feels like yoursStephany isn’t offering a blueprint for midlife. She doesn’t have one. Apparently nobody gave her the adult manual either. 😂 Instead, this episode is an invitation to stop demanding that you have the next ten years figured out and get curious about one much simpler question: What feels true for you now? Because apparently we’re the adults now. But we’re still becoming, too. Ep 7: Can We Stop Making Everything A Healing Journey

In this episode of The Empowered Exhale, Stephany talks about the pressure to turn every emotion, reaction, hard day, and uncomfortable experience into something that needs to be healed, analyzed, or fixed. As a coach, clinical hypnotherapist, somatic practitioner, and someone deeply committed to her own healing, Stephany believes in doing the work. But she also believes there’s a difference between self-awareness and constantly searching yourself for the next thing that’s wrong. She explores how personal development can quietly become another form of perfectionism, why not every emotion needs an origin story, and how we can learn to recognize when something deserves deeper attention—and when we’re simply having a very human response to life. This conversation is a reminder that healing was never supposed to become another destination we have to reach before we’re allowed to enjoy our lives. Sometimes there’s something worth exploring. Sometimes you’re just annoyed. And sometimes you just had a s****y Tuesday. 😂 Because you are not a project, your life is not a waiting room, and maybe today there’s nothing to fix. Maybe today, we just live. Episode 6: Things I have Completely Changed My Mind About

In this episode of The Empowered Exhale, Stephany is talking about the things she once believed with her whole heart…and has completely changed her mind about. From marriage and motherhood to success, friendship, getting older, and what a “good life” is supposed to look like, Stephany reflects on how much our beliefs can shift when we actually live a little more life. She shares how her younger self viewed marriage as the ultimate happily-ever-after, assumed motherhood would naturally be part of her story, measured success by titles and milestones, believed friendship meant forever, and dreaded the idea of getting older. At 41, many of those beliefs look very different. This is a conversation about letting go of the rules we inherited, making peace with lives that look different than we imagined, and realizing that changing your mind doesn’t mean you were wrong, it might simply mean you’ve lived, learned, and become someone with new information. In this episode, Stephany talks about: How her beliefs about marriage, independence, and “forever” have evolvedMaking peace with a life without children while still honoring the life she once imaginedRedefining success beyond titles, money, and checking all the boxesWhy history doesn’t automatically mean someone gets unlimited access to youFriendship, changing relationships, and allowing people to grow apart without making someone the villainWhy getting older feels completely different at 41 than she imagined it wouldLetting go of old beauty standards and becoming more comfortable in her own skinGiving yourself permission to question beliefs that no longer fit the person you are todayBecause maybe changing your mind isn’t proof that you didn’t know yourself. Maybe it’s proof that you’ve lived. And you don’t owe an old version of yourself a life she chose before she had all the information you have now. Ep 5: I thought I fit in everywhere… until I realized I didn’t know who I was

I Thought I Fit In Everywhere… Until I Realized I Didn't Know Who I Was In this episode of The Empowered Exhale, Stephany talks about the difference between fitting in and truly belonging, and the realization that being able to adapt to almost any room wasn’t always the strength she thought it was. She shares her experience with people-pleasing, shape-shifting, reading the room, and unconsciously adjusting parts of herself to feel accepted, loved, and safe. She explores what happens when you spend years becoming who you think other people need you to be—and eventually have to ask: Who am I when I’m not trying to be loved? Stephany also talks about learning to reconnect with the parts of herself she once believed were “too much,” letting people be disappointed without immediately abandoning herself, and recognizing that not every person, friendship, relationship, or room is meant for us. In this episode: Fitting in vs. actually belongingHow people-pleasing and shape-shifting can become automaticThe fear of rejection, disappointment, and being misunderstoodLosing yourself while trying to maintain connectionLearning who you are outside of your roles and relationshipsWhy boundaries can feel so uncomfortableAllowing yourself to be fully seen—even when everyone doesn’t like itChoosing self-trust over constantly looking outside yourself for approvalA question to sit with this week: Who are you when you’re not trying to be loved? Episode 4: Can we talk about female friendships?

Episode 4: Can We Talk About Female Friendships? Female friendship can be one of the safest, funniest, most beautiful kinds of love we experience. And it can also break your heart. In this episode of The Empowered Exhale, Stephany gets real about the complicated, tender, messy parts of adult female friendship, the parts we don’t always say out loud. We’re talking about friendship breakups, being left out, feeling like you’re always the one reaching out, jealousy, reciprocity, different communication needs, and what happens when years of history no longer mean a relationship still feels good. Stephany also shares her own experience of ending two friendships that were nearly twenty years old, and the grief, clarity, and hard truths that came with realizing that loving someone and having history with them doesn’t always mean they’re meant to stay in your life forever. This conversation isn’t about labeling people toxic or cutting everyone off. It’s about learning to look honestly at the relationships in your life while also being willing to look at yourself. Because friendship asks for grace, reciprocity, honesty, boundaries, and sometimes the courage to let go. In this episode, we talk about: Why friendship heartbreak deserves to be acknowledgedThe difference between someone knowing your history and truly knowing youWhen longevity gets confused with intimacyWhat reciprocity can actually look like in real friendshipsJealousy and why it doesn’t automatically make you a bad friendBeing left out and the very human desire to feel chosenDifferent friendship communication styles and expectationsGiving grace without doing all the emotional laborGrieving friendships you chose to leaveAllowing yourself and the women you love permission to evolveBecoming the kind of friend you’re hoping to findStephany leaves you with two questions: What kind of friendship am I craving in this season of my life? And… Am I willing to be that kind of friend, too? If this episode made you think of one of your girls, send it to her. Episode 3: When the Plan Changes: What Consistency Actually Looks Like

