Golf Rehab Episode 12 - Are Your Golf Clubs Holding You Back? Distance, Driver Loft & Better Scoring

Send us a message, or your questions Are your golf clubs really holding you back, or is it time to stop buying equipment and start working on your game? This week on Golf Rehab, Pete and James tackle one of amateur golf’s biggest obsessions: equipment. From chasing more distance to constantly changing clubs, we discuss what actually makes a difference to your scores — and what might just be an expensive distraction. THE HITTER & THE FITTER Does your driver have enough loft? Are golfers obsessed with distance for the wrong reasons? James explains why keeping the ball in the air and finding the fairway can be far more valuable than chasing another 10 metres. OPERATION SCRATCH Pete takes on the challenge of playing difficult shots and trying to manufacture different ball flights. The results are a mixed bag, but the lesson is clear: the golf course is for playing, not experimenting. We also discuss the mental side of golf, recovering after a bad start and why Pete’s frustration can turn one poor shot into several. GOLFING CATCH-UP We discuss the latest developments around LIV Golf, including the uncertainty surrounding Jon Rahm, Joaquin Niemann and Sergio Garcia. Plus, the new 2027 Titleist Pro V1 and Pro V1x, whether amateur golfers will notice a difference between ball generations, and Sahith Theegala’s ball getting stuck in a tree — including an umbrella that got stuck trying to rescue it. GROUP THERAPY Gary from Sydney asks the question many golfers need to hear: when should you stop buying new clubs and actually work on your game? James explains why getting fitted is only part of the solution, and why lessons and practice matter just as much. THE PRESCRIPTION This week’s advice is simple: play away from the pin. Stop taking unnecessary risks at sucker pins and give yourself a bigger target. More greens, fewer disasters and better scores. Plus, we share an update on The Longest Day, as we prepare to play 72 holes at Mount Broughton on 30 November to raise money for cancer research. Support our fundraiser: https://www.longestday.org.au/fundraisers/golfrehab If you enjoy Golf Rehab, follow the podcast, subscribe on YouTube and share it with a mate who spends more time buying golf clubs than practising with them. Golf Rehab Episode 11 - Golf Ball Testing, Mini Drivers & Why Less Clubs Might Make You Better

Send us a message, or your questions This week on Golf Rehab, Pete and James are back with a packed episode covering golf equipment, course management, the latest stories from the world of golf, and another step in Pete’s mission to get to scratch. The boys break down their golf ball testing, comparing premium, mid-range and entry-level balls and discovering just how different the numbers can be. Does the most expensive ball actually perform best for you? The Hitter & The Fitter gets into wedge fitting and why the wrong bounce or grind could be costing you shots, plus a big question for amateur golfers: could a mini driver actually be a better option than a 3-wood? In Operation Scratch, Pete puts the half-set challenge to the test, and surprisingly shoots one over par. With fewer clubs in the bag, he’s forced to think more about course management, club selection and where he wants to leave his next shot. We also talk Tom Kim’s Asian Games gold medal and the pressure of avoiding compulsory military service, Brooks Koepka putting a mini driver in the bag, Scottie Scheffler’s priorities, a very strange protest involving tennis balls at the Alfred Dunhill, and the USGA and R&A considering different equipment rules for professionals and amateurs. Plus, Pete’s putting continues to be a problem, James prescribes another challenge, and we reveal the next stage of Operation Scratch. THE LONGEST DAY Pete and James are taking on The Longest Day on 30 November, playing 72 holes at Mount Broughton to raise money for cancer research. We’re aiming to raise $4,000, and every donation makes a difference. This week on Golf Rehab, Pete finally gets one over James… and he’s going to make sure everyone knows about it. The boys break down Pete’s dramatic match against James, including a pressure-packed finish, a few questionable putting performances and the moment Pete finally got the win. They also run through the biggest stories from the week in golf, including Jacob Bridgeman’s incredible 61 to win the Biltmore Championship, JJ Spaun’s BMW PGA Championship victory at Wentworth, and Jay Hall’s first professional win. Then things get interesting. Tony Finau’s very unusual putter setup gets a closer look, Tiger Woods is back hitting golf balls, and the boys discuss what a return to competitive golf could look like for him. Plus, one of the strangest moments of the week: a caddie literally drops the bag and walks off mid-round after an apparent argument with his player. And finally, the boys answer the listener question: Who would be your dream guest on Golf Rehab? The answers range from Anthony Kim and Adam Scott to Steve Irwin, Peter Brock, Shane Warne and Diego Maradona. As always, golf, gear, tour stories, plenty of banter and two golfers trying to work out why they keep making this game harder than it needs to be. Golf Rehab isn't about recovering from golf. Golf Rehab Episode 6 - Magpie Attacks, The Mental Game & 200 shot challenge

