Comedy of Errors | Memory Passage- The Last Drop | Act 1 | Scene 1

Our first memory passage for Shakespeare is from our fall play: Comedy of Errors. This passage comes from Act 1, Scene 2 and is spoken by Antipholus of Syracuse. “ He that commends me to mine own content Commends me to the thing I cannot get. I to the world am like a drop of water That in the ocean seeks another drop, Who, falling there to find his fellow forth, Unseen, inquisitive, confounds himself. So I, to find a mother and a brother, In quest of them, unhappy, lose myself.”

Little Hearts Treasure: Ephesians 4:32 | Scripture Memory Part 1

A little Scripture tucked away in the heart can become a treasure carried for a lifetime. 🌿 Welcome to Little Hearts Treasure, a Scripture memory series from The Story House Academy, created especially for little listeners. In Part 1, we’re learning Ephesians 4:32: “Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you.” Through gentle repetition, music, and a short, joyful explanation, children will learn not only how to remember the words of Scripture, but begin to understand what they mean in everyday life—being kind when someone needs a friend, having a tender heart toward others, offering forgiveness, and remembering the incredible forgiveness Jesus has given us. Come back again and again until these beautiful words become familiar enough for your little one to carry with them. Hide it in your heart. Live it every day. Share God's love. History Memory Work: George Washington | Part 1 | Term 1

Who was George Washington before he became the familiar face in our history books? In this episode of History Memory Work from The Story House Academy, we’re learning the story of George Washington through two history memory songs designed to help important names, events, places, and ideas settle into long-term memory. After singing our memory work, we step beyond the facts and meet Washington within his story from a young Virginia surveyor and inexperienced military officer to commander of the Continental Army and eventually the first President of the United States. We will discover that Washington’s story wasn't one of effortless success. It included mistakes, hardship, uncertainty, and years of perseverance. We'll consider his leadership during the American Revolution, the suffering at Valley Forge, his remarkable willingness to surrender power, and the complicated parts of his legacy as well. Most importantly, we'll explore one word that appears again and again in his story: Tenacity. The determination to keep going when the outcome is uncertain and the road ahead is difficult. Because at The Story House Academy, our goal isn't simply to memorize history. We memorize the names and places so that we have somewhere to hang the stories. 🎵 Includes two George Washington memory songs + a short story-based history lesson. The Charge of the Light Brigade | Alfred Lord Tennyson | Poet Study Part 5

Six hundred cavalrymen ride into a valley surrounded by enemy guns. They know something has gone terribly wrong. And still…..they ride. In Part 5 of our Alfred Lord Tennyson Poet Study, we step onto the battlefield of the Crimean War and discover the true event that inspired The Charge of the Light Brigade. We’ll explore the disastrous military order that sent the British Light Brigade charging toward Russian artillery, and then listen to how Tennyson transforms history into poetry. Pay attention to the pounding rhythm of the language: the poem itself seems to gallop. Along the way, we’ll wrestle with some difficult questions about courage, duty, obedience, leadership, sacrifice, and honor. Tennyson does not ask us to pretend the command was wise. Instead, he asks us to remember the extraordinary courage of the men who carried it out. “Theirs not to reason why,
Theirs but to do and die.” And when the charge is over, Tennyson leaves his readers with a command of his own: “Honor the Light Brigade.” Poet Study with Lord Tennyson — Part 5
The Story House Academy | Cecily Moore May use with Ambleside Online Poet Study

The Lady of Shalott | Alfred Lord Tennyson | Poet Study Part 4

On an island surrounded by a river lives a mysterious woman who can see the world, but cannot enter it. In Part 4 of our Alfred Lord Tennyson Poet Study, we enter the strange and beautiful world of The Lady of Shalott (part 1 only) Surrounded by fields, water, towers, and distant Camelot, the Lady lives beneath a mysterious curse, weaving the world she sees reflected through a mirror. But what happens when watching life from a distance is no longer enough? We’ll explore Tennyson’s unforgettable imagery, medieval setting, repetition, symbolism, and the tension between safety and longing, reflection and reality, isolation and participation. More than a mysterious Arthurian tale, The Lady of Shalott gives us something wonderful to wrestle with: Is it enough merely to observe life—or are we meant to step into it? The Flower | Alfred Lord Tennyson | Poet Study Part 3

What happens when you share something beautiful with the world, and then watch the world misunderstand it? In Part 3 of our Alfred Lord Tennyson Poet Study, we explore The Flower, a deceptively simple poem about a man who discovers a beautiful seed, plants it, and watches as others first ridicule it, then imitate it, commercialize it, and eventually cast it aside. Together, we’ll follow Tennyson’s little flower through its strange journey and ask some bigger questions: Why are new ideas so often mocked before they are accepted? What happens when something meaningful becomes fashionable? And should we measure the value of something by whether the crowd happens to love it? This is a poem about beauty, originality, popularity, imitation, and having the courage to value something before everyone else does. The Kraken & Break, Break, Break | Alfred Lord Tennyson | Poetry

Journey beneath the dark waters of Tennyson’s imagination and then onto the cold, gray shores of grief. In this episode of Poetry Term 1 from The Story House Academy, we explore two very different poems by Alfred Lord Tennyson: “The Kraken” and “Break, Break, Break.” First, we descend “far, far beneath in the abysmal sea” to meet Tennyson’s ancient sleeping sea creature. We’ll explore the legends that may have inspired the poem, Tennyson’s fascination with mystery, and what the Kraken might teach us about fear, darkness, hidden things, and what happens when they are finally brought into the light. Then we turn to “Break, Break, Break,” written from Tennyson’s grief following the sudden death of his beloved friend Arthur Hallam. As waves continue breaking, children play, sailors sing, and ships sail toward their haven, Tennyson wrestles with one of grief’s strangest realities: the whole world keeps moving when your own world has changed forever. Along the way, we’ll listen closely to Tennyson’s language, imagery, symbolism, and sound and discover how poetry can sometimes give words to the things we cannot quite say ourselves.
