How Do You Encourage Your Pastor? How to Get Rid of Your Pastor

How do you get rid of your pastor? A retired minister had four tongue in cheek answers, and every one of them makes the pastor better. Then I give you three things to do instead: remind your pastor of the time he showed up when you needed him, tell him to go and take time off without you, and thank him for sticking with you. Trust me, they need it. Why Are Churches Failing? What the Bible Prescribes

Have you wondered why so many churches have empty parking lots or have shut down entirely? My son George Jr. and I look at one denomination that has lost most of its members, and at how a church loses its first love. Then I walk through Revelation 2:4 and 5, where Jesus gives the church at Ephesus three steps back: remember from where you have fallen, repent, and do the works you did at first. Who Was John Wycliffe? The Man They Dug Up and Burned

John Wycliffe put the Bible into English at a time when owning a copy could cost you your life. In the 1300s every sermon was in Latin, and almost nobody understood a word. Wycliffe said the Scriptures, not the pope and not the councils, are the supreme authority in the church. He died in his own bed in 1384. In 1428 they dug up his bones, burned them, and threw the ashes into the River Swift. They called him the Morning Star of the Reformation. This is part 2 of Torchbearers. What Church Do You Belong To? Where Every Christian Church Comes From

Ask ten people what church they belong to and you will get ten answers. For the first thousand years there was one church. Then five bishoprics, then the split of 1054. Whether you are Baptist, Methodist, Catholic, Orthodox or non-denominational, you and I come from the same place, all the way back to Genesis 3:15. This is part 1 of Torchbearers, a five part series on the men who carried the fire before Luther struck the match. What Do Numbers in the Bible Mean? Why the Order of Lists Matters

What do numbers in the Bible mean? One, three, seven, twelve and forty all carry weight, and so does the order names appear in a list. I walk through the numbers that show up again and again in Scripture, then look at who is listed first and last among the disciples, and who comes first among the women at the empty tomb. Then I give you a challenge in the book of Acts with Paul and Barnabas. Feel Like the Only Believer in the Room? God Always Keeps a Remnant

Ever feel like you're the only believer in the room? Elijah did too, and he was off by seven thousand. I walk through Genesis 6 to 9: the Nephilim, whether God changes His mind, the flood, and Noah's three sons. Then I show why Shem's name turns up in Jesus' genealogy in Luke 3. God always keeps for Himself a remnant, and His purposes will never be thwarted. How Do You Start Sharing Your Faith? The Not So Secret Society

How do you get a small group actually sharing their faith? What we do is a not so secret society with a little sword pledge pin, a bucket of fame and a bucket of shame. The only rule is it has to make you a little nervous. I walk through 1 Peter 3:15 and Ephesians 5:16, why "preach the gospel, and if necessary use words" doesn't hold up, and why you should try it for one quarter and see what happens. Enoch and Lamech: Two Family Lines in Genesis 5

Is Genesis 5 just a list of names? The list is making a point. I trace the two family lines that come out of Genesis 3:15. In Seth's line people begin to call on the name of the Lord, and Enoch, the seventh from Adam, walks with God. In Cain's line Lamech, also the seventh, brags that he'll be avenged seventy-seven times. Then I look at Exodus 20:5 and 6 and what it means for your family today. It only takes one person to turn a family line toward the Lord.
