Accounting Tech Talks

Dheeraj Pandey

Welcome to Accounting Tech Talks by Credfino, the podcast for accounting firm owners, tax professionals, and industry leaders who want to build firms that are ready for what's next. Technology is changing every part of the accounting profession. AI is reshaping workflows. Automation is redefining service delivery. Firms are rethinking how they hire, train, and scale. Through conversations with CPA firm owners, AI founders, technology leaders, and accounting experts, we explore what those changes actually look like in practice. We believe technology alone doesn't transform firms. The right people, the right processes, and the right technology working together do. As an offshore accounting partner, our role goes beyond providing talent. We work alongside firms to understand how they operate, identify opportunities to improve workflows, recommend technology where it creates value, and build delivery models for long-term growth. Accounting Tech Talks is an extension of that philosophy.

How AI Agents Are Solving Problems Accounting Software Couldn't | Jeremiah Kovacs (WAGMI)

What if your accounting firm could run its bookkeeping workflows through AI agents instead of relying on multiple apps and manual processes? In this episode of Accounting Tech Talks, Dheeraj sits down with Jeremiah, founder of Muse Minded and WAGMI, to discuss how he's using Claude Code to rethink the way his accounting firm operates. Jeremiah has spent over a decade running an e-commerce accounting firm, working with 100+ businesses and experimenting with different technologies to make bookkeeping more efficient. But traditional automation always had its limitations, especially when dealing with multiple data sources, inventory, and client-specific workflows. Now, he's experimenting with an entirely different approach. Instead of switching between accounting apps, his team uses Claude Code, custom connectors, and AI skills to pull data from platforms like Amazon, Shopify, and banks, process it using client-specific workflows, and push reviewed records into QuickBooks Online. And the interesting part? Jeremiah isn't a trained software developer. In this conversation, we discuss how his AI-powered bookkeeping setup works, why traditional accounting automation struggles to scale, how accountants can start building with AI without coding experience, and why he believes AI agents will empower accountants to do more rather than replace them. Chapters 00:00 – Introduction to Jeremiah and Muse Minded 03:01 – Finding a niche in e-commerce accounting 04:46 – Scaling an accounting firm to 100+ clients 07:39 – Why traditional accounting automation falls short 10:46 – How his firm uses Claude Code for bookkeeping 13:08 – What skills do accountants need to work with AI? 14:47 – A simple prompt to get better results from AI 16:01 – Why you don't need coding skills to build with AI 19:00 – Learning AI through communities and open-source tools 26:50 – AI agents and automation projects Jeremiah has built 28:50 – WAGME and the future of agentic accounting 30:06 – Why Jeremiah believes accountants will become builders If you run an accounting or bookkeeping firm and have been exploring Claude Code, AI agents, or ways to automate your workflows, this conversation offers a look at what another firm owner is actually building and learning along the way. How THIS Tax Expert Uses Claude to Automate Emails, Research, and Workflows | Yehuda Tenennbaum, EA

In this episode of Accounting Tech Talks, we sit down with Yehuda Tenenbaum, EA, a tax professional and accounting firm owner based in Baltimore, to discuss how he uses Claude, tax automation, and AI-powered tools to run a more efficient solo tax practice, improve tax preparation accuracy, and spend more time focusing on his clients. Chapters: 01:53 Inside Yehuda’s Tax Technology Stack 04:14 How TaxDome, Juno, and ProConnect Work Together 10:08 Using AI to Improve Tax Knowledge and Research 13:25 How Yehuda Uses Claude in His Tax Practice 13:48 Automating Emails and Daily Tasks With Claude 17:53 Using Claude Skills to Automate Tax Calculations 22:30 Specialized Tax AI Tools vs. General-Purpose AI 23:56 Combining Claude With Other Tax Research Tools 26:33 How AI Will Change Accounting Firms in the Next 3–5 Years 27:53 Why Human Relationships Will Matter More in an AI-Driven Industry Yehuda has been running his own accounting practice for several years and transitioned to working on it full-time about two years ago. His approach to technology is simple: “I’m lazy, and therefore I automate.” Rather than repeating the same manual tasks, Yehuda is constantly looking for opportunities to build systems that make his firm more efficient. His current tech stack includes TaxDome for practice management, ProConnect for tax preparation, Juno for tax workflow automation, and Claude for everything from email management to tax research and custom workflows. In this conversation, Yehuda shares how connecting TaxDome, Juno, and ProConnect has dramatically reduced manual data entry in his tax preparation process. He also explains why the biggest benefit of automation isn't necessarily completing more tax returns, but improving accuracy and having more time to understand complex tax situations. We also get into some practical ways he's using Claude in his firm. Yehuda has built a daily Claude routine connected to GitHub and Gmail that organizes emails, drafts replies, and learns his communication style over time. He's also created custom Claude Skills that take unstructured tax data and turn it into spreadsheets for analyzing deductions and calculating better outcomes for clients. Beyond individual use cases, we discuss whether accountants should build their own AI workflows or rely on specialized tax technology, how to combine AI with deterministic systems for greater accuracy, and why understanding the problem you're solving matters more than chasing the latest AI tool. Towards the end, Yehuda shares his perspective on where accounting is heading over the next three to five years. As AI takes over more of the repetitive work, he believes the real differentiator for accounting firms will be the human relationships they build with clients. If you run a tax or accounting firm and are experimenting with Claude, ChatGPT, AI agents, tax preparation automation, practice management software, or building your own workflows, this conversation is for you. 🎙️ Accounting Tech Talks Guest: Yehuda Tenenbaum, EA Subscribe to Accounting Tech Talks for more conversations about accounting technology, firm growth, artificial intelligence, and the tools changing how modern accounting firms work. Inside a CPA’s AI-First Tax Firm | Samuel Leon, CPA (TaxWeave)

