And what if the collapse of mental health is intimately connected to the larger meta-crisis—and to the evolutionary possibility of a new human? In this episode of Sensemaking in a Time Between Worlds, Dr. Marc Gafni explores the mental-health crisis as part of what he calls the second shock of existence: the moment in which humanity confronts not merely the mortality of the individual, but existential risks to humanity and our humanity. Yet crisis is not only catastrophe. Crisis can be an evolutionary driver—an intensification calling forth a deeper capacity for love, value, transformation, and wholeness. Marc proposes that healing cannot happen by looking backward alone. While recovering the memories and wounds of our past matters, genuine transformation also requires that we recover a memory of our future. This opens into a new distinction between Unique Shadow and Unique Wound. Unique Shadow is our unlived or distorted light. Unique Wound is a wound to our capacity to feel—particularly our capacity to access our own irreducibly unique feeling. The task, then, is not merely to revisit or manage the wound. It is to transform Unique Wound into Unique Wonder. From here, Marc develops a new understanding of prophecy. Prophecy is not reserved for a rare figure speaking from a mountaintop. As Unique Self becomes intensified—as we recover our unique quality of feeling, intimacy, desire, and will—our Unique Self begins to disclose its unique prophecy. The prophet and the pagan, Marc suggests, must come together in a higher integration: radical feeling joined with clarified meaning, information, and value. This integration points toward the emergence of the New Human—Homo Amor: “Homo amor is the one who feels the Amorous Cosmos moving in them.” In this episode, you’ll discover: Why the collapse of mental health is also a crisis of belonging, identity, meaning, and purpose How the mental-health crisis relates to the larger meta-crisis and existential risk Why crisis can be an evolutionary driver Why healing requires recovering not only the past, but a memory of the future The crucial distinction between Unique Shadow and Unique Wound Why Unique Wound shatters our capacity to feel our unique feeling How we transform Unique Wound into Unique Wonder Why intensified Unique Self begins to disclose our unique prophecy How radical feeling must be joined with meaning, information, and value Why the birth of Homo Amor represents the democratization of prophecy and greatness This is an invitation to move beyond conventional self-help toward transformation: to recover our capacity for radical feeling, transform wound into wonder, and become activists for the sake of the whole. 519—Born to Transform: The 10 Insights of Purpose that Live in You, As You, and through You

Born to Transform: The 10 Insights of Purpose that Live in You, As You, and through You | Dr. Marc Gafni #519September 20, 2026Music Video in Video "We are the People"     https://youtu.be/kGT73GcwhCU?si=Ye9R6U8NsUn5fxYpSignup for Free Live Teaching: https://www.centerforworldphilosophya...2nd Ed. First Principles and First Values Book of the Great Library on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/First-Principl... In Episode 519 of Sensemaking in a Time Between Worlds, Dr. Marc Gafni offers a direct 10-step reality consideration exploring purpose, uniqueness, transformation, value, and our participation in the larger story of Cosmos. In This Episode: The 10 Steps of Purpose1. Why Am I Here? Does My Story Have a Plotline?Marc begins with the most fundamental existential question: Why am I here? Beneath our accomplishments and distractions is the question of whether our life has a plotline—a direction, a goal, and a story that is going somewhere 2. Either Everything Has Purpose or Nothing Has: You Can't Have It Both WaysWe are asked to take both possibilities seriously. Is reality ultimately random, pointless, and meaningless—or is there purpose? If reality has purpose, then discovering that purpose becomes one of the most important questions we can ask. Marc introduces the Hebrew concept tachlit, purpose, and its connection to yearning and fulfillment.3. The Entire Structure of the World Is Purpose: It Has TelosMarc explores telos—the idea that reality is reaching toward something. Drawing from evolutionary science, philosophy, mysticism, and interior science, he considers the possibility that reality is not merely a collection of facts but a story with direction, movement, and purpose.4. We Have Both Shared and Unique PurposeEverything is both part of the whole and uniquely itself. Marc