CBS Radio Mystery Theater - The Only Blood

Got something to say to this podcast? Send a voicemail, and you might hear yourself on the next episode! In an east coast city, Anthony Boda, an immigrant shoemaker and store owner, is eating dinner on a Thursday evening. His wife says "You're not hungry, Anthony?" He says "Yes, I'm really very hungry". She says "But, you haven't eaten a bite". Anthony says "I was just thinking". She asks "About what?" He says "Well, I'm not sure". His wife says "Uh, look, you always tell me later. Well, this time tell me sooner". Anthony says "Ten dollars is missing". His wife says "Ten dollars? How is that possible?" Anthony says "Well, you know, thanks to our son Lewis, we now have a cash register in the store". She says "I was always opposed to it". Anthony says "Our boy is right. It's the modern way". His wife says "But when you kept the money in a drawer, nothing was ever...." Anthony says "When we kept the money in a drawer, we never knew. How could we tell? This way. Every time you take in money, it prints on a paper. At the end of the day, the paper tells you how much money you should have". His wife says Oh, well then perhaps the paper is wrong". Anthony says "It's not possible. Now, what troubles me is it's always ten dollars". His wife asks "What do you mean always?" Anthony says "Well, not only is it always ten dollars, but it's always missing on a Friday night". His wife says "I tell you, it's that machine". Anthony says "Well, it's happened for the last six weeks. Could it be that Louis....?" His wife says "Oh, no. Your own son?" Anthony says "I don't know what to think". His wife says "Throw out that machine". The next day, about noon, Anthony says "Go have your lunch, Louis". He says "Pop, I promised the lady she could have her shoes at 1:00 o'clock". Anthony says "No, I'll finish for you. Go. Mama doesn't like it when anybody's late to eat". As Louis is leaving, he meets a man coming into the store. The man says "Hello, Louie". Louis says "Uh, what, what can I do for you, Chuck?" He says "You got to hand over a fin". Louis says "Um, listen, will you talk about this later?" Chuck says "What, later? I'm here now. Get it up". Anthony asks "Who is this man? What does he want?" Chuck says "Introduce me to your old man, Louie. The association likes to know all it's customers".

    Escape - The Red Forest

Got something to say to this podcast? Send a voicemail, and you might hear yourself on the next episode! It had taken Wally Penndel five years, three months, and four days. It had carried him across twenty one states. And then, in the clear water country of Idaho, he found it. That was in the afternoon. The search had led from a lumber town, along a washboard road, and into the forests. There, he found what he was looking for, the secluded shack. After he had finished, Wally started back to his car. Making his way through the forest, he noticed that something was different. The trail that led to the shack seemed to have disappeared. Maybe it was the late sun through the trees, or maybe the tall shadows. The sounds of the forest also seem to have changed. Remembering that he used his last cigarette three or fours hours before, he began to hurry. It was nearly dark when Wally found the road. He came to it about a half a mile below where he parked the car. A half hour later, on the outskirts of a little town, Wally's headlights pick up a girl standing on the side of the road, holding a cheap suitcase and thumbing a ride. Wally pulls over, and the girl asks "Can I get a ride, mister?" Wally says "Sure. Put your case in the back". As they start back on the road, the girl says "Gee, I'm lucky. Not many cars on the road tonight". Wally says "Nah. Been walking long?" She says "Uh huh. My last ride dropped me a mile or so back. I don't guess you'd be going as far as Missoula?" Wally says "Well, sure". She says "Gee, that's swell. I got a job there starting tomorrow. Kind of broke, and buses cost money". Wally says "I know what you mean. Say, if you want to take a nap, it's okay. We've got about a hundred miles to go". She says "Thanks". About fifteen minutes later, Wally sees lights on the road. As he got closer, figures are waving. She says "Are we there already?" Wally says "No, there's something wrong. There's a cop coming this way". As the officer approaches, Wally says "Um, what's the trouble?" The officer says "Plenty. We want you, mister". Wally says "You want me?" Officer says "Yeah. Forest fire. Bad one. We got to have every man we can find".

