Lidl Green Fund - w/ Dearbhla Doyle from St. Colman’s National School Conahy - 19/10/26

Dearbhla Doyle – deputy principal of St. Colman’s National School in Conahy, Co. Kilkenny. She wants to talk about the Lidl Green Fund. She wants to share their story and hopefully encourage listeners to get behind their little school! St. Colman’s National School is a small, rural, two-teacher primary school situated in Conahy, Co. Kilkenny. They currently have just 18 pupils, and although they are small in numbers, they have an incredibly hardworking school community with big ambitions for the children. They are passionate about outdoor learning, sustainability and biodiversity. They have already achieved their ninth Green Schools flag, and are always looking for new ways to encourage their pupils to appreciate and protect the natural environment. They are delighted to have been selected as one of just two finalists in County Kilkenny for the Lidl Green Fund! They are up against St. Kieran’s College, a much larger secondary school in Kilkenny, so as a tiny rural primary school, we really need the support of the wider Kilkenny community to give them a fighting chance. If successful, they hope to create a sensory biodiversity trail within their school grounds, incorporating wildflower planting, bird feeders and opportunities for hands-on environmental learning. This would provide their pupils with a wonderful outdoor space where they can explore nature, learn about biodiversity and develop a lifelong appreciation for the environment. For a school of their size, this funding would make an enormous difference. Voting takes place through the Lidl Plus app from 15th–22nd October.