introduces the image of the Unique Self Symphony: we participate in the same larger musical score, but each of us plays a unique instrument. Purpose therefore has two dimensions—what we do and how we do it.5. The Movement of Reality Is a Movement Toward TransformationReality is not only being—it is becoming. From the evolution of matter and life to human learning, awakening, education, and self-realization, Marc describes reality as a series of transformations. “I am born to transform.”6. My Unique Purpose Is My Unique TransformationThe fifth and fourth steps come together: if everything is unique and reality is a movement toward transformation, then my unique purpose is my unique transformation. Purpose is not merely something imposed from outside; it emerges through the particular way I participate in becoming.7. My Unique Transformation Must MatterPurpose cannot be arbitrary. Marc uses the myth of Sisyphus to explore the suffering of effort without meaningful purpose. Our unique transformation must participate in a Field of Value; we need to know that our transformation matters and that reality needs what we uniquely become.8. The Plot Lines of Reality Live in MeIf reality has direction toward greater wholeness, value, knowing, aliveness, intimacy, devotion, and skill, then we don't simply live in Cosmos—Cosmos lives in us. The larger plot lines of reality become present within our own lives and transformations.9. The Purpose of My Existence Is to Bring Deeper Wholeness to RealityDrawing on the idea of a holographic and fractal Cosmos, Marc explores how our individual stories participate in larger stories. We are not separate from the whole. Our transformation transforms the whole, and our purpose is to bring deeper wholeness to reality by becoming more good, true, and beautiful.10. Transforming the Whole Is the Ultimate PleasureThe final step is the ultimate joy: the pleasure of knowing that our Unique Self creativity and transformation actually participate in transforming the whole. Marc moves through multiple levels of pleasure—from the senses, love and relationship, productivity, and gnosis to Unique Self creativity and ultimately the pleasure of the power to transform.Born to TransformFor more information:Center for World Philosophy and Religionhttps://worldphilosophyandreligion.org/Office for the Futurehttps://www.officeforthefuture.com/enDr. Marc Gafnihttp://www.marcgafni.comLinkedIn:   / drmarcgafni  Facebook:   / drmarcgafni  Twitter:   / marcgafni   Instagram:   / marcgafni  Medium: / drmarcgafni   #marcgafni#cosmoerotichumanism#homoamor#outrageouslove#transfromation #uniqueself#NewSToryofValue#RealityConsideration#Sensemaking#Whowemustbecome#Uniquepurpose Get full access to Center for World Philosophy and Religion at worldphilosophyreligion.substack.com/subscribe

511—Reclaiming “The Odyssey” as a Story of Value: The New Hero, the Recovery of Memory, and the Field of Value in Response to the Meta-Crisis | Dr. Marc Gafni with Andrew Sweeny

Reclaiming “The Odyssey” as a Story of Value: The New Hero, the Recovery of Memory, and the Field of Value in Response to the Meta-Crisis | Dr. Marc Gafni with Andrew Sweeny STUDY WITH DR. MARC GAFNIThis conversation is one thread of a much larger body of work. Who We Must Become is the online school where that work is taught.Join here: https://whowemustbecome.com/the-school In this episode of Sensemaking in a Time Between Worlds, Dr. Marc Gafni and Andrew Sweeny enter The Odyssey as a living text of culture—a sacred story asking to be reclaimed and evolved for our moment of existential and catastrophic risk. What happens when an ancient story of the hero is read not simply as a relic of the past, but as a vessel of memory capable of revealing who we must become? Gafni and Sweeny trace the transformation of Odysseus from the clever warrior who helps win an unjust war into a new kind of hero: one who confronts his shadow, recovers the broken pieces of his story, takes radical responsibility, relinquishes power, and discovers a home deeper than Ithaca. At the center of their dialogue is a startling proposition: “It’s not the loss of knowledge that creates evil. It’s the loss of memory that creates evil.” The Odyssey therefore becomes a story of recovering memory—not only memory of the past, but what Gafni calls “a memory of the future.” Through Odysseus’s encounters with Athena, Calypso, Circe, the Sirens, Penelope, Telemachos, and the underworld, the conversation explores the evolution beyond the old, competing gods toward the realization of a deeper Field of Value—a field of First Principles