    The Johnstone Podcast Ep 2 - David Stone and The Tremors

    A while back a friend told me about the Tremors. I hadn’t heard of them... turns out that back in the early 1960s, they were the biggest band in Cambridge and one of the biggest bands in the Waikato. I had all kinds of questions, so I tracked down the band’s vocalist David Stone. He talked about Cambridge, the band, and getting up close and personal with artists like Eric Clapton, Quincy Jones, Mick Jagger and The Pretenders.

    The Johnstone Podcast Ep 1 - Filmmaker Matt Hicks

    In late 2025, I interviewed Cambridge Filmmaker Matt Hicks about his film ‘The Tavern’ for the Cambridge Museums Voices of Cambridge Oral-History Archive. I didn’t get all the info I needed, so recently, Matt and I met outside the Clements. The swankiest gig in town, the Clements used to be The Masonic, a notorious dive that provided the inspiration for the film. Once we were done we hopped into his car and spent two hours driving around town talking about all sorts of things. The hardest thing about episode one - editing it down to 58 minutes.
