TrueLife: After Dark

George Monty

TRUE LIFE: AFTER DARK is the fictional shadow of TrueLife — an anthology of audio fiction, psychedelic noir, psychological horror, speculative storytelling, surrealism, science fiction, and stories from the edges of consciousness. Created by George Monty, After Dark enters worlds where reality has become unstable — where memory can become architecture, language can alter perception, addiction can become ritual, and the impossible can begin to feel inevitable. THE UNIVERSE: consciousness → perception → altered states → identity → transformation → reality. Season One — The Chrysalis Compound is a serialized psychedelic fiction story about transformation, identity, altered perception, consciousness, and becoming. Begin with Episode 1 and listen in order. Season Two — The Pharmacopoeia explores fictional psychedelic compounds and the strange territories they open: altered states, experiments, perception, consciousness, identity, and realities that refuse to remain stable. Season Three — Night Priests of the Casino descends into psychedelic noir, gambling, addiction, obsession, mysticism, grief, fate, liminal spaces, and supernatural dread. Season Four — THE DECREE: Five Truths begins a new mystery in Bellhaven, where five accounts of the same night form a fractured map of a reality governed by an unseen decree. Every series is a different doorway into the same larger territory: What happens when the story we use to explain reality stops being big enough to contain it? All stories, characters, compounds, events, and supernatural elements are fictional.

THE DECREE - Five Truths - Part 2- The Count

THE DECREE Five Truths, Part Two: The Insider “The Count” A Dead King Cycle Event, Episode 2 of 5 The bell tower has one hundred and thirty-eight stairs. Wren knows because she has counted them every day for six years. She knows the rope by touch. She knows the bell by sound. She knows the shadow on the stone, the wind at the collar, the exact angle of her shoulder, the precise moment the town below begins to wait. And she knows one other thing. She is afraid of being late. In “The Count,” the second episode of The Decree: Five Truths, we enter the story from the inside. The world that appeared from a distance in Part One becomes intimate here, narrowing to one woman, one tower, one rope, one approaching noon. Wren is not simply the keeper of the bell. She is a woman who has spent years measuring herself against an impossible standard, carrying a verdict inside her long before anyone else has the opportunity to pronounce one. As noon approaches, counting becomes ritual. Then necessity. Then something else entirely. The clock shortens. The sentences shorten. The distance between certainty and catastrophe collapses. And when the bell finally answers, it answers late. What follows is not an explanation of what happened. It is an experience of what happens inside the person who believes, before the world ever speaks, that she has already failed. The Decree is a five-part cycle of interconnected truths, perspectives, and consequences. Each episode moves deeper into the machinery of a town organized around a dead King and the decree that still governs the living. Part One gave us the decree from the outside. Part Two puts us inside the woman who must carry it. The countdown has begun. And sometimes the most dangerous thing a person can count is not the seconds until judgment. It is the reasons they deserve it.
