Menopause Blood Tests After 40: The 4 To Ask For (When It Is Not Your Fault)

A wise gardener never stands wringing her hands over a wilting plant. She kneels, she tests the soil, she sees plainly what it is short of, and she calls the right hands for the right task. Tonight you become that gardener, with your own body. For weeks now on Saath we have named what happens to a woman in these years. Tonight it turns. Everything we have named has an answer, and tonight you stop being the patient this is happening to. You pick up the map. THE PLAN, IN THREE SMALL STEPS One. Four tests, one small sample, one quiet morning. Your sugar (HbA1c), your thyroid (TSH), your haemoglobin, and your vitamin D with B12. You need no one's permission to know your own body. Two. When the reports come back, you carry them to your doctor and you sit with him as a partner, not as a patient. A report in your hand changes the whole conversation. Three. You gather a small team. The doctor reads the numbers. But the plate that steadies your sugar is the work of a good dietitian, and the strength that holds your bones upright at seventy is a trained pair of hands at a gym, or a yoga teacher who truly knows this body. Four tests. Four windows. Not one of them a diagnosis, my dear. Each one only light, falling onto a cause that was never your fault. IN THIS EPISODE 0:00 A wise gardener, and a wilting plant 0:25 Tonight, you pick up the map 0:58 Our ritual, arriving 1:13 The plan, straight away 1:28 Three small steps 1:34 One: four tests, one morning 1:57 Two: your reports, your doctor 2:23 Three: gathering your small team 3:19 Why these four 4:44 A few lines to carry 5:09 Eleven diseases before the chai goes cold 5:47 If you do only one thing 6:16 The sentence to carry 6:34 This week, and next Friday ONE GENTLE WORD Saath walks beside your doctor, never in front of him. Nothing in this episode starts or stops a medicine. These are only how you walk into his room already holding the light. NEXT FRIDAY PCOD. PCOS. The word that scared you. What it truly is, why it was never your fault, and why it is the one episode to carry to your daughter. Saath, Journeys with Tasneem. A new episode every Friday at 7 PM. Hosted by Tasneem Bhopalwala. Episode 13 · Why BMI Is Wrong For Indian Women | The Weight Series

You were measured with a ruler that was never made for your body. That chart on the clinic wall — the one that has called you "too much" for years — was drawn mostly on Western women. An Indian woman can carry the very same amount of fat while standing at a lower number on it. Thin on the outside is not the same as safe on the inside. Tonight I throw that ruler out, and hand you the true one. In this episode: - Why the BMI line begins earlier for Indian bodies, and why that is a flaw in the ruler and not in you - The one measurement you can take at home tonight, with a tape and nothing else — your waist, less than half your height - Why the change often arrives around forty six for us, and knocks first on the knees and shoulders rather than the hot flush - The four small blood tests that tell you what no scale ever can The four tests, so you can write them down: HbA1c · TSH (thyroid) · Haemoglobin · Vitamin D and B12 Carry that list to your doctor. Saath walks beside your doctor, never in front of him. "I am not too much. I was only measured wrong." Next Friday: Meals. The one thing almost every Indian woman is quietly not eating enough of. — Saath, Journeys with Tasneem A new episode every Friday, 7 PM.
