Shawn Bradford on Personal Transformation + Getting Better Sleep with Yoga Nidra Meditation

Shawn Bradford is a mindfulness teacher, keynote speaker, and a corporate wellness educator. She holds a 500-hour yoga alliance teaching certificate, is a continuing education provider for Yoga Alliance, and has 200 formal hours of meditation training. Shawn also holds a master's in science in Health Promotion with an emphasis in Workplace Wellness.  Shawn loves to inspire her clients and students to weave wellness tools into their day to manage their stress and feel their best! Today I am excited to share a conversation with Shawn Bradford all about a form of guided meditation that has been massively impactful to me called Yoga Nidra.  I originally found Shawn’s Yoga Nidra Meditation class at a yoga studio in Phoenix in 2018 after I had gone through an extremely traumatic event and I had completely stopped sleeping. Not being able to sleep for me was causing panic attacks, destroying my immune system, taking away my ability to drive, and so much more. I tried so many different things to try to get some rest but wasn’t having a lot of luck and then I remembered this yoga nidra meditation class I had been to in the past and how one of the benefits was supposed tobe helping you get better sleep. So I thought I’ll give that a shot and I just remember that night after that first class I was actually able to sleep. I wasn’t sure if it was a coincidence or if it was working but I decided to keep coming and I continued to get better sleep each time and then I noticed I also started to have some big perceptive shifts. Things would happen that I would feel like this situation should be harder than it is but I strangely feel a peace about it. Then I remembered in nidra one of the intentions I had been working with was I am peace. Peace was something I didn’t have for so long and finally I felt it. I had it. I was embodying it and it was in big part because of the nidra.  We get a lot more into detail about how yoga nidra works and it’s benefits in this episode but if you are someone who struggles with insomnia you have to listen to this episode. Also, if you are someone who is trying to make some perspective shifts and shed some limiting beliefs to make change in your life please keep listening and finally if you are simply someone who is curious about meditation and have goals around trying it for the first time or making it a regular practice, this one’s for you!

Writing Romance Novels and Marrying her Twin Flame with Kristin Travis

Today I have a super fun reboot episode to share with romance novelist Kristin Travis! This was one of the very first interviews I recorded, so full disclosure: the audio isn’t as good as it will be in future episodes. But this was one of my absolute favorite conversations, and I knew I wanted it to be the first one I shared this time around. Also, I definitely giggled through the entire interview because Kristin is an absolute delight to chat with, so be prepared for that. Her answer to how she gets through creative blocks was so unique and unexpected that I still can’t get over it. I also love how much growth Kristin has had since we recorded this original episode. She had just written and self-published her first novel, Synodic, when we had this conversation. Since then, the novel has kind of blown up, and she’s gone on to release its sequel, Ecliptic. It’s so cool to look back at this conversation from the beginning of her journey as an author and see that she is really doing the thing! Other fun things we chat about: all things creative process, the level of both determination and delusion it takes to take on a massive creative project like writing a book, what it feels like to be in a flow state, her relationship with her twin flame and husband of 10+ years, and so many other beautiful, juicy things. This was such a fun conversation to have, and I know you’re going to love it. So let’s get into it! Check out Kristin's Instagram here. Find her book Synodic here and Ecliptic here.

    Just Make the Thing

Welcome to the first episode of the Stepping Into Your Magic podcast reboot! After about a year of contemplating whether to bring the podcast back, I finally decided to stop overthinking it and just do the thing. So here we are! In this episode, I share my vision for the Stepping Into Your Magic podcast. At its absolute core, it's about the intersection of mindfulness and creativity. I became super interested in the connection between these two things after I started painting. Painting was something I had wanted to try for years, but I had this weird block around it. That's not for you. You'll be terrible at it. Just stay in your lane and stick to the digital stuff. Then the year I started meditating for the first time (over 10 years ago now!), I also had this really strong urge to start painting. And instead of shutting it down, I decided to just do it. Around the same time, that inner critic voice in my head started to quiet down. It didn't disappear completely, but there was finally a little space between you're probably going to be terrible at this and I really want to try this. And for once, I decided to listen to the second voice. Something meditation has taught me is that a thought is just a thought. I don't always have to listen to what my brain is telling me. Meditation has given me the space to slow down, be present and choose what I want to do with those thoughts. After my own experience, I became super curious about how other people were experiencing this connection between mindfulness and creativity. So I started interviewing a wide range of artists and asking them questions like: Does making art ever feel like a meditation to you? How do you access flow state? Where does your inspiration come from? And what do you do when you hit a creative block? Those are the conversations that made up the original podcast, and I'll be bringing some of them back in this reboot. I'll also be bringing more personal storytelling to the podcast and expanding into conversations about reinvention, healing, motherhood, how to keep creating when your life is incredibly full, and how all this mindfulness stuff actually plays out in real life. Whether you listened to the podcast before or you're hearing it for the first time, I am so, so grateful you're here and can't wait to dive into these conversations together.