In this episode of Accounting Tech Talks, we sit down with Sam, CPA, Founder of The Millennial CPA and TaxWeave, to discuss how he built a technology-enabled tax firm, why that experience led him to build his own AI tax product, and how accounting firms can use AI without compromising sensitive tax data. 00:38 Sam’s Journey From CPA to Firm Owner 04:43 How The Millennial CPA Uses Tax Technology 07:04 How His Internal Tools Became TaxWeave 08:06 Building a One-Person, Technology-Enabled Tax Firm 10:04 Can Tax Firms Use AI Securely? 12:02 Why Personal Tax Data Makes AI More Complicated 13:12 How TaxWeave Handles Sensitive Tax Data 18:57 The Accuracy Problem With Automated Tax Prep 20:37 How Tax Firms Can Use TaxWeave Today 24:43 What Will AI in Accounting Look Like in 3–5 Years? 25:40 Will AI Replace Tax Accountants? 29:20 How Credfino Is Building an AI-Ready Offshore Tax Team Sam has spent more than 13 years in accounting, working everywhere from Deloitte to smaller and mid-sized firms, with much of his career focused on tax. When he decided to start his own firm, The Millennial CPA, he didn’t just want to build another tax practice. He wanted to see how far he could take it with technology. That meant experimenting with smart intake, automations, Claude, AI-powered tax workflows, and ways to connect the different tools his firm was already using. Eventually, the tools he was building for his own firm evolved into TaxWeave, an AI-first platform he is now bringing to other tax firms. In this conversation, Sam also gets into one of the biggest questions around AI in tax: how do you actually use it when you’re dealing with highly sensitive client data? We discuss anonymizing tax data before it reaches AI, the accuracy problem with automated tax prep, why AI still needs guardrails, and where Sam believes AI will fit into accounting firms over the next three to five years. If you run a tax or accounting firm and are experimenting with ChatGPT, Claude, AI agents, tax prep automation, practice management, or building your own workflows, this conversation is for you. 🎙️ Accounting Tech Talks Guest: Sam, CPA, Founder of The Millennial CPA and TaxWeave Subscribe to Accounting Tech Talks for more conversations about accounting technology, firm growth, artificial intelligence, and the tools changing how modern accounting firms work. The First Step Toward Building an AI-Ready Accounting Firm

In this episode of Accounting Tech Talks, we sit down with Ben Vickery, Founder of TaxFlow, to discuss why accounting firms need simpler workflows, stronger processes, and a more engineering-led approach to AI. [00:00] Welcome to Accounting Tech Talks [00:37] How a Spreadsheet Problem Led to TaxFlow [02:06] Do Smaller Firms Need Full Practice Management Software? [02:57] Who TaxFlow Is Built For [07:06] Why Accountants Need to Think Like Engineers [10:04] Are Accounting Firms Really Adopting AI? [20:07] Why Accounting Firms May Become Software Shops [21:06] Why Future Firms May Hire Fractional Engineers [22:55] Engineers Are Finding a New Home in Professional Services [24:03] Closing Ben’s journey into accounting technology began inside a local CPA firm in Colorado. The firm already had a client portal and communication tools, but it was still using spreadsheets to track returns, responsibilities, and workflow status. Instead of replacing the entire technology stack with a larger practice management system, Ben built a simpler solution around the firm’s existing processes. That internal tool eventually became TaxFlow.. How to Build a Scalable CFO Firm Without Losing the Personal Touch

