The Buccaneers Have The Best Secondary In The NFL

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have quietly developed what Evan Winter believes is the BEST secondary in the NFL. Through the first eight weeks of the 2026 season, Tampa Bay is tied with the Minnesota Vikings for the NFL lead in EPA per pass allowed at -0.28. The Bucs have also recorded 12 interceptions and have allowed only one quarterback since Week 5 to throw for more than one touchdown in a game. Evan breaks down the numbers, the individual performances and the depth that have turned Tampa Bay's secondary into one of the biggest strengths on the entire roster. It all starts with Zion McCollum. McCollum has arguably been one of the best corners in football through the first eight weeks. He's allowed zero touchdowns through the air, ranks first in coverage EPA according to NFL Next Gen Stats at -25.4 and has allowed a 44.0 passer rating when targeted. Evan also breaks down McCollum's individual matchups against some of the NFL's best receivers, including Ja'Marr Chase, Tee Higgins, Jerry Jeudy, Justin Jefferson, Christian Watson, Matthew Golden and DK Metcalf. And McCollum isn't doing it alone. Jacob Parrish has emerged as another major piece of Tampa Bay's secondary, with the Buccaneers becoming the only team with two players ranked in the top 10 in opposing passer rating allowed among qualified defensive backs. Then there's Tykee Smith. Smith has shown significantly more range in coverage this season while continuing to provide the physicality Tampa Bay needs closer to the line of scrimmage. His development could eventually give Todd Bowles the perfect complement to Antoine Winfield Jr. Evan also explains why Winfield's return could make this secondary even more dangerous and why Tampa Bay needs to see more splash plays from its star safety. The depth is another major reason for optimism. Tampa Bay has been able to develop young players while still getting contributions from its experienced veterans, giving the Bucs more options than they've had in recent seasons. So are the Buccaneers actually the best secondary in the NFL? Or is Evan getting a little too carried away? Let us know what YOU think in the comments. The Buccaneers Have The NFL's Most DANGEROUS Rushing Attack

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have suddenly developed one of the most dangerous rushing attacks in the NFL — and Evan Winter wants to know who is going to stop it. The Buccaneers just ran for a franchise-record 324 yards against the Atlanta Falcons, who entered the game with one of the NFL's best run defenses. Atlanta was allowing just 88.9 rushing yards per game, 3.8 yards per carry and had a top-10 stuff rate before Tampa Bay completely dismantled that defense. Bucky Irving led the way with the best rushing performance of his career, while Kenneth Gainwell added another huge performance with 25 carries for 140 yards. The Buccaneers have now combined for nearly 600 rushing yards over the last two games. Evan explains why this rushing attack could become the backbone of Tampa Bay's offense while the passing game continues to find its identity. And it's not just Bucky Irving and Kenneth Gainwell. The offensive line has been dominant, while Tampa Bay's wide receivers and tight ends have consistently done their part as blockers. Tristan Wirfs helped lead the way against Atlanta, Cade Otton continues to excel as a blocker and even Ted Hurst made a huge block against a defensive lineman with a massive size advantage. The result is a rushing attack that is becoming extremely difficult to stop. The Bucs also have a favorable schedule ahead of them. Chicago presents a difficult test this week, but Tampa Bay has several upcoming opponents with bottom-10 rushing defenses, including Carolina, the Chargers and New Orleans. If the Buccaneers can continue running the ball at even a fraction of the pace they've established over the last two weeks, it could give Baker Mayfield and the passing game the time they need to figure things out. Evan also breaks down why the Falcons' claim that they contained Tampa's rushing attack through the first three quarters doesn't hold up when you look at the numbers. So who is actually going to stop the Buccaneers' rushing attack? Could Tampa Bay have the best rushing offense in the NFL? Let Evan know what you think in the comments. The Buccaneers Have A PERFECT Plan To Stop The Falcons

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers face one of their toughest tests of the 2026 season when they take on the Atlanta Falcons in a massive NFC South showdown. Evan Winter breaks down exactly what the Buccaneers' defense needs to do to slow down Atlanta's explosive offense and come away with a huge divisional win. The biggest key is obvious: stop Bijan Robinson. Robinson is currently the NFL's leading rusher and one of the most dynamic running backs in football. But Evan explains why Tampa Bay actually has a matchup advantage in the trenches, with the Buccaneers boasting one of the NFL's best run defenses while Atlanta's offensive line has struggled to consistently create running lanes. The key could be loading the box. Evan explains why Tampa Bay should use more eight-man boxes and Penny fronts to force Bijan away from the middle of the field while still keeping enough defensive backs on the field to handle Drake London and Kyle Pitts. Tykee Smith could play a massive role in that strategy as the Buccaneers' box safety, while a potential return from Antoine Winfield Jr. would allow Tampa Bay to be even more aggressive near the line of scrimmage without sacrificing its ability to defend the deep middle. The other major key is Michael Penix Jr. Penix has played extremely well this season, but Evan identifies pressure as the biggest weakness in his game. Tampa Bay has generated 10 sacks over the last few weeks, and the Bucs' four-man pass rush could be critical if they want to force Penix into difficult situations. Then there's Drake London. Evan explains why he would put Zyon McCollum on London throughout the game, including following London into the slot. London's size and versatility make him a major matchup problem, and Evan believes McCollum's size and length give Tampa Bay its best chance to contain him. Evan also breaks down the matchup between Bucs offensive coordinator Zach Robinson and Falcons defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich, the importance of keeping the running game involved and why Tampa Bay needs to take pressure off Baker Mayfield and his injured thumb. Can the Buccaneers shut down Bijan Robinson and force Michael Penix Jr. to beat them? Let Evan know what you think in the comments. The Buccaneers Could Become Sellers After This Week

