Freedom of Enough

Kim Patten | Author of Pivot

Do you ever feel like you’re not doing enough, don’t have enough, or simply aren’t enough even when you’re doing everything “right”? Maybe you’re constantly comparing yourself to other women. You struggle with perfectionism, mom guilt, burnout, or feeling not good enough. You feel guilty when you rest. You achieve the goal, get the promotion, check another box—and still wonder why success feels empty. You’ve worked hard. You’ve accomplished a lot. You may even have a life you once dreamed about. So why does it still feel like you should be doing more? Freedom of Enough is a personal growth and self-worth podcast for ambitious women, high-achieving moms, and recovering overachievers who are tired of measuring their worth by productivity, achievement, money, appearance, career success, motherhood, or other people’s opinions. Join Kim Patten, author of Pivot, for honest conversations, personal stories, and practical encouragement about self-worth, comparison, overcoming perfectionism, mom guilt, burnout, motherhood, identity, body image, money, relationships, career, gratitude, finding contentment, and redefining success. We’ll talk about the questions so many women quietly carry: Why do I always feel behind? Why do I keep comparing myself to everyone else? Why do I feel guilty when I slow down or rest? Why am I so hard on myself? Why doesn’t achieving more make me feel more fulfilled? Why do I still feel like I’m not good enough? Who am I when I’m not accomplishing, producing, helping, or proving something? And how do I find contentment without giving up the ambition that is still part of me? Maybe somewhere along the way, you learned to measure your worth by how you looked, what you accomplished, how much you earned, how productive you were, how well your children were doing, or what other people thought of you. But your worth was never meant to be earned. Freedom of Enough isn’t about giving up your goals, lowering your standards, or becoming less ambitious. It’s about learning to separate your self-worth from your achievements. You can care about your career without letting your title define you. You can want financial security without believing more money will finally make you worthy. You can care about your appearance without making it the measure of your value. You can love your children deeply without being the perfect mom. You can have meaningful goals without believing the next achievement will finally make you enough. And you can grow because you want to—not because you have something to prove. Because the truth is: You have already done enough. You already have enough. You are already enough. And you have always been good enough. You don’t have to become someone more impressive before you’re allowed to feel worthy, grateful, successful, or at peace. Follow Freedom of Enough for honest conversations about self-worth, overcoming perfectionism, comparison, mom guilt, burnout, motherhood, finding contentment, personal growth, identity, and redefining success and discover the freedom that comes when you stop trying to earn what was already yours. You are already enough.

From Corporate VP to Horse Farmer: What Made Him Walk Away?

After 40 years in corporate leadership and eventually becoming a vice president, John Connors did something unexpected: he bought a horse farm. But this conversation isn’t really about horses. It’s about career reinvention, burnout, identity, purpose, and figuring out what comes next when the life that looks successful on paper no longer feels like enough. In this episode of Freedom of Enough, John and I talk about: • Reinventing yourself after a long and successful career• Why achievement doesn’t always lead to fulfillment• The hidden signs that it may be time for a career or life change• “Mindburn” John’s term for the mental and emotional exhaustion that can leave you questioning what’s next• The “Borrowed Self” and how other people’s expectations can shape the life we build• Why successful people can still find themselves asking, “Is this all there is?”• How John built a bridge into his next chapter instead of simply walking away• What running a horse farm taught him that 40 years in corporate leadership didn’t• Finding purpose and direction when you don’t have your next chapter completely figured out• What “enough” means after decades of chasing traditional success If you’re successful on paper but feeling burned out, unfulfilled, or uncertain about your next chapter, this conversation is for you. I Got Laid Off: Who Am I Without the Job Title and Paycheck?