    Gunsmoke - Brothers

Got something to say to this podcast? Send a voicemail, and you might hear yourself on the next episode! New to Dodge City, brothers Jim and Will Thompson, step into Marshal Dillon's office. Matt says "Morning, boys". Jim says "Morning, sir. Are you the Marshal here in Dodge?" Matt says "Yeah, that's right. My name is Dillon, Matt Dillon". Jim says "Thompson's our name. I'm Jim. This is my brother, Will". Matt says "I'm glad to know you. This my sidekick, Chester Proudfoot". Chester says "Pleased to meet you". Jim says "Mr. Dillon, we're after some information. Will and I just brought a trail herd up from the Pecos country, around 2,000 head. We're holding them down river a few miles". Matt says "Oh, toward Walnut Creek?" Jim says "Yeah, I guess that's what they call it. You see, we had planned to drive them on up toward Wyoming, but we got to thinking, we might sell them here if we could get a fair price". Matt says "You shouldn't have any trouble. The market's good right now". Will says "So we've heard". Jim says "The only thing is, we don't know any buyers here. We were wondering if you might have an idea or two". Matt says "I see. Well, I suggest you go talk to Clem Bates. He runs the bank down on the west end of Front Street". Jim says "Clem Bates, huh?" Matt says "Yeah. He'll know of any buyers that happen to be in town. He might even buy the herd himself". Jim says "Well, we'll go right down and see him now, Mr. Dillon. And uh, much obliged to you, sir. Coming, Will?" He says "Yeah. It's been a pleasure talking to you, Marshal. Thank you". Matt says "Same to you. Goodbye". After the brothers leave, Chester says "Well, they seem like a couple of nice men, Mr. Dillon". Matt says "Yeah, couple of strange ones, Chester. I wonder what they're here for?" Chester says "Why, to sell a herd of cattle. You heard what they said". Matt says "Chester, when's the last time a trail driver came in here and asked me where to sell his cattle? They go to the bank or one of the saloons. They don't come to the jail".

    Frontier Gentleman - The Honkytonkers

Got something to say to this podcast? Send a voicemail, and you might hear yourself on the next episode! J.B. Kendall stayed in Montana Territory hoping for an interview with Sitting Bull or even Crazy Horse, but General Crook's attack across the Tongue River had put an end to that hope, at least for the time being. With a full-fledged Indian war exploding around him, Kendall had no choice but to remain where he was. The settlement, with a normal population of perhaps a hundred, had swollen to four times that number. The saloon keeper, gambler, and others were doing a thriving business, and the most popular spot in town was undoubtedly a honkytonk named the Jug of Blood. Kendall was passing by when the trouble began. The doors flew open and half a dozen brawling men erupted in the street. In sheer self-defense, Kendall became a combatant. In the midst of the fight, a man called Walleye Smith asks Kendall "Hey, who's side are you on, you son of a gun?" Kendall says "My dear fellow, I haven't the slightest idea". Smith says 'You're a good fighter!" As the fight starts to die down, and those still standing are trying to catch their breath, Smith says "Some no good son of a gun was cheating at poker!" Kendall, pointing to others in the fight, says "One of those?" Smith says "How should I know? I wasn't playing. I just heard it all. You know, if there's anything I hate, it's a no good cheating son of a gun". Kendall says "Yes, bad form. I don't blame you". As Kendall starts to leave, Smith says "Hey, what's your hurry? Come on in and have a drink". Kendall says "No, I don't think so. Thank you". Smith says "Aww, come on. There's some mighty pretty gals in there. Jake Connor hired them from back east. They was on their way to Virginia City when a Sioux ruckus held them over". Kendall says "Sorry to hear it. But now, I must be going". Smith says "I'll be a son of a gun if I'll let you move on without seeing the nicest females this side of St. Louis".