Send us a message, or your questions This week on Golf Rehab, Pete's putting has officially become a problem,  and he's starting to wonder whether a putting lesson might be cheaper than buying another putter. Pete and James get stuck into the week in golf, including Shane Lowry's huge Irish Open win, the Solheim Cup, Carlotta Ciganda's ruthless revenge, Charlie Hull's questionable headwear and the latest drama surrounding LIV Golf. There's also plenty of Australian golf chat, including the Wagga Pro-Am, the NSW Regional Open, Pete's new status as a "senior" golfer and the early-morning round at Beverly Park that ended with Pete being attacked by a magpie. The boys also discuss their plans to play 72 holes in a day for Kids' Cancer, including a rather dangerous new donation challenge, and hatch a plan to hit 200 shots between them in an attempt to make a hole-in-one. Here is the link to donate: https://www.longestday.org.au/fundraisers/golfrehab Then things get a little more serious as they talk about golf's mental side — from Charlie Woods losing his temper to Sergio Garcia's putting demons and Zach Johnson's four-outcome mindset. Plus, the listener question of the week: what's the best golf course you've played in Australia or anywhere in the world? Another week of golf, gear, travel, tour news, questionable decisions and absolutely no sign that either of these two is recovering. Because Golf Rehab isn't about recovering from golf. It's accepting that none of us ever will.

We also discuss Tyrrell Hatton’s hilarious “I Want to Break Free” walkout, Michael La Sasso’s breakthrough LIV win, Bryson DeChambeau’s future and whether he’s becoming more YouTuber than professional golfer. On the equipment side, we compare driving irons, hybrids and 7-woods, talk about why lower ball flight can be a huge advantage in the wind, and James puts Pete through another putting drill as he continues his quest to get his handicap down. Golf Rehab | Episode 2: Four-Putts, Practice & Keeping Golf Real

Send us a message, or your questions In Episode 2 of Golf Rehab, Pete and James are back — although this week they're recording from different locations. They kick things off with the latest from professional golf, including Scottie Scheffler's dominant playoff performance, the FedEx Cup ranking system, Rory McIlroy's early playoff struggles, the US Amateur and some of the emerging players worth keeping an eye on. Then things get a lot closer to home. Pete talks through a brutal day on the greens at Oatlands — including a four-putt that he is still having nightmares about — before explaining why he's switched back to his LAB putter with a new SuperStroke grip. James breaks down why putting can be so heavily influenced by perception, feel and confidence, and why changing something as simple as a grip can completely change how a putter performs for an individual golfer. The boys then tackle one of the biggest problems with amateur practice: going to the driving range and simply smashing balls. James explains what a professional range session with purpose actually looks like, why you should have a goal before you start hitting, and why hitting 100 balls as quickly as possible probably isn't the practice you think it is. They also discuss whether golfers should wear headphones while practising, the difference between a serious practice environment and a busy range like Moore Park, and why simply hitting more balls doesn't necessarily mean you're getting better. And then there's golf social media. Pete and James talk about why golfers are constantly posting their best shots, why showing the bad ones can actually make your content more relatable, and how easily golf content can create unrealistic expectations about what the average golfer should be capable of. Pete even admits to claiming a 245-metre drive that may or may not have received some assistance from a sprinkler. 😂 Finally, James introduces Pete's first official Golf Rehab challenge. For the next week, Pete has to stick with ONE putter and complete a specific six-foot putting drill designed to improve face control and start line. No changing putters. No excuses. No escaping the challenge. We'll find out next week whether it actually works. Golf Rehab isn't about recovering from golf. It's accepting that none of us ever will. 🎧 Subscribe to Golf Rehab and follow the journey as Pete tries to take his game from single figures to scratch — with James attempting to keep him on track along the way.

Welcome to Golf Rehab I Episode 1: The Support Group for Golfers

Send us a message, or your questions Welcome to the very first episode of Golf Rehab — the support group for golfers who know they should probably stop changing clubs, chasing swing fixes and blaming their equipment… but never actually do. Golf Rehab was born from the conversations Pete and James were already having about golf. James is a scratch golfer, professional club fitter and golf industry insider. Pete is a 51-year-old single-figure golfer chasing scratch, content creator and, like most golfers, permanently convinced that the next change might finally be the answer. In this first episode, we introduce ourselves, explain why we started Golf Rehab and talk about what we want this podcast to become. This isn't a golf instruction podcast. It's not an equipment review show. And we're not here to tell you what clubs you should buy. It's two golfers with very different perspectives having the conversations golfers actually have after a round — the equipment, the obsession, the frustrations, the myths, the mistakes, the improvements and everything that makes this ridiculous game so addictive. We'll be joined in future episodes by tour professionals, coaches, club fitters, industry experts, creators and plenty of other interesting people from the world of golf. There'll be conversations about equipment, technology, club fitting, tour golf, golf travel, the business of golf, amateur golf and the stories behind the people who make the game what it is. Golf Rehab isn't about recovering from golf. It's about accepting that none of us ever will. Welcome to the support group. Golf Rehab Helping golfers... by making it worse since 2026.