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are heading into a massive NFC South matchup against the Atlanta Falcons, and ESPN just added even more intrigue to the game by naming three Bucs as potential trade candidates ahead of the NFL trade deadline. Evan Winter breaks down the ESPN report from Matt Bowen and Jeremy Fowler and explains why the Buccaneers could potentially become sellers if they lose to Atlanta this weekend. The three Tampa Bay players named as potential trade candidates are Yaya Diaby, A'Shawn Robinson and Chris Godwin. First up is Yaya Diaby. Diaby is coming off a three-sack performance against the Carolina Panthers and has emerged as Tampa Bay's best pass rusher. But ESPN's Jeremy Fowler believes the rise of David Walker could put Diaby's future in question. Evan explains why trading away Diaby would create a major problem for Tampa Bay's pass rush, especially with Rueben Bain Jr. still developing. Evan also uses the A to Z Sports Trade Simulator to see what Tampa Bay could potentially get for Diaby, with a hypothetical package involving a third- and fourth-round pick. Next is A'Shawn Robinson. Robinson has played extremely well for the Buccaneers this season, providing size, versatility and run defense along the interior. But he's on a one-year contract and is already 31 years old, which could make him an intriguing trade candidate if Tampa decides to sell. Finally, there's Chris Godwin. Godwin has the lowest trade probability of the three according to Fowler, at just 15%, and Evan explains why he doesn't believe Tampa Bay should move him. Godwin remains the Buccaneers' best wide receiver when healthy, and trading him would create another major hole in an offense that is already trying to find its identity. Evan also discusses Daron Payne, who ESPN listed the Buccaneers as a potential landing spot for. Tampa Bay should stay FAR away from that move, according to Evan, especially with A'Shawn Robinson already playing at a high level. So what happens if the Buccaneers lose to Atlanta? Could Tampa Bay actually become sellers before the November 10 trade deadline? And if the Bucs do sell, which players should they actually consider moving? The Buccaneers Have A CHAMPIONSHIP-Caliber Defense

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are 2-1 over their last three games, and something BIG has been brewing on defense over the last five weeks. Evan Winter breaks down why the Buccaneers may have quietly developed a championship-caliber defense — and why this unit could make Tampa Bay a very difficult team to deal with if it continues playing at this level. Since Week 3, the Buccaneers have allowed just 19 points per game, which would rank fifth in the NFL over that stretch. The Bucs are also among the NFL's best defenses in several key efficiency metrics, including third in pass EPA allowed and third in total EPA per play allowed. Their run defense has been just as impressive, allowing only 78.2 rushing yards per game from Weeks 3-7. The secondary has been a major reason for the turnaround. Zyon McCollum is having the best season of his career, Jacob Parrish continues to develop, Benjamin Morrison has played well when healthy and Antoine Winfield Jr. could return soon to make an already impressive secondary even stronger. The Buccaneers also haven't allowed a quarterback to throw for more than 250 yards in a game this season, outside of Dak Prescott's performance in Tampa Bay's loss to Dallas. Then there's the front seven. Yaya Diaby, Rueben Bain Jr., Vita Vea, C.J. Brewer, Alex Anzalone and Josiah Trotter are all contributing in different ways, and Evan explains why the different skill sets across the defensive line and linebacker corps are allowing Tampa Bay's defense to work together so effectively. The Bucs are also tied for eighth in the NFL with 13 sacks, although Evan identifies one area where the pass rush still needs to improve: overall pressure production. If Tampa Bay can stay healthy and the offense can continue developing its identity, this defense could give the Buccaneers a chance to make a serious run later in the season. But first, Tampa Bay has to take care of business against the Atlanta Falcons. Is this Buccaneers defense for real? Or is Evan buying into fool's gold? Let us know what YOU think in the comments! 3 Buccaneers Players Who Deserve WAY More Love