In this episode of Accounting Tech Talks, we sit down with Jabree, Founder of Four Palm Advisory, to discuss what it takes to build and scale a modern CFO services firm. [00:00] Welcome to Accounting Tech Talks [00:37] Jabree’s 20-Year Journey Through Accounting and Finance [01:30] What Working as an In-House CFO Taught Him [04:11] Why Jabree Started 4Palm Advisory [05:11] Bringing White-Glove Service to Smaller Businesses [07:35] Should a CFO Firm Pick a Niche? [29:14] Closing Jabree brings nearly 20 years of experience across public accounting, banking, credit risk, real estate, private equity, and in-house CFO roles. One of the biggest questions we explore is whether a growing CFO firm should specialize in one industry or remain a generalist. Jabree explains why industry knowledge matters so much in fractional CFO work. When you understand how a client’s industry operates, you can work faster, identify problems earlier, and provide advice that goes beyond standard financial reporting. At the same time, committing to a single niche can be difficult when a firm is still growing. That is why Four Palm is taking a multi-niche approach, with a particular focus on: • Private equity • Real estate • Entertainment The firm also serves clients in other industries when it has the right expertise within its team. Technology is another important part of the conversation. If you are building a fractional CFO, bookkeeping, controller, or accounting advisory firm, this conversation offers an honest look at the decisions that shape the first few years of growth. 🎙️ Accounting Tech Talks Guest: Jabree, Founder of 4Palm Advisory Subscribe to Accounting Tech Talks for more conversations on accounting technology, firm growth, artificial intelligence, and the tools changing how modern accounting firms work. Why Accounting Firm Owners Become Bottlenecks

What happens when an accounting firm grows, but the way it operates doesn’t grow with it? In this episode of Accounting Tech Talks, Dheeraj speaks with Leah Roderick, founder of Fast Enough Consulting and Fractional COO to accounting firms, about why growing firms often struggle with execution, accountability, technology adoption, and owner dependency. Leah explains when a firm has become too complex to be run “from inside the owner’s head,” how an operating system like EOS® can bring structure to growth, and why having too many priorities often means very little actually gets finished. They also discuss one of the biggest challenges in accounting technology today: firms buying more software and AI tools without changing the underlying processes. From practice management adoption to building a real AI strategy, Leah shares what firms need to get right before technology can create meaningful change. If your accounting firm is growing but becoming harder to run, this conversation is worth listening to. Featuring Leah Roderick, Fractional COO, Fast Enough Consulting. How AI Is Helping Small Firms Take On Bigger Tax Problems

AI is changing what small CPA and tax firms can take on. For years, complex tax questions often meant referring work out, calling a specialist, or telling a client, “Let me get back to you.” That creates a difficult choice for smaller firms: turn away work they could potentially serve, or spend significant time researching questions that sit outside their everyday workload. In this episode of Accounting Tech Talks, we sit down with Adam, founder of Bizora, to explore how AI is changing that equation. We talk about the growing capabilities of frontier AI models such as ChatGPT and Claude, and why they can already handle a large part of complex tax analysis. But tax has a difficult final layer: edge cases, nuances, jurisdiction-specific rules, treaty questions, and the details that can change an answer. That is where the conversation gets interesting. Adam describes this as the “last mile of tax” and explains how specialized AI can help tax professionals work through those harder questions rather than simply using AI as a faster research tool. We also discuss what this could mean for smaller CPA firms that want to expand beyond routine compliance work and take on areas such as: • Cross-border tax and entity structuring • Multi-state taxation • Tax treaty analysis • Sales and property tax questions • Apportionment • More nuanced federal tax questions • Advisory work that traditionally required specialized expertise The bigger question is not whether AI will replace tax professionals. It is what happens when a small firm can access capabilities that were previously difficult to build in-house. Could AI help a 1 to 10 person CPA firm say yes to more complex client questions? Could it reduce the gap between smaller firms and firms with large tax transformation or specialty tax teams? And as AI models continue to improve, will the future of tax technology be a collection of separate applications, or will professionals work through AI models connected to specialized tools, data, and workflows? We get into all of that, including where general-purpose AI is already strong, where specialized tax technology still matters, and what the next generation of AI-enabled tax workflows could look like. If you run a CPA or tax firm and are thinking about how AI can expand your firm's capabilities, this is a conversation worth watching. 🎙️ Accounting Tech Talks Guest: Adam, Founder of Bizora Subscribe to Accounting Tech Talks for more conversations on AI, accounting technology, tax technology, and the tools changing how modern accounting firms work.
