The Line between Submission and Control - What does God mean by “Submission”?

What does it really mean when the Bible tells wives to submit to their husbands and where is the line between biblical submission and control? On this episode of Robbi on the Record, we’re going beyond the viral tradwife aesthetic to examine one of the most controversial words in modern marriage: submission. In this episode, we discuss: Why the word “submit” has become so controversial Why modern women are rejecting girlboss culture The difference between submission and control What Ephesians 5 says about wives and husbands The husband’s responsibility to love sacrificially How Scripture has been misused to control women Why submission without trustworthy leadership is dangerous Whether biblical submission is anti-feminist Why social media sells the aesthetic without the covenant What the Proverbs 31 woman actually represents Submission should never come from fear, coercion or the silencing of a woman’s voice. Biblical submission is a voluntary response to trustworthy, Christlike love and it requires just as much sacrifice from the husband. Is biblical submission empowering, oppressive or simply misunderstood? Is Halloween Actually a Christian Holiday? (The History Nobody Tells You)

Should Christians celebrate Halloween or are we participating in something darker than we realize? Every October, Christians seem to divide into two extremes. One side says Halloween is harmless fun: costumes, pumpkins, candy, and parties. The other says Christians should have absolutely nothing to do with it. But what is the truth? On this episode of Robbi on the Record, Robbi investigates the history and spiritual origins of Halloween, from the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain to All Hallows’ Eve, trick-or-treating, costumes, jack-o’-lanterns, and the commercialized holiday we recognize today. In this episode, we explore: • the ancient origins of Samhain• Halloween’s connections to spirits and the dead• how All Saints’ Day and All Hallows’ Eve shaped the holiday• the origins of costumes, trick-or-treating, and jack-o’-lanterns• how immigration and commercialization transformed Halloween• what Scripture says about witchcraft, divination, mediums, and darkness• the difference between biblical discernment and fear• whether Halloween can be celebrated for the glory of God The Bible never explicitly says, “Do not go trick-or-treating.” But it does give Christians principles concerning darkness, occult practices, conscience, influence, and what we choose to celebrate and normalize. For Robbi, the question eventually changed from: “What’s wrong with celebrating Halloween?” To: “Why do I need to celebrate it?” This episode isn’t about living in fear or judging every Christian who puts a pumpkin on their porch. Jesus is not intimidated by October 31, and discernment is not the same as fear. The real question is whether we are making our decisions from conviction or simply following culture. Famous Doesn’t Mean Qualified

Why are millions of people taking life, relationship, mental health, and even biblical advice from influencers they’ve never met? On this episode of Robbi on the Record, Robbi examines how influencers went from shaping what we buy to shaping what we believe and why having millions of followers does not automatically make someone qualified to tell you how to live. After nearly a decade inside the influencer industry, Robbi has seen how easily popularity can be mistaken for wisdom. Someone becomes entertaining, then influential, and suddenly they’re treated like an expert on marriage, trauma, parenting, money, sex, health, faith, and God. But expert in what? Social media strips away context while rewarding certainty. “Leave him” performs better than “I don’t know enough about your marriage.” “Cut them off” gets more attention than “Maybe you need an uncomfortable conversation.” Extreme advice spreads because the algorithm doesn’t ask whether something is wise it asks whether people will watch, comment, and share. In this episode, we discuss: • why we trust influencers with major life decisions • how popularity becomes mistaken for authority • why extreme advice performs better online • the dangers of diagnosing strangers from 45-second videos • why age does not equal maturity • the difference between influence, expertise, and authority • why creators need to become comfortable saying “I don’t know” • what the Bible says about teaching, character, and discernment This isn’t an attack on young creators. A 22-year-old can possess extraordinary wisdom, just as someone twice their age can offer terrible advice. The real question is not how old someone is or how many followers they have. The question is: What qualifies them to speak about this specific subject? The Provider Man Fantasy Is Ruining Love: Did God Promise You a Rich Husband?