What happens when you get laid off—and realize how much of your identity was tied to your job title, paycheck, and productivity? In this episode of Freedom of Enough, I share what it felt like to lose my job after months of feeling burned out and secretly wanting more time—and the identity shift that came when the structure, title, and professional validation suddenly disappeared. The layoff brought a mix of emotions I didn’t expect: relief, loss, freedom, fear, and even a sense of failure. I had wanted a break. But once I actually had one, I found myself asking a much harder question: Who am I without the job title and paycheck? We talk about: • The emotional whiplash of getting laid off• Why job loss can feel like both freedom and failure• How much identity can get tied to work, titles, and productivity• Why slowing down can feel so uncomfortable for high achievers• The urge to immediately fill empty space with more work and achievement• What burnout was teaching me about the way I had been living• The difference between wanting more because it matters—and wanting more because it makes us feel more important• Redefining success when life suddenly looks different• Learning to separate worth from productivity• Realizing you may already be living a full life—and slowing down enough to enjoy it If you’ve ever wondered, “Who am I when I’m no longer professionally needed?” this episode is for you. 🎧 Listen to Freedom of Enough wherever you get your podcasts. Because sometimes choosing enough means not always living for what’s next. It means realizing you’re already living a full life—and slowing down enough to enjoy it. She Got the MBA and Built the Career. Then Motherhood Changed Everything.

What happens when you build the career you worked so hard for… and then realize success looks different after becoming a mom? In this episode of Freedom of Enough, I sit down with Marissa, creator of Leading Little Humans, to talk about leaving a successful career after having kids and the identity shift that comes when the title you worked so hard for is no longer how you define yourself. Marissa and I have a lot in common: we both earned our MBAs, built careers we genuinely enjoyed, and eventually felt a strong pull toward being home with our families. We talk about: • The difficult decision to step away from a successful career• The identity shift from career woman to stay-at-home mom• Whether leaving a career means “wasting” your education and experience• Redefining success after motherhood• Finding purpose outside of a job title• Why Marissa created Leading Little Humans• Building a presence on social media without getting consumed by comparison, followers, and the pressure for more• Finding peace when everyone else seems to have an opinion about what your life should look like If you’ve ever wondered, “I worked so hard to get here—so why doesn’t this feel right anymore?” this conversation is for you. 🎧 Listen to Freedom of Enough wherever you get your podcasts. I Was Addicted to Being Busy: The 7 Types of Rest That Changed My Life ⭐

I thought rest meant getting more sleep. But after juggling motherhood, a full-time career, writing a book, launching a podcast, and trying to do it all, my body had a different message. When a sudden bout of vertigo forced me to stop, I realized I wasn't just tired—I was depleted. In this episode, I share how the concept of the seven types of rest transformed the way I think about productivity, self-care, and what it means to live a balanced life. Inspired by Dr. Saundra Dalton-Smith's book Sacred Rest, I explore the different ways we become exhausted—and the kinds of rest that truly restore us. You'll hear about:• The health scare that became my wake-up call• Why sleep alone wasn't solving my exhaustion• The 7 types of rest and how to recognize what you're missing• What happened when I completely unplugged during a family trip to Hawaii• How I learned to stop measuring every moment by productivity If you've ever felt guilty for slowing down, struggled to disconnect, or found yourself constantly chasing the next accomplishment, this episode is for you. Sometimes the most productive thing we can do is rest. Because freedom isn't found in doing more—it's found in knowing what is enough. What are you still chasing—and what would happen if you decided you already had enough? From TV Reporter to Stay-at-Home Dad : Redefining Success and Fatherhood

What happens when a father chooses family over career advancement? In this episode, I sit down with Aaron Martin, a former investigative reporter who became a stay-at-home dad. We discuss fatherhood, ambition, identity, and the pressures society places on men and women to define success in certain ways. Aaron shares his personal journey, the lessons he's learned through parenting, and why choosing a different path doesn't mean giving up on your dreams—it may simply mean redefining them. Whether you're a parent, considering a major life transition, or questioning what success really means, this conversation offers a thoughtful perspective on building a life that aligns with your values. In this episode, we discuss:• The rise of stay-at-home fatherhood• Identity beyond career titles• Parenting, purpose, and ambition• Social expectations around gender and caregiving• Defining success on your own terms What are you still chasing—and what would happen if you decided you already had enough? I Got Everything I Thought I Wanted. Then What? ⭐

