    Dolly Kanithi on Trapped, Playing 8 Characters & Taking a Powerful Story to Camden Fringe

    In this episode of the Sounds and Stage Podcast, Tim is joined by actor, creator and producer Dolly Kanithi to discuss her one-woman play, Trapped, and her journey as a performer. Trapped follows a young woman named Jane and explores her experience of grooming, its long-term impact and her journey forward. Dolly takes on the challenge of performing eight different characters, each with their own voices, accents and physicalities. Dolly discusses the deeply personal inspiration behind the production, how her own experiences helped form the emotional foundations of the piece, and the extensive research that went into developing its story. We also chat about the challenges of switching between eight characters, overcoming imposter syndrome, graduating from the Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts (LIPA) and taking Trapped to the Camden Fringe. Dolly also shares her ambitions for the production, including the possibility of developing it further and taking it to Edinburgh in the future.     Edinburgh Fringe Special: Fragments Theatre Group on The Woman in the Box

    In this Edinburgh Fringe special of the Sounds and Stage Podcast, Tim is joined by members of Fragments Theatre Group to talk about their dystopian thriller, The Woman in the Box. Fresh from university and taking their first professional production to the Edinburgh Fringe, the company discusses how an initial image of a woman trapped inside a glass box developed into a thought-provoking play exploring the objectification of women, patriarchy, freedom, control and class. We hear about the process of creating the production, the challenges of bringing its central box to life, developing the show's unsettling dystopian world and why audiences might experience two very different endings depending on which performance they see. The group also talks about making the leap from university to the Fringe, their individual journeys into theatre, creative inspirations and their ambitions for the future.     Edinburgh Fringe Special: Antony Vila on The Stand-Up Experience, Improv & Surviving the Fringe

    In this Edinburgh Fringe special of the Sounds and Stage Podcast, Tim is joined by comedian Antony Vila, creator of The Stand-Up Experience — an entirely improvised comedy show where there’s no script, no plan, and the audience becomes part of the entertainment. Antony talks about why he moved away from traditional scripted stand-up, how he creates comedy from conversations with the audience, and what makes every performance completely different. We also chat about the realities of taking a show to the Edinburgh Fringe, from flyering and finding an audience to accommodation, finances and the sheer amount of preparation that goes on behind the scenes. Antony also shares how he got into comedy, his ambitions to take the show on tour, and his advice for performers heading to the Fringe.     William Street: Bringing a Story of Bloody Sunday to Edinburgh Fringe | The Fifth Act Company

    In this episode of the Sounds and Stage Podcast, Tim is joined by Tyler Cowie and Chloe Downes from The Fifth Act Company to talk about their new play, William Street, and the journey from university theatre to the Edinburgh Fringe. Set in Derry, Northern Ireland, in 1972, William Street follows the O'Shea family in the days leading up to Bloody Sunday. Rather than presenting a political lecture, the production explores the human impact of conflict — looking at family relationships, division and what happens when historic violence reaches people's homes. Tyler and Chloe discuss founding The Fifth Act Company in Oxford, developing the play through improvisation and devised theatre, Chloe's personal connection to Northern Ireland, and the challenge of condensing such a complex period of history into a one-hour production.
