I’ve enjoyed this podcast.
Host Nicole brings real credibility to this. With her background running for office and now working as a journalist, she understands both sides and what matters to communities.
The episodes nail what good local journalism should do. It’s not fluff. It’s grounded reporting with facts, statistics, policies and perspective.
For example I liked the episode featuring Sarah Karp, a senior education reporter who actually knows the landscape of the CPS board. Her insights were incredible. What impressed me most: the hard truths about absenteeism (45+ days being the threshold) and how policies that used to matter got stripped away. The breakdown of what school board members actually do, and why budget balance matters for school success, is critical context most people miss.
I recommend everyone tune in to learn more about all the issues from education, housing, economic development and health. All of these are the most pressing issues facing Chicago today. You’ll be informed to vote not in just this election but every election, and ensure your voice is heard!