For most of my life, I believed success was something to be earned through constant achievement. Better grades. More degrees. Bigger titles. Higher salaries. Another accomplishment to prove I was moving forward. The problem? Every time I reached a goal, the finish line moved. In this episode, I share my personal journey from living with what I call "Achievement Fever" to redefining success on my own terms. Growing up in a culture where being number one mattered above all else, I learned to measure my worth through accomplishments and comparison. It left me constantly chasing more while rarely feeling satisfied with what I already had. I talk about the hidden cost of viewing life as a competition, why external validation can never truly fill us up, and how becoming a mother forced me to confront some of my deepest beliefs about success, identity, ambition, and feminism. Leaving my career to become a full-time mom was one of the hardest decisions I've ever made. It challenged my sense of self and forced me to ask a difficult question: If I take away the titles and achievements, who am I? Through stories of motherhood, career sacrifice, and learning to celebrate the quiet moments that society often overlooks, I share how I began shifting my ambition away from chasing more and toward protecting what mattered most. This episode is for anyone who feels exhausted by the pressure to keep achieving, comparing, and proving themselves. Maybe the answer isn't doing more. Maybe it's defining what is enough. Growing up with the pressure to be number oneThe exhausting cycle of "Achievement Fever"Why success can feel empty when it's driven by external validationThe myth that someone else's success is your lossMotherhood, identity, and redefining feminismLeaving my career and becoming a full-time momLearning to celebrate quiet accomplishmentsFinding freedom in defining my own version of enough What are you still chasing—and what would happen if you decided you already had enough? Why More Money Never Feels Like Enough

The Number in the Fog Most of us have a number. A salary. A savings goal. A net worth. A figure we believe will finally make us feel safe, secure, and free. But what happens when you reach it? In this episode of Freedom of Enough, I explore why money is often the ultimate moving goalpost. After achieving many of the financial milestones I once believed would bring lasting peace—including paying off my home and becoming debt-free—I discovered something surprising: the feeling of "enough" didn't automatically arrive. Instead, the number simply moved. Through personal stories, reflections on family expectations, and a powerful conversation inspired by a reader who felt trapped by a high-paying career, I unpack the emotional side of money and why so many successful people continue to feel financially insecure despite having more than they once dreamed possible. This episode is an invitation to stop chasing a finish line that keeps moving and start defining what "enough" actually means for your life. • Why money often feels like a solution to fear rather than a tool for living • How financial goals quietly become moving goalposts • The difference between pursuing greatness and pursuing presence • Why comparison keeps us feeling behind, no matter how much we achieve • The danger of waiting for a financial "permission slip" that may never come • How defining your own version of enough can create true freedom Memorable Quote "Your bank account is a tool, not a report card." This Week's Reflection: Think about your current financial goal. If you reached it tomorrow, would you truly feel finished? Or would you immediately create a new number? If money gave you the freedom to choose, what would you do differently with your time? The answer may tell you more about your definition of enough than your bank balance ever could. If this episode resonated with you, please subscribe, leave a review, and share it with someone who may be chasing a number that keeps moving farther away. The Voice That Says You're Not Enough

When the loudest voice in the room is the one from your past. Why do we still feel behind, even when we're succeeding? Why does "enough" seem to move farther away every time we get closer? In this episode of Freedom of Enough, Kim explores the hidden voices that shape our sense of worth—from the expectations we inherited from our parents to the ambitious younger selves we still try to impress. She introduces the concept of Identity Debt: the psychological cost of living according to goals, definitions, and standards that no longer reflect who we are. If you've ever felt like no achievement is enough, this episode will help you understand where that feeling comes from—and how to reclaim the right to define success for yourself. • Why "enough" can feel impossible to reach • How family expectations shape our identity • The surprising influence of your younger self on your current happiness • What Identity Debt is and how it keeps us stuck • How to recognize whose voice is really speaking when you feel inadequate • Why outgrowing old definitions of success is a sign of growth, not failure This Week's Reflection: When you hear the voice that says you're not enough, ask yourself: Whose voice is it? The world would gladly define enough for us. Freedom begins when we decide to define it for ourselves. Next Episode: The Number in the Fog — why we keep chasing "more" without ever knowing how much money is actually enough. The more she accomplished, the more she felt pressured to accomplish next.