The Whistler - The Urge to Kill

Got something to say to this podcast? Send a voicemail, and you might hear yourself on the next episode! Henry Drake and his partner Philip Putnam had started their factory five years ago and had build it into a smooth running, highly profitable organization. But now, the added demands of war have more than tripled the production and the worries as well. Phil was responsible for the financial side of the company and Henry had the expertise to make the day to day decisions. However, lately, something has been happening to Henry. He is beginning to slip. His memory is playing tricks on him. On one particular morning as Henry walked into his office, his secretary, Ethel, says "Good morning, Mr. Drake". Henry says "Oh, morning, Ethel". She says "Mr. Putnam wants to know if you studied those contracts last night". Henry says "Contracts? What contracts?" Ethel says "Why, the ones he gave you last night. You'd said you'd take them home. They must be signed by noon, today". Henry says "Contracts? Why, I don't know what you're talking about. When did Phil give me any contracts?" Ethel says "What? Just before you left last evening". Henry says "Well, that's funny". Ethel asks "Don't you remember?" Henry says "What? Remember? Well, yes. Yes, I do remember now. Yes. Yes, of course". Ethel asks "Well, may I have them?" Henry says "Well, let me see. What on earth did I do with them? Tell Mr. Putnam to step in here, please". Ethel says "Yes, Mr. Drake". She calls him, and a few moments later he steps into Henry's office. Phil says "Good morning, Henry. What's up?" Henry says "It's about those contracts you gave me yesterday evening. Just what were they about?" Phil says "What? Haven't you read them?" Henry says "No, I haven't". Phil says "Good heavens, man. They were supposed to be signed by noon today, and it's 10:00 AM. Where are they?" Henry says "I don't know, Phil. I can't find them. I'm sure I didn't take them home". Phil asks "Well, what did you do after you left here? Where'd you go?" Henry says "Well, I went home. That is, I think I did".

Mr. Chameleon - The Case of the Woman Who Sensed Murder

Got something to say to this podcast? Send a voicemail, and you might hear yourself on the next episode! It is 9:00 at night, and there's a light burning in the office of the Commissioner of Police. He is sitting across the desk from Mr. Chameleon. The Commissioner says "Well, here's the letter, Mr. Chameleon". The Commissioner reads "My dear Commissioner, I have thought long before writing this, but the time has come, when compelled by fear, I am forced to write. I am an old woman but a sane one and many things have occurred in this house which make me believe that some person in it has planned to murder me. I am writing to you, Mr. Commissioner, because my attorney, Mr. Huntington, is in Europe and I have no other place to turn. I have been reading about your Mr. Chameleon and I wondered if he could visit me. I knew his mother and remember him as a lad and I'd feel rather safer in his hands than in those of an ordinary policeman. Signed, Helen Audrey". Chameleon says "Well, Commissioner, I think that a letter like this from Mrs. Audrey may have a very black background". The Commissioner asks "When are you going to see her?" Chameleon says "As soon as I can get there. Mrs. Audrey is one of the richest women in New York. She has a tremendous amount of money, and too many people stand to benefit from her death". Chameleon opens the office door and asks the secretary "Will you get me a squad card and have Detective Sergeant Dave Arnold meet me downstairs at once?" A few minutes later, as the squad car pulls up to residence, Dave says "That's the Aubrey Mansion, Mr. Chameleon. It's all lit up. I guess they're giving a party". Chameleon says "There's only one car, Dave. Look at the license plate. That's a doctor's car, come on". They get out of the car and walk toward the front door. Chameleon says "Now, this looks like the doctor coming out. I beg your pardon, are you the doctor?" He says "I am Dr. Hammond, Mrs. Audrey's physician". Dave asks "Then, Mrs. Audrey is sick?" Dr. Hammond says "Mrs. Audrey is dead".

