Episode 009: The Dead Don't Always Stay Dead: First Responder Confessions

What happens when the people who respond to emergencies, save lives, and care for the dead encounter something they simply cannot explain? In this Halloween episode of Mandy and Candy Nightshifters, Candace welcomes Cynthia back for a journey into the strange and unsettling world of paramedics, firefighters, and morticians. We're digging into Reddit stories of mysterious figures appearing during emergency calls, unexplained activity inside fire stations, equipment failures at the worst possible moments, and funeral home encounters that might make even the biggest skeptic question what happens after death. Are these paranormal experiences, bizarre coincidences, or simply the effects of working long hours surrounded by trauma, emergencies, and death? And before we clock out, The Final Shift Report takes us from ghost stories to real-world nursing concerns as we discuss the postponed nursing strike at Brigham and Women's Hospital and the ongoing fight for fair compensation. Turn down the lights, grab your favorite beverage, and join us for another shift filled with medical mysteries, dark humor, and stories that might just follow you home. Because sometimes the strangest part of the night shift isn't the patient. Episode 008: Where The Dead Never Clocked Out

What happens when a hospital closes its doors, the patients are gone, and the staff clocks out... but something apparently stays behind? In this Halloween episode of Mandy and Candy Nightshifters, Candace and Cynthia take you on an international tour of five of the world's most notoriously haunted hospitals. From an abandoned hospital in South Africa with a disturbing medical scandal to Singapore's Old Changi Hospital and its ghostly nurse who apparently never got the memo that her shift was over, we're exploring the strange history behind these unsettling places. We'll visit Massachusetts and uncover the horrifying story of serial killer nurse Jane Toppan, travel to South Korea to investigate the psychiatric hospital that inspired a horror movie, and finish in England with wartime medicine and the mysterious Grey Lady of Nocton Hall. But are these places actually haunted, or have years of tragedy, medical mistreatment, and folklore created legends that refuse to die? Then, in The Final Shift Report, we turn to a disturbing real-life medical controversy: the reported failed execution of Christa Pike, raising serious questions about medical procedures, emergency response, and patient care. It's a journey through ghosts, questionable medicine, historical horrors, and the occasional nursing joke. Because sometimes the scariest thing in a hospital isn't what goes bump in the night. It's what actually happened there. Clock in, Nightshifters. Hopefully, everyone clocks out! ----- "We’ll see you on the next shift." email: MandyandCandyNightshifters@gmail.com Instagram and Facebook @MandyandCandyNighshifters

    Episode 006: Corpse Medicine

From the Apothecary Jar to the Transplant Operating Room Fresh human blood. Powdered skull. Human fat. Egyptian mummy. Even moss scraped from a dead man’s skull. For hundreds of years, people used parts of the human body as medicine—and believed those treatments could save their lives. In this Shift Report, we travel through the strange and sometimes gruesome history of corpse medicine, from gladiator blood and mummy powder to King’s Drops, executioners supplying human remains, and the bizarre world of sympathetic medicine. Then the story takes a surprising turn. As medicine began to understand blood types, hormones, infection, tissue preservation, immune rejection, and transplantation, the human body stopped being viewed as a mysterious medicinal ingredient and became something very different: a source of biological material—and eventually, a donor. So did corpse medicine disappear completely? Or did science simply change the way we understood an idea humans had been chasing for centuries—that something from one human body might help save another? It’s weird medicine, bad ideas, fascinating history, and some remarkably good science. And whatever you do… Do not lick the skull. 💀 CONTACT INFORMATION:  MANDYANDCANDYNIGHTSHIFTERS@GMAIL.COM INSTAGRAM AND FACEBOOK  @MANDYANDCANDYNIGHTSHIFTERS --- "We’ll see you on the next shift." email: MandyandCandyNightshifters@gmail.com Instagram and Facebook @MandyandCandyNighshifters
