We Didn't Plan for This Podcast

How Yoga Changed My Life

We Didn’t Plan for This PodcastLife rarely goes according to plan. People definitely don’t.We Didn’t Plan for This is about the stuff nobody prepares you for — grief, friendship, family, relationships, getting older, starting over, changing your mind, and figuring out who you are when life looks nothing like you thought it would. Some episodes go deep. Some go completely off the rails. Most do a little of both. And then there’s People Be Peopling — our slightly less serious investigation into the weird, hilarious, wildly relatable things humans do. Why do we tell our hairdresser our entire life story? Why do strangers confess their deepest secrets on airplanes? Why do group texts become emotional war zones? And why does every family have that one person?Because sometimes life is heartbreaking. Sometimes people are ridiculous. And sometimes the best way through all of it is to sit down with someone you love and say, “Okay…what the hell was that?”Real stories. Real conversations. Very little pretending we have it all figured out.We didn’t plan for this. But here we are.In Case of Emergency, Press Play: Meditation for real life — especially when real life is being a lot. In Case of Emergency, Press Play is a collection of short, approachable guided meditations for anxiety, stress, grief, overthinking, self-doubt, sleep, letting go, finding focus, and those days when your nervous system seems to have its own agenda. No perfect meditation practice required. No need to clear your mind, sit perfectly still, or suddenly become a person who has everything figured out. Just press play. Each episode gives you a few minutes to breathe, ground, reset, and reconnect with yourself — whether you’re starting your morning, lying awake at night, sitting in your car before walking into work, navigating something hard, or simply needing a minute. Some days you need calm. Some days you need perspective. Some days you just need someone to remind you to breathe. When your heart says one thing, your brain says another, and your nervous system starts doing interpretive dance…press play.

From the Archives: She Had Her Dream Job—Until She Didn’t

Send Us a Message Amelie had what many would call a dream job—performing with Cirque du Soleil. She stepped away to have a baby, fully expecting to return. But when she did… the job she thought would be waiting for her wasn’t there anymore. In this episode, we talk about what it feels like to lose something you worked your whole life for… especially when you thought you were only pressing pause. This isn’t just about performing or losing a role. It’s about losing something you built your identity around…and figuring out who you are without it. Amelie didn’t plan for this either. If you’ve ever had something not be there when you thought it would be… this conversation will resonate.  Send Us Your Stories! Have a story of your own that you definitely didn’t plan for? 15. The Writers of Our Shows Need to Be Fired

Send Us a Message When life gets so ridiculous, even Hollywood would reject the script for being too unbelievable. Life has become so ridiculously over-the-top that even Hollywood would say, “Okay, that's a little much. Nobody's going to believe that all happened to one person.” And yet, here we are. Living through plot twists nobody approved, with a production budget of approximately $14 and absolutely no stunt doubles. The episode isn't about whose life is harder. It's about how sometimes the only reasonable response to something completely unreasonable is to laugh. Send Us Your Stories! Have a story of your own that you definitely didn’t plan for? 14. I Would Like to Speak to Whoever Is in Charge: An Official Complaint Against Adulthood

Send Us a Message From two dissatisfied customers of adulthood.... We would like to speak to whoever is in charge of adulthood. Immediately. This week on We Didn’t Plan for This, Adrienne and Nora are filing five official complaints against adulthood.  From passwords and menopause to insurance deductibles, questionable customer service, and the complete lack of an adult orientation manual, we’re demanding answers. Or at least a complimentary beverage. But before we demand a full refund, we’re acknowledging a few unexpected upgrades that make getting older pretty damn great: better friendships, stronger boundaries, less b******t, and the ability to laugh when life goes completely sideways. Adulthood may not be what was advertised, but some of the surprise features are worth keeping.  All sales are final. Management is unavailable. Thanks for holding. Send Us Your Stories! From the Archives: Three Months Later: What Actually Helps

Send Us a Message Three Months Later: What Actually Helps Three months after Brian’s passing, Adrienne sits down with her daughter Campbell for a conversation they didn’t plan and didn’t script.  Together, they reflect on the experience of being on the receiving end of support—what helped, what didn’t, and what it feels like when everything has changed. They also talk about therapy and what it’s like to take that step when it wasn’t something they expected. This isn’t an episode with answers. It’s simply a real conversation about where they are right now. At the end of every episode, we take a “pause before you get out of the car.” Because sometimes you just need a second… before going back to everything. For anyone navigating something difficult—or supporting someone who is—you’re not alone. This episode contains candid discussion of grief, loss, widowhood, and emotional overwhelm. Please listen in a way that feels supportive to you, and pause or skip if needed. Send Us Your Stories! Have a story of your own that you definitely didn’t plan for? We want to hear it.