and First Values in which every human being participates. Gafni and Sweeny explore the Siren’s song as the haunting memory of the life we did not live; Calypso as the feminine force that restores Odysseus to the goodness of Eros before he can face his past; and the gathering of the broken pieces of his ship as an image for gathering the broken pieces of our own stories. Odysseus eventually discovers that he cannot simply return to the person he once was. He must become someone new. He must move from cleverness to wisdom. He must face the devastation in which he participated. He must recover his story. He must atone. And finally, he must be willing to step down from the throne. This becomes the emergence of the new hero—the movement from Homo sapiens toward Homo amor. The conversation culminates in the democratization of Odysseus. The hero is no longer only the extraordinary man celebrated by the bards. The hero becomes every human face. In a participatory universe, Gafni suggests, each of us is living our own Odyssey. Our choices matter to the whole. The world itself hangs in the balance of our next act: “The world is literally 50:50, and my next action tips it towards wholeness or towards depravity. That’s power.” In this episode: Why The Odyssey can be reclaimed as an evolving Story of Value The movement from the old gods toward the Field of Value Why the new hero must move from cleverness to wisdom Odysseus as a hero who succeeds—and then discovers he succeeded within the wrong story The Trojan Horse as an image of technological power and civilizational risk Why the evolution of the hero begins after apparent victory The meaning of Homo amor and the emergence of the Divine Human Why the loss of memory—not merely the loss of knowledge—is a source of personal and civilizational collapse Calypso, Eros, pleasure, and remembering the fundamental goodness of life The Siren’s song and “the tyranny of the life I didn’t live” Why telling our story gathers together the broken pieces of our lives The journey through Hades, shadow, regret, responsibility, and atonement Why Odysseus must relinquish the throne Recovering not only the memory of the past, but the memory of the future The democratization of Odysseus: every human face can become the new hero In this time between worlds, the task is not merely to return to an old home or restore an old story. It is to receive the great stories of the past, enter their depths, and evolve them into a new Story of Value adequate to the meta-crisis. As Gafni says: “We reclaim the old story, we deepen it, and we spiral forward.” Get full access to Center for World Philosophy and Religion at worldphilosophyreligion.substack.com/subscribe

Register here: centerforworldphilosophyandreligion.com/sundayliveteachings Can the meta-crisis be solved through better technology, better laws, or better politics alone? In this profound episode of Sensemaking in a Time Between Worlds, Dr. Marc Gafni argues that the answer is no. Every dimension of today's global crisis ultimately arises from a deeper collapse: the breakdown of our shared Story of Value. Continuing his exploration of the Conversational Cosmos, Marc explains why authentic conversation is not simply a human activity—it is one of the First Principles and First Values of Reality itself. From the earliest moments of cosmic evolution to the deepest expressions of human intimacy, conversation is the living process through which information, meaning, value, and love emerge. Against this vision, artificial intelligence presents a profound challenge. Social media hijacks attention. Chatbots simulate conversation. Advanced AI seeks to hijack intimacy itself. These are not merely technological developments—they represent a crisis in our understanding of what it means to be human. Recovering authentic conversation becomes essential not only for personal transformation, but for the future of civilization. In This Episode You'll Discover: A New Story of Value Why the failure to articulate a shared Story of Value lies at the root of the meta-crisis Why only First Principles and First Values can provide lasting solutions How Value is Real becomes the foundation for culture, law, and civilization Why every person is an irreducible Unique Self with a unique contribution to Reality Attention, Conversation, and Intimacy Why attention is the First Principle challenged by social media How the second wave of AI hacks conversation Why the third wave of AI seeks to hijack intimacy itself How attention, conversation, and intimacy define the emergence of Homo sapiens Why authentic love