Got something to say to this podcast? Send a voicemail, and you might hear yourself on the next episode! In the Control Tower at the Rockford Airport, Ken is waiting to take over his nighttime duties as the air traffic controller. Charlie, the day time controller says "Okay, Brother Ken, you can have it. For me, it's been a long day". Ken asks "Has the traffic been heavy?" Charlie says "It started sort of slow, but it's building up. I got three converging on the outer marker and two inbound on the range. It's all here on the board for you". Ken says "Yeah, okay". Charlie says "They're beginning to stack up over Chicago, but uh that's their worry. Yeah, well happy landings, man". Ken says "So long, Charlie". Over the radio, Ken hears "Rockford Tower, this is TWA Flight 70, requesting weather, your field, over". Ken says "Hello TWA 70, this is Rockford, we have stratus clouds, ceiling of 2,000 feet, visibility under 2 miles, smoke, haze, and fog on the ground, over". TWA 70 asks "What is your traffic there, Rockford?" Ken says "Five inbound, inside the 20 mile range, one Convair, and two DC 7s outbound on the red, over". TWA 70 says "Okay, Rockford, appreciate it. This is TWA 70 requesting change to flight plan to land on your field instead of Chicago". Ken says "Roger, TWA 70, I'll notify Chicago and clear you in. Give us a call when you pass the Milbourn Hills, Rockford out". TWA 70 says "Roger, thanks very much". Ken says "Mike, give Chicago a call and tell them their Flight 70 is terminating here". Mike says "Okay, Ken. Will do". Ken gets another call that says "Rockford Tower, this is Beechcraft Bonanza N91457" Ken says "Hello, Beechcraft N91457, this is Rockford Tower". Beechcraft says "I've been homing on your range and apparently my automatic direction finder isn't working right. I think I'm lost". Ken says "Standby, 457. Mike, check the flight file to see if he's on it". Mike says "Right". Beechcraft says "Hello, Rockford. Are you hearing me? If you are, please give me a call". Ken says "This is Rockford, we're reading you fine. What seems to be the trouble with your ADF?" Beechcraft says "I don't know. I'm not too familiar with this equipment".

Whitehall 1212 - The Murder of Peter Amory

Got something to say to this podcast? Send a voicemail, and you might hear yourself on the next episode! Detective Sergeant Max Fischer, of the Ilford Police, is reporting the murder of Mr. Peter James Amory to Chief Inspector David Appriss of Scotland Yard. Fischer says "On the night of October 3rd, at ten minutes before midnight, Mr. Amory was stabbed to death in his home on Kensington Gardens, Ilford, by person or persons unknown. No weapon was found. Mr. John Thomasson and Miss Elizabeth Pool of 7B Oxford Crescent, Ilford, met Mrs. Hildegard Amory, his wife, as she was running down the street screaming. A doctor was summoned, who pronounced the man dead. Mrs. Amory remarked to Police Constable Douglas Greg that she supposed that she would probably be blamed for the husband's death. She'll be at the police station, sir, this morning". Appriss proceeded first to the mortuary to view the body. He had been stabbed three times in the neck. The man of the mortuary said one slash had severed the carotid artery, causing death. Next, Appriss went to the police station to have a talk with Mrs. Amory. After arriving, Fischer asks "Shall I go into the room with you, Chief Inspector?" Appriss says "I wish you would. Yes, please". After the introductions, Mrs. Amory says "I don't know what more I can tell you, Chief Inspector". Appriss says "I'm sorry to be asking you any further questions, Mrs. Amory, but you understand?" She says "Yes, of course". Appriss says "You did not see the assailant, you said". She says "No, Peter had gone". Appriss asks "Your husband?" She says "Yes. My husband had gone ahead on me a few steps to unlock the door. All I remember was a kind of black shadow rising up beside the steps, then hearing Peter cry out". Appriss asks "The other man said nothing?" She says "Nothing at all. He just turned and ran away down the street". Appriss asks "And you?" She says "I'm afraid I was so frozen. I didn't do anything for a second, then I think I screamed and ran away. Fischer says "You didn't tell us before about seeing the man who attacked your husband, Mrs. Amory". She says "Well, I thought I did".
