Ep 6: A World Food Tour with Ace & Pip

In Episode 6 of The Secret Recipe with Ace & Pip, we are taking your family on a World Food Tour. Ace (our ever-curious rabbit) and Pip (our perpetually hungry penguin) are serving up a menu of interactive games designed to spark curiosity about different cultures, entirely screen-free. What’s on the Menu in Episode 6? * Round 1: The World Food Tour: Can your table guess the famous global dish using just three clues? From West African Jollof rice to Polish Borscht, we’re testing everyone’s culinary deduction skills. * Round 2: The Strange Law Game: We explore bizarre, real-world food rules. Your kids will have to guess if there is actually a strict legal definition for making a true Neapolitan pizza in Italy, or if Ace and Pip made it up. * Round 3: Would You Rather (Global Edition): Expect some hilarious dinner dilemmas. Would they rather eat a delicious meal using only their hands, or slurp their soup so loudly that the neighbors can hear? * Round 4: The Confession Chair: Our signature quiet-listening round, where kids get to invent their very own brand-new mealtime rules. The Deeper Lesson: Different Doesn’t Mean Wrong Beyond the laughs, the rhythm games, and the trivia, this episode weaves in a gentle exercise in empathy and cognitive flexibility. When we teach kids that slurping noodles is actually a polite compliment to the chef in Japan, or that eating with your hands is a cherished tradition in many countries, we subtly expand their worldview. The episode wraps up with a simple but powerful reminder from Ace: different doesn’t mean wrong. It just means someone else has a different “right way” of doing things. It’s a fantastic conversation starter to help children build open-mindedness in a highly approachable way. Ready to Play? * Print out tonight’s Score Tracker [Insert Link Here] so the kids can keep tally. * Set your phone or speaker on the table and hit play on Episode 6. * Enjoy a peaceful, engaged, and screen-free family dinner! Ep 5: Turn your next family dinner into an “Invention Lab” with Ace & Pip

We have all been there at 6:30 PM. The food is on the table, the energy is chaotic, and the temptation to just hand over a tablet so everyone can eat in peace is incredibly high. But what if those twenty minutes could be used to build your kids’ critical thinking and problem-solving muscles, completely by accident? That is exactly what we are doing in the newest episode of The Secret Recipe with Ace & Pip. This week, we are stepping into The Invention Lab to work together and finish Grandmother’s laughter map. The beauty of this audio game show is that it delivers exactly what kids want: absurdity, laughs, and a chance to be the expert while stealthily teaching the core skills they need to thrive. As Ace reminds us, you do not need a screen, a video, or a tablet to have a good time; you just need each other. Here is the breakdown of how we are turning dinner into a development lab in this episode: * Rapid Problem Solving: In round one, the table gets 60 seconds to invent a creative solution to a frustrating real-world problem, like a “freeze sleeve” made of solid ice to stop melting ice cream, or a “shoe shouter” that yells when you lose your shoes. This encourages rapid ideation without the fear of being “wrong.” * Collaborative Innovation: During “Build My Idea,” one person starts a concept (like an umbrella that tells jokes in the rain), and the next person must add a feature without any contradictions. It is a fun, practical masterclass in cooperative communication. * Critical Evaluation: The “Would You Rather” round asks players to choose between wild inventions such as a flying backpack versus mind-reading glasses and then clearly articulate why they made that choice to the rest of the table. * Active Listening: We close out the meal with “The Confession Chair,” which has one strict rule: when someone is speaking, everyone else must remain completely silent. For our kids, this is often the hardest, yet most valuable, game of all. Whether you are listening at the dinner table, in the back of the car, or just hanging out after school, hit play and let Ace and Pip guide the conversation. You can grab your printable score tracker from the link in the show notes. Let the games begin! This is a public episode. Ep 2: The Secret Senses Challenge

Can your family describe a food without saying its name? Can you recognise a sound before Ace & Pip reveal the answer? In Episode 2 of The Secret Recipe with Ace & Pip, we're putting our senses to work with food, sounds, surprising facts and plenty of family laughs. Skills Through Play: 1. Describe It Without Saying It — Vocabulary & Sensory Awareness: Can you describe a food using its texture, shape, taste or feel — without actually saying what it is? Kids practise putting sensory experiences into words and thinking of different ways to describe the same thing. 2. Guess My Sound — Auditory Processing & Focus: Popcorn, dolphins, thunder and elephants! Listen carefully to the sounds and see if you can work out what you're hearing. A playful challenge for focused listening and sound recognition. 3. Fact or Fib? — Critical Thinking & Reasoning: Some food facts sound completely unbelievable. Kids have to listen, think and decide: fact or fib? It's a simple way to practise questioning information rather than accepting the first answer they hear. 4. The Confession Chair — Self-Expression & Connection: Time for some wonderfully weird food confessions! A relaxed moment for kids and grown-ups to share their preferences, experiences and funny food stories — and listen to each other. Along the Way, We Discover… Why was ketchup once sold as medicine? Why does popcorn pop How do dolphins “see” using sound? Why does thunder rumble How do woodpeckers protect their heads? And how can elephants communicate across huge distances? 🎧 Play Along No screen needed. Just your ears, your imagination and your family. Perfect for mealtimes, car rides, after school or whenever you want a screen-free game everyone can join. Want to keep score? One screen-free way to play together. Pull up a chair. The Secret Recipe is ready! 🤖 Frequently Asked Questions: What are good audio games for kids in the car? The Secret Recipe is an interactive audio game show for families. You don't need a screen—just listen along as Ace and Pip guide you through trivia, memory challenges, and guessing games. Why does a thunderclap rumble? Lightning creates a sonic boom. Because light travels faster than sound, you see the lightning instantly, but the sound wave takes longer to reach your ears. Since a lightning bolt is miles long, you hear the bottom of it first, and the top seconds later, creating a long rumble! Was ketchup actually medicine? Yes! Nearly 200 years ago, doctors sold tomato ketchup as medicine in pharmacies to help with upset stomachs. Why does popcorn pop? Popcorn pops because each kernel has a tiny drop of water hidden inside. When the kernel heats up, the water turns into steam, causing the kernel to explode outward! How do dolphins see in the dark? Dolphins use echolocation. They make rapid clicking noises that act like a flashlight made of sound. The sound bounces off objects and travels back to the dolphin, allowing them to map out the ocean even in pitch darkness. Why does a thunderclap rumble? Lightning is five times hotter than the sun, and it heats the air so fast that it creates a giant shock wave (a sonic boom). You hear a long rumble instead of a single pop because light travels faster than sound. Since lightning bolts are miles long, the sound from the bottom of the bolt reaches your ears a few seconds before the sound from the top! How do woodpeckers not hurt their heads? Woodpeckers have a special spongy bone in their skulls that acts like a built-in bicycle helmet to absorb the shock. Even cooler, their incredibly long tongue wraps all the way around the back of their brain to hold it safely in place like a tiny seat belt! How do elephants communicate from miles away? Elephants talk using deep rumbles that create tiny earthquakes. Other elephants can feel these vibrations traveling through the dirt using their massive, sensitive toenails—it's like having built-in phones right inside their feet! This is a public episode.