begins with the placing of attention The Conversational Cosmos Why Reality itself is a series of conversations How conversation exists throughout the evolutionary process Why conversation creates trust, shared purpose, and transformation The relationship between conversation, intimacy, and the evolution of love How every meaningful transformation begins with the next conversation Responding to the Meta-Crisis Why polarization and loneliness are symptoms of the breakdown of conversation How conversation creates the possibility for global coordination Why rights arise from intrinsic value Why AI can simulate conversation but cannot enter genuine relationship How recovering conversation restores our humanity This episode offers one of the foundational philosophical teachings of the Sensemaking series: The future of humanity depends upon recovering conversation as a living structure of Cosmos. The evolution of conversation is the evolution of love. #MarcGafni #Sensemaking #ConversationalCosmos #Conversation #ArtificialIntelligence #FirstPrinciplesFirstValues #MetaCrisis #CosmoEroticHumanism #StoryOfValue #ValueIsReal #UniqueSelf #Attention #Intimacy #EvolutionaryLove #Humanity #Philosophy #Technology #WorldPhilosophyAndReligion #MysterySchool #Love Get full access to Center for World Philosophy and Religion at worldphilosophyreligion.substack.com/subscribe

In this timely and provocative episode of Sensemaking in a Time Between Worlds, Dr. Marc Gafni and Dr. Zak Stein address one of the defining philosophical questions of our age. Their answer is clear: No. AI is not conscious. But the deeper question is not about machines. It is about what consciousness actually is. Drawing on philosophy, developmental psychology, phenomenology, and the emerging framework of CosmoErotic Humanism, Marc and Zak argue that the modern debate has become confused because we have lost a coherent understanding of personhood, interiority, value, and the nature of human consciousness itself. The conversation introduces the powerful concept of anthro-ontological performative contradiction—the contradiction between what people claim to believe and how they actually live. If AI were truly conscious, they argue, we would relate to it as a conscious being. The fact that we do not reveals something profound about both AI and ourselves. More importantly, the conversation explores why today's AI revolution poses not only the risk of the death of humanity, but the equally serious risk of the death of our humanity through the erosion of attention, authentic conversation, and genuine intimacy. In This Episode You'll Discover: Why Marc Gafni and Zak Stein conclude that AI is not conscious The difference between consciousness, sentience, sapience, and personhood What "anthro-ontological performative contradiction" means Why consciousness cannot be reduced to computation The difference between simulated intimacy and genuine relationship Why AI is designed to encourage personhood conferral How social media hijacks attention and AI now hijacks conversation and intimacy Why authentic human encounter cannot be replicated by machines The role of responsibility, promises, and accountability in personhood Why therapy and teaching are fundamentally human encounters The danger of replacing human wisdom with algorithmic authority Why value, intimacy, and consciousness are inseparable How recovering a New Story of Value changes the AI conversation Why Sensemaking begins with recovering the reality of human interiority As artificial intelligence reshapes civilization, this conversation offers a profound philosophical framework for distinguishing machine intelligence from living consciousness—and for protecting what is most precious about being human. The future of AI depends upon first remembering what it means to be a person. #MarcGafni #ZakStein #ArtificialIntelligence #AI #Consciousness #Personhood #Sapience #AnthroOntology #Sensemaking #CosmoEroticHumanism #NewStoryOfValue #ExistentialRisk #Humanity #Attention #Intimacy #Philosophy #Technology #AIEthics #FutureOfHumanity #WorldPhilosophyAndReligion Future Reading for the Center for World Philosophy and Religion * Learn about the full Oral Essays series:Complete Oral Essay Series → https://worldphilosophyandreligion.org/oral-essays * Free Unique Self Mini Course:https://www.uniqueselfinstitute.com/the-unique-self-mini-course/ * Download “Love or Die” essay here:https://worldphilosophyandreligion.org/love-or-die-white-paper-by-dr-marc-gafni/ Get full access to Center for World Philosophy and Religion at worldphilosophyreligion.substack.com/subscribe
