Mufti Hamzah Moola is a South African Islamic scholar, imam, Hafiz of the Quran, youth educator and public speaker known particularly for his work with young Muslims and his use of social media for Islamic outreach. Hamzah Moola was born and raised in Lenasia, South Africa, a community with a well-established tradition of Islamic education and scholarship. He began memorising the Quran at approximately ten years of age and completed his Hifdh, becoming a Hafiz of the Quran. Following his Quranic studies, Moola continued into formal Islamic scholarship. He enrolled at Jamiah Al-Ulum Al-Islamiyyah, where he undertook a six-year Alim course covering the traditional Islamic sciences. His studies included Arabic, Quranic studies, Hadith, Islamic jurisprudence and other branches of Islamic scholarship. He completed the Alim programme in 2020. He subsequently pursued advanced studies in Islamic jurisprudence at the Ifta Department of Darul Uloom Zakariyya in South Africa. Through this specialised programme, Moola studied Fiqh and the principles involved in answering Islamic legal questions. He completed his Ifta studies before Ramadan 2023. His formal Islamic education therefore includes Hifdh of the Quran, completion of an Alim course and specialised Ifta studies. In March 2021, Hamzah Moola began serving as an imam at Quwatul Islam Masjid. Alongside his responsibilities as an imam, he became involved in programmes at mosques and Islamic institutions across South Africa. These engagements allowed him to interact with different Muslim communities and increasingly shaped his focus on working with younger audiences. A significant feature of Mufti Hamzah Moola’s work is his engagement with Muslim youth. Rather than limiting his activities to conventional mosque lectures, he has sought to address young Muslims through accessible talks, informal discussions and digital media. His outreach covers both traditional Islamic subjects and contemporary issues. Programmes associated with Moola have addressed topics including personal productivity, anxiety and depression, Quranic personalities, family life, marriage and lessons from the life of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. This combination of Islamic teaching and practical contemporary themes has helped establish him as a recognisable voice among younger South African Muslims. Hamzah Moola is also associated with the social-media identity 1mansvoice. His use of online platforms has become an important part of his public outreach. Through short-form content and online engagement, he communicates Islamic reminders and discussions in formats that are familiar and accessible to younger audiences. His social-media activities have attracted attention within the South African Muslim community, and he has received community recognition for his contribution to Islamic outreach through digital media. Mufti Hamzah Moola regularly delivers Islamic talks and programmes at mosques and community institutions. Recordings of his lectures have been distributed by South African Islamic organisations and mosques, including Nurul Islam Masjid and Masjid-ul-Furqaan in Houghton. Subjects addressed in his recorded lectures include Islamic productivity and personal development, anxiety and depression, the lives and contributions of the Imams of Qira’at, marriage and the family life of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, youth development, Islamic identity and practical Islamic guidance for contemporary Muslims. His speaking style and choice of subjects reflect his broader focus on presenting Islamic teachings in a way that connects traditional scholarship with the everyday experiences and challenges faced by Muslims today. Hamzah Moola belongs to a younger generation of South African Islamic scholars whose work extends beyond