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers dominated the Carolina Panthers 43-13 on Sunday, and while the obvious stars like Bucky Irving, Yaya Diaby, Zion McCollum and Baker Mayfield deserved plenty of attention, there were three Buccaneers players who deserve a lot more love for what they did in the win. Evan Winter breaks down three Bucs players who are flying under the radar after Tampa Bay's dominant Week 7 performance. First is wide receiver Tez Johnson. Johnson finished with two receptions for 33 yards and a touchdown, added a roughly 15-yard jet sweep and had a huge 22-yard punt return in the third quarter. Evan explains why Johnson's versatility, efficiency and ability to make plays in space have earned him more opportunities in Tampa Bay's offense. Johnson has also emerged as the Buccaneers' best deep threat, and Evan argues that Tampa Bay should design more plays specifically to take advantage of his speed and elusiveness. Next is Cade Otton. Otton didn't record a reception against Carolina, but his impact in the run game was significant. He finished with one of the highest run-blocking grades among tight ends who played Sunday and was also excellent in his limited pass-blocking opportunities. Evan explains why Otton's blocking was a major reason Bucky Irving, Kenneth Walker and Sean Tucker were able to find success on the ground. Finally, there's Benjamin Chukwuma. The young offensive tackle stepped into the starting lineup and delivered an impressive performance despite replacing Luke Goedeke. Chukwuma allowed just one hurry on 14 pass-blocking snaps and made several important blocks in the running game. Evan explains why Chukwuma's development could give the Buccaneers an important young swing tackle for the rest of this season — and potentially a future starter down the road. Which Buccaneers player do YOU think is getting overlooked the most? Let us know in the comments! The Buccaneers have another huge NFC South matchup coming up against the Atlanta Falcons. The Buccaneers Just Got The News They Needed

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers desperately need Baker Mayfield back — and Evan Winter believes he can still help save their season. Baker has now fully practiced on consecutive days after suffering a dislocated thumb against the Minnesota Vikings in Week 3. He also spoke with the media Thursday, which is another strong indication that Baker is trending toward playing this weekend. The Buccaneers are 1-5, but their season isn't necessarily over. Evan explains why Baker Mayfield's return could completely change the trajectory of Tampa Bay's offense and give the Bucs a legitimate chance to climb back into the NFC South race. Jalon Daniels has provided plenty of exciting moments over the past few weeks, including helping Tampa Bay produce its best offensive performance of the season against Dallas. But Baker's experience, situational awareness and ability to manipulate defenses gives the Buccaneers a much higher offensive ceiling. Baker also has something Jalon Daniels simply doesn't have yet: years of NFL experience. That could be especially important when it comes to identifying protections, recognizing defensive looks, manipulating coverage and making the right decisions at the line of scrimmage. Evan also breaks down how Baker's time on the sideline could actually benefit him. Todd Bowles has emphasized the value of Baker getting mental reps while watching the offense, allowing him to process the new system without having to make split-second decisions on the field. And the schedule gives Tampa Bay a potential opportunity. The Buccaneers have the Panthers and Falcons coming up, and if Tampa can win both games, the Bucs could enter their matchup with Chicago at 3-5 before heading into the bye week. So can Baker Mayfield actually save the Buccaneers' season? Or is Tampa Bay simply too far behind after its 1-5 start? Let Evan know what you think in the comments. The Buccaneers' Season Could Be On The Line vs. Carolina

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are 1-5 and officially entering must-win territory as they prepare to face the Carolina Panthers in Week 7. Evan Winter is joined by A to Z Sports' Cole Noble to break down everything Tampa Bay needs to know before this crucial NFC South matchup. The Panthers enter the game at 3-2 and have won two straight, including an impressive road victory over the Philadelphia Eagles. With the NFC South still wide open, this game could have major implications for Tampa Bay's season. So what makes Carolina different this year? Bryce Young and the Panthers passing game have taken a major step forward. Young currently leads the NFL in passing yards per game, while Carolina has gotten Jalen Coker back and has seen strong production from its receiving corps. But there is a major weakness Tampa Bay should attack. Carolina's outside cornerbacks have struggled, with Caleb Evans and Will Lee allowing 317 combined yards on 38 targets over the previous two games. With Jaycee Horn and Mike Jackson both out, Tampa Bay could have an opportunity to attack the Panthers through the air. On the other side, the Buccaneers have to deal with Devin Lloyd. Lloyd is playing at an extremely high level and has become the centerpiece of Carolina's defense. He's also producing as a pass rusher, with a 27% pass-rush win rate, 10 pressures and two sacks according to the discussion in this video. And don't forget Chuba Hubbard. Hubbard has recorded back-to-back 120+ yard games and three touchdowns over the past two weeks. If Tampa Bay can't slow down Carolina's rushing attack, it could make life much easier for Bryce Young. Evan and Cole also break down: - Dave Canales' transformation in Carolina - Brad's role in the Panthers' offense - Bryce Young's development - The biggest weaknesses on Carolina's defense - How Tampa Bay's linebackers match up - Devin Lloyd's impact - Chuba Hubbard's role - The Panthers' special teams X-factor - What Tampa Bay needs to do to get to 2-5 Can the Buccaneers beat Carolina and keep their season alive?
