Spoiler: it's not because your mom is dumb. It's because grifters are basically unlicensed psychologists who've figured out exactly which human buttons to push, and they push them beautifully. We're not here to laugh at the people who fell for it - we're here to laugh (a little) at how well-built the trap was, and then explain, with actual rigor, how it works. No Anna Delvey reruns.
