Recipe Roots: Your family's recipes, in their own time

What's the story behind your family's favorite recipe? This week, I share how a member's comment on G2G turned into a new feature for Recipe Roots, my tool for turning your WikiTree family into a printable family cookbook. The proofreading sheet now has a family story box, with gentle prompts for the occasion a dish was made for, where the recipe came from, and what you remember about it. Plus updates on the Headstone Photo Tool (now in WikiTree Sourcer's preview mode), Cemetery Map, and Name Cloud, a first look at WikiTree Days (5 to 8 November) as WikiTree turns 18, WikiTree Challenge #11 with Gideon Greenspan, and this week's events. Cemetery Files: Headstone Tool

It’s time for another Cemetery Files! In this episode, I show you the Headstone Photo Tool I’ve been building. It reads the names and dates on your headstone photos, finds the cemetery from the photos’ GPS, checks whether the person might already be on WikiTree, and builds a worklist for new profiles, complete with a monumental inscription citation. I also show how it works with Cemetery Map to plot burials, using my photos from Fairmont Cemetery in Raton, New Mexico. Plus a Name Cloud update, an offer to help you get started with vibe coding, WikiTree Challenge #11 with Gideon Greenspan, WikiTree Day planning, and upcoming events. I share my screen to show both tools. If you’d like to see them, the video is on my YouTube channel: https://youtu.be/1LWWu3piIL8 Companion blog post: https://countrygirlgenealogy.blogspot.com/2026/10/CemFilesHeadstoneTool.html

Plus my tips for working with AI, WikiTree Challenge #10 with Blaine Bettinger, WikiTree Day planning, and upcoming events. I share my screen to show each of these tools. The 11th Source-a-Thon on WikiTree runs 2–5 October, kicking off at 8am ET! Update on the Purple Triangles Project (Sep 2026)

Profiles for all of the Bibelforscher in the Ancestry.com dataset for Ravensbrück have been created: 192 profiles! This episode is all about the Purple Triangles project on WikiTree, which documents Jehovah's Witnesses persecuted under the Nazi regime. I cover what went into building these profiles and how you can help get them connected to the global tree. Plus news from around WikiTree and upcoming events. I have the project pages up on screen while I talk through them. Fairmont Cemetery in Raton, New Mexico: 2,993 profiles created, 3,481 headstone photos still awaiting one. This week's episode is an update on Fairmont Cemetery, the process of building a profile from a headstone photo, plus what's new around WikiTree — the latest Gold Standard profiles now on the home page (mine included!), Hacktoberfest registration, and everything coming up on the calendar. Anatomy of a Good Profile

My uncle Gene's WikiTree profile looked finished for years — dates, a photo, four marriages, nothing else. Then I sat down with the family archive, his DD-214, and two people who actually knew him, and started over. What actually makes a profile good: inline citations, documenting conflicting sources instead of hiding them, and why "finished" doesn't mean "done." I put the actual profile up on screen while I talk through it — if you want to see what I'm describing, the video's on my YouTube channel: @Robinson-27225 Companion blog post: Country Girl Genealogy

    Collaborative Genealogy 101

Why do I do genealogy on a website where anybody can edit my work, instead of a private tree nobody else can touch? Episode one of A Country Girl Rambles: what collaborative genealogy actually means, how I ended up this deep into WikiTree, and what this show is going to be.
