    Eve’s Lament

Welcome Back Episode Two: Eve’s Lament. This story is not a meditation on infidelity, but rather on the avenues of escape. This story was inspired by a band I stumbled upon at the Nowhere Lounge at Fontainebleau in Las Vegas—Lizzy and The Triggerman. While playing pool and sipping whiskey, this Lizzy took the mic and said to the room, “This next song is of course about feminine rage, as many of my songs are, and it is a song of escape… This is Eve’s Lament.” And an excellent song it is. It inspired the title of this story and the story itself. Although it is set in a more contemporary setting, the illustrious and wealthy Mercer Island, its themes mirror the song. When one has everything they could have ever dreamed, why do they still want more? So settle in and let’s get into it. Fireside Papers (1/3)

In the first installment of The Fireside Papers, we begin where all stories begin: at the beginning. From cave paintings and oral traditions to novels, films, podcasts, and e-books, storytelling has followed humanity through every stage of its history. In “Stories, Tales, Fables, Myth—All Time Best Sellers,” Keven D. Stehl considers storytelling as one of our oldest and most distinctly human acts—how we use stories to preserve memory, pass down lessons, make sense of the unknown, and leave something of ourselves behind. Technology changes. The medium changes. The fire remains. From cave paintings to e-books, it’s all part of the same tradition.