Do women really want a provider man or do they want a rich man who can fund their lifestyle? On this episode Robbi investigates the viral “provider man” trend and the dramatic shift from “I don’t need a man” girlboss culture to women openly saying they want wealthy, masculine men who will financially support them. But when did being a provider become synonymous with being rich?Social media tells women that a man should pay for everything, own an expensive home, send luxury cars, buy gifts immediately, and provide an elevated lifestyle. Some women even say they would accept infidelity as long as the money continued. But does wealth prove that a man is generous, disciplined, faithful, emotionally present, or capable of leading a family?Or are women using a man’s income as shorthand for his character? In this episode, we discuss:what women really mean by “provider man”why women are leaving the “I don’t need a man” erawhether women want provision, wealth, or emotional safetywhy financial provision does not guarantee faithfulnesswhat happens when money, beauty, or status changesbiblical provision and sacrificial leadershipwhy character matters more than lifestylewhat women should develop before demanding a high-value manthe difference between knowing what someone has and knowing who they areMoney matters. Financial stability matters. Scripture itself recognizes that money can provide protection and security. But a bank account cannot make someone faithful. It cannot make him kind, emotionally present, trustworthy, generous, or committed to the covenant he made with you.A man can give you a beautiful house and still make you feel unsafe inside it. He can pay every bill and still leave you feeling completely unknown. Maybe women aren’t only looking for money. Maybe they’re looking for what they believe money represents: safety, stability, discipline, protection, certainty, and someone who will stay when life becomes difficult. But wealth cannot protect us from being human. Businesses fail. Jobs disappear. Relationships change. Betrayal happens. Money can create financial security, but it cannot guarantee emotional or spiritual safety. What does “provider man” mean to you? The Dark Secrets Behind the Beauty Industry: How Brands are Extorting You for Money

Six hundred billion dollars. That is what the global beauty industry is worth right now, and by 2030 it will have crossed a trillion. Bigger than the entire GDP of Saudi Arabia, bigger than Switzerland, bigger than Sweden. And the whole machine runs on one raw material. Insecurity. Not the kind that always existed. The kind that was built from scratch. I have spent years inside this world. I know the brands. I use the products. I love some of them. And in this episode I am pulling back the curtain on the business model the most powerful cosmetic companies on the planet have quietly been running since the early 1900s. Pores were not a problem until cosmetic companies decided to call them one. Cellulite did not exist as a word in popular culture before a French magazine coined it in 1968. Grey hair was distinguished, wrinkles were earned, body hair was hair. Until each one was reframed as a defect. We walk through it all. The Hegelian dialectic as a business model. The four parent companies that own almost every brand on the Sephora shelf. Why drugstore skincare and luxury skincare are often the exact same formula in different packaging. How creator love is manufactured before a product even launches. And then we land where I always have to land. What the Bible actually says about a body, a temple, and a woman who was already enough before any brand tried to sell to her. The Internet is Selling us the Idea that We Need a Course to Become a Good Wife

What actually makes someone a good wife and who gets to decide? On this episode of Robbi on the Record, Robbi Jan sits down with Tilly, creator of The Good Wife School, to question everything women are being told about marriage, submission, ambition, respect, and what it truly means to become a good wife. According to the internet, a good wife submits to her husband, keeps the house clean, stays attractive, cooks for him, respects him, supports his leadership, builds her own career, and somehow never loses herself in marriage. But how much of that definition is biblical? How much is cultural? And how much is simply personal preference? Tilly created an entire course teaching women how to become better wives so Robbi is putting her on the record. In this episode, we discuss: • What being a “good wife” actually means • What qualifies someone to teach women about marriage • What the internet gets wrong about being a good wife • The difference between submission, leadership, and control • What women misunderstand about men and marriage This isn’t another checklist telling women to cook more, speak less, and look prettier. It’s an honest conversation about biblical marriage, mutual responsibility, healthy submission, personal growth, and the difference between becoming a wife and simply planning a wedding. Can a strong, successful woman also be a submissive wife? Where does healthy leadership end and control begin? And why is the idea of becoming a “good wife” so controversial today? What do you believe makes someone a good wife? Go on the record and share your thoughts in the comments.
