Unfinished Conversations

Mary Kay Duffy

Unfinished Conversations, hosted by Mary Kay Duffy, is about the conversations we carry—the ones we wish we could still have, the ones we continue within ourselves, and the ones better left unfinished. Through heartfelt (and sometimes hilarious) stories, we explore the people and moments that shaped us and the wisdom they left behind. Because the people we love don’t only live in our memories. They live in who we’ve become. Come for the story. Stay for the wisdom. Leave with hope.

"That Wasn't on the Bingo Card!” — What's Your Unfinished Conversation With Money? | Episode 4

💰 What if your relationship with money is telling a much bigger story about your life? Welcome to Episode 4 of Unfinished Conversations! “That Wasn't on the Bingo Card!” — What's Your Unfinished Conversation With Money? Ohhhh…we went THERE in this episode! 😂 From our earliest memories of money to the beliefs we inherited, the stories we continue telling ourselves, and the financial decisions that shape our lives. I've been broke. I've been wealthy. I've made a LOT of money, and I've made some decisions with it that I wish I could do over. And I'm STILL learning. In this episode, we're exploring: - Where our money stories begin and how childhood shapes our financial beliefs. - The shadow side of abundance—and what happens when abundance becomes avoidance. - The relationship between faith, fear, worthiness, responsibility, and money. - Why financial security matters when life throws us an unexpected curveball. - Why having your OWN money is so important for women. - How financial independence creates the FREEDOM to make choices that are best for you and the people you love. Because here's something I believe with my WHOLE heart… Financial empowerment is at the heart of female empowerment. Having your OWN money isn't selfish. It isn't disloyal. And it isn't about expecting the worst. It's about being prepared to take care of yourself and the people you love, whatever life brings. Divorce. Illness. Loss. An unexpected career change.Sometimes Plan A disappears, and we're left figuring out Plan B. And having financial independence can make Plan B a whole lot more manageable. Don't wait until you NEED financial independence to begin creating it.And yes…there's STILL no luggage on the hearse, people! 😂But maybe we should know what's in the bank before we start packing for the trip! LET'S KEEP THE CONVERSATION GOING!I'd love to hear from YOU: What's your earliest memory of money? What beliefs about money did you inherit from your family? And what money story are you ready to question, change, or finally let go of? Share your thoughts in the comments. We have SO much to learn from one another. ❤️ If this episode resonates with you, please LIKE, COMMENT, SUBSCRIBE, and SHARE it with a woman who might need to hear this conversation. 🎙️ Unfinished Conversations — Episode 4 is NOW STREAMING! ✨ If you’d like the link to watch/listen, comment BINGO below and I’ll send it to you. Don’t Go to the Hardware Store to Buy Apples | Who Gets a Vote in Your Life? | Unfinished Conversations Ep. 3

Who gets a vote in your life? We all seek advice from people we love, trust and respect. But what happens when their fears, experiences, beliefs or even their own shame begin influencing the decisions we make for OUR lives? In Episode 3 of Unfinished Conversations, we’re talking about self-trust, wise counsel, shame, transformation, and one of my favorite sayings: “Don’t go to the hardware store to buy apples.” 🍎🔨 The people who love us may genuinely want to protect us. Their advice may come from the very best intentions. But their story doesn’t have to become ours. Self-trust doesn’t mean refusing to listen. It means staying teachable. Welcoming wise counsel. Being willing to see your blind spots. But knowing where to draw the line between someone else’s perspective and your own truth. And if shame has spent years collecting evidence against you, maybe it’s time to start collecting evidence FOR yourself. Honor. Dignity. Self-trust. Because at the end of the day… Your life is not a public debate.Your calling is not subject to a vote. And your worth is not on trial. “God gave you the gift of life. The gift God wants you to give Him is to live that life the way it is intended.” 🎙️ Welcome to Episode 3 of Unfinished Conversations. Come for the story. Stay for the wisdom. Leave with hope. Whose Voice Is That Anyway? The Conversations We Have With Ourselves | Unfinished Conversations Ep 2

What if the voice running your life isn’t actually yours? In Episode 2 of Unfinished Conversations, I’m turning the conversation inward. We all have a voice inside our heads. But somewhere along the way, that voice can become a collection of everything we’ve experienced...our parents, teachers, relationships, failures, fears, expectations, disappointments, and the things we decided about ourselves before we were old enough to know whether they were even true. And eventually, we can forget to ask: Whose voice is that anyway? In this episode, I share a story from second grade involving a pair of patent leather shoes I absolutely LOVED and a moment I still remember decades later. I explore how seemingly small experiences can become stories we carry about ourselves: I’m too much. I’m not enough. Don’t be too loud. Don’t disappoint anyone. Stay where it’s safe. I also talk about the difference between our social self and authentic self and what can happen when we become so focused on being accepted, successful, liked, or understood that we stop hearing what we actually want. And then there’s the mental garbage. 🗑️😂 The old stories. The assumptions. The worst-case scenarios. The past failures we use to predict our future. Our minds may think they’re protecting us, but sometimes the conversations that make us feel safe are the very ones keeping us from fully living. So I’m learning to do something different: NOTICE IT.QUESTION IT.DELETE IT.REPLACE IT. Not every thought deserves a seat at your table. Not every belief you’ve carried deserves to come with you. And not every unfinished conversation needs to continue. Maybe remembering who you are isn’t about becoming someone new. Maybe it’s about getting quiet enough to recognize which voice was yours before the world got so loud. And perhaps the question isn’t, “How do I know how this will turn out?” Maybe it’s simply: “Am I willing to find out?” 🎙️ Welcome to Episode 2 of Unfinished Conversations. Come for the story. My Brother Michael | 25 Yrs Later: The Conversation That Never Ended | Unfinished Conversations Ep 1

What if losing someone doesn’t mean the conversation has to end? In the very first episode of Unfinished Conversations, I’m beginning with the biggest unfinished conversation of my life: my brother, Michael. On September 11, 2001, Michael died in the World Trade Center. I was 27 years old. Now, 25 years later, I have lived almost as much of my life without my brother physically here as I had with him. But here’s what those 25 years have taught me: Michael never stopped being my brother. And our conversation never really ended. In this episode, I share what it has looked like to carry Michael with me through grief, love, laughter, faith and life. I talk about the dragonflies that became our own little language, the moments I can still hear his voice guiding me, and the peace I’ve found in realizing that sometimes we already know exactly what the people we love would say. And I share something I know with absolute certainty: If someone offered to take away all of the grief on the condition that I also had to give back the 27 years I had Michael as my brother…I wouldn’t make that trade