Breaking Habits, and Do Our Pets Go to Heaven? | Hope Unfiltered Ep. 4

Will you ever see your pet again after they die? It’s a question almost every child who has loved an animal eventually asks — and, if we’re honest, plenty of adults wonder about it too.In Episode 4 of Hope Unfiltered, Jason Potter asks: Do our pets go to heaven? The Bible doesn’t explicitly tell us that our individual pets will be waiting for us. But it does present animals as an important part of God’s creation — and paints a picture of a restored creation where suffering, evil and death are no more.Jason shares the story of his children losing their beloved guinea pigs, Dora and Boots, and explores why the grief we experience when an animal dies shouldn't simply be dismissed as *“it was only a pet.”*We may not have certainty about seeing our pets again — but perhaps the character and generosity of God gives us permission to hope. Then the episode turns to another very human question:Why do I keep doing the things I don't want to do?Whether it’s sugar, addiction, staying up too late, unhealthy reactions or habits we've carried from childhood, changing our behaviour can be incredibly difficult.Jason explores habits, neuroplasticity and the biblical idea of “renewing your mind” to explain why simply trying to stop an unwanted behaviour often doesn't work.Instead of obsessing over eliminating the old pattern, what if lasting change comes from repeatedly building a new pattern that eventually becomes stronger than the old one?In this episode:• Do pets go to heaven?• Will we see our animals again?• What does the Bible say about animals in the new creation?• Why does losing a pet hurt so much?• Why do we keep repeating behaviours we want to change?• How are habits formed in the brain?• What does neuroplasticity tell us about changing behaviour?• What does the Bible mean by “renewing your mind”?• Why slipping back into an old habit doesn't mean starting again• How do we actually build lasting change?**Hope Unfiltered** explores your questions about life, faith, identity and purpose through conversations about the Bible, psychology, science and the experiences of everyday life.Got a question you want Jason to tackle? Can You Be Born in the Wrong Body? | Hope Unfiltered Ep. 3

Can someone be born in the wrong body? And if our feelings about who we are conflict with our biology, what actually defines our identity? In Episode 3 of Hope Unfiltered, Jason Potter tackles one of the most difficult and controversial questions submitted to the show: What does Christianity actually say about transgender identity? Rather than beginning with condemnation, Jason starts with something Christians can sometimes forget in conversations like this: God loves people — including those wrestling deeply with their gender and identity. Jason explores the Christian understanding of human beings as integrated people — where our bodies aren't simply containers we happen to live inside, but an important part of who we are. He discusses gender dysphoria, feelings, biological sex and why the Christian understanding of identity can clash with some contemporary ideas about gender. But this episode isn't only about gender. The second question asks: How do we stop society from changing who we are? From advertising and news media to movies like Avatar and shows like Star Trek, Jason argues that the messages surrounding us are never completely neutral. They're shaped by different assumptions about humanity, God, truth and the purpose of life. So how do you work out what you actually believe? Jason challenges us not to blindly accept what we're told — including what he says — but to examine our worldview, ask difficult questions and test whether what we believe is actually true. In this episode:• Can you be born in the wrong body?• What does Christianity say about transgender identity?• Do our feelings determine who we are?• Does your body form part of your identity?• How should Christians respond to people experiencing gender dysphoria?• How does society influence what we believe?• Are movies, media and advertising shaping our worldview?• How do we determine which worldview is true?• Why should you believe what anyone tells you? Hope Unfiltered is a place for courageous conversations about life, identity, faith and purpose — including the questions people are sometimes afraid to ask. Keep asking the difficult questions. Keep testing what you're told. And keep wrestling with what is true.