What happens when you’re finally keeping the promises you made to yourself…and then life changes the plan? This week, a calf injury brought my 21-day movement challenge to an unexpected halt and almost immediately, I noticed the old all-or-nothing thoughts creeping back in. But maybe consistency was never about maintaining the perfect streak. In this episode, I’m talking about what it looks like to adjust without abandoning yourself, why you might not actually need to “start over,” and the deeper promise underneath the plans we make for ourselves. I also get curious about the emotional and spiritual symbolism this injury brought up for me, especially around forward movement, doing, control, rest, and surrender, while sharing this experience from right here in the messy middle. Because maybe consistency isn’t doing the same thing every day no matter what happens. Maybe it’s continuing to choose yourself, even when the way you choose yourself has to change. In this episode: Keeping promises to yourself when life interrupts the planThe difference between consistency and rigidityWhy adjusting doesn’t mean quittingLetting go of the need to constantly “start over”Self-trust, rest, receiving, and surrenderThe emotional and spiritual reflections my calf injury brought upStaying connected to yourself in the messy middle🎧 Press play, take what you need, and give yourself permission to let today count...even if it looks different than you planned. Episode 2: The Woman I was at 25

Episode 2: The Woman I Was at 25 What would you say if you could sit across from a younger version of yourself and have coffee with her? At 25, I thought I was behind. I thought I should have been building the career I imagined, figuring out love, and becoming the woman I thought I was supposed to be. Instead, I was in a toxic relationship. I was depressed, anxious, drinking, numbing, and trying to function while quietly feeling completely lost. And for a long time, I judged that version of me. Why did she stay? Why did she make those choices? Why didn't she know better? But healing has taught me something very different: You were never supposed to know then what you know now. In this episode of The Empowered Exhale, we're having an honest conversation about the women we used to be—and what changes when we stop looking at them through the lens of shame and start looking at them with compassion. We're talking about: Feeling "behind" because your life doesn't look the way you thought it would by nowThe ways we numb, overwork, overthink, stay busy, and leave ourselves when feeling becomes uncomfortableWhy knowing something isn't healthy doesn't always mean you're ready to leave itThe difference between understanding what happened to you and allowing it to define the rest of your lifeTaking accountability for the ways you've hurt others without making shame your permanent identityWhy familiar doesn't always mean safeLearning to make one different choice at a timeLooking back at who you were with the information and compassion you have nowAnd toward the end, I'll invite you into a gentle exhale with me, a moment to sit beside the younger version of you and offer her something she may have needed all along: Understanding. Because maybe she wasn't stupid. Maybe she wasn't weak. Maybe she wasn't ruining her life. Maybe she was doing the best she could with what she knew, what she had, and what she was carrying at the time. And maybe the woman you are today deserves some of that same grace. You don't have to have the rest of your story figured out. You're allowed to be in the middle of it. Come as you are. Leave a little lighter. Episode 1: I Don't Want To Survive Anymore.mp3

Episode 1: I Don’t Want to Survive Anymore: The Woman Behind the Microphone For most of my life, I was really good at surviving. I was the dependable one. The responsible one. The helper. The fixer. The woman who could figure it out. The “strong” one. But somewhere along the way, I started asking myself: What if I don’t want to be strong like this anymore? What if I actually want to live? In the very first episode of The Empowered Exhale, I’m taking you behind the microphone and introducing you to the real me, not the Instagram bio, the degrees, the certifications, or the polished version. Just Stephany. I’m sharing pieces of my story, from experiencing trauma at a young age, struggling with anxiety, depression, PTSD and my mental health, to achievement, partying, searching for belonging, and eventually finding my way into the healing work I now do. But this isn’t a story about reaching some magical finish line where everything is healed and life is easy. Because I’m still becoming, too. I still go to therapy. I still overthink. I still have hard days. I still catch myself falling into old patterns. The difference is that I’m learning to meet those parts of myself with curiosity instead of judgment. I’m learning that the versions of me I once wanted to “fix” were often the very versions that learned how to keep me safe. And maybe you have a version of yourself like that, too. The woman who learned to hold everything together. The woman who became incredibly good at functioning while quietly carrying more than anyone realized. The woman who survived. Maybe she doesn’t need your judgment anymore. Maybe she deserves your gratitude. And maybe she doesn’t have to carry everything into this next chapter with you. That’s what The Empowered Exhale is about. Not becoming someone new. Coming home to yourself. In this episode, we talk about: • The difference between being strong and being stuck in survival mode • The parts of my story that led me to healing work • Mental health, trauma, anxiety and the search to understand myself • Why healing isn’t a finish line • Learning to ask “What do I need?” instead of “What’s wrong with me?” • Honoring the version of yourself who learned how to survive • Rest, joy, self-trust and learning to actually experience the life you’ve built • Why I created The Empowered Exhale and what you can expect here every Wednesday Before you go, sit with this: What have you been carrying that was never yours to hold? Maybe it’s someone else’s expectations. Maybe it’s guilt or shame. Maybe it’s the pressure to always be the strong one. Maybe it’s a story about yourself you’ve believed for so long that you’ve forgotten you’re allowed to question it. You don’t have to figure it all out today. Just get curious. Because you don’t have to spend the rest of your life surviving. You’re allowed to live it. 🤍 If this episode resonates with you, follow The Empowered Exhale so we can meet back here every Wednesday.
