What happens when a local historian and author sits down to narrate the longest American novel ever published (when it debuted in 1952)? We'll all find out together on "Oh, Sironia!" Follow us on Instagram @ohsironiapodcast!

  1. Episode 1

The "Oh, Sironia!" Podcast Episode 01: Why Am I Doing This to Myself ... Again!

In which your host introduces the basic facts behind the genesis of "Sironia, Texas," which was the longest book ever published in the English language when it was launched in 1952.

  2. Episode 2

Episode 02: A Brofest, Some Racism, and a (Literal) Cliffhanger

In which we meet several more characters, learn about how guys ca. 1900 used to "bro out" together - hint: not much different than today, honestly - and a mysterious conversation is begun ... but not completed!

  3. Episode 3

Episode 03: Circus Roustabouts and Other Social Stigmas

In which a secretive conversation is finally revealed, Bill visits East Sironia for ... reasons ... and we learn something truly revealing about Calvin and Milly's relationship. Plus: a circus person!

  4. Episode 4

Episode 04: The Hazel and Millicent Show, Part I

In which we get into the heads of two leading ladies of Sironia: Hazel Elliott and Millicent "Milly" Letitia Thaxton Thaxton (who is, you'll recall, married to her cousin!). If you're looking for plot advancement, you'll be disappointed, but if you like juicy details on backstories and at least three uses of the censoring beep sound effect, my friend, you are in luck!

  5. Episode 5

Episode 05: Of Shopping Trips and Unrequited Loves

In which we check in with Hazel, Marshall and Moira, get our first reference to a certain style of wood made popular by famous Wacoans Chip and Joanna Gaines, and discover that one of our characters delivers a mean drunken nuptial speech.

  6. Episode 6

Episode 06: Boys Both High and Lowdown

In which Carietta Cahoon Storrow and her unusual clothing habits enter the stage, and we learn a lot about her furniture, her unmentionables, and her nephew, hellraisin' Jed Haydn.

  7. Episode 7

Episode 07: I Think Madison Cooper Hated Fat Women

In which Jed Haydn suffers the indignity of his creepy aunt waking him up after a night of cavorting - and he's still in his birthday suit! Also: a rattling gourd proves an effective, low cost communication tool.

  8. Episode 8

    Episode 08: Ghost Stories

In which lore is shared, tea is spilled, and the stories are depressing enough to warrant three "sad!" exclamations over the course of the show. That's sad.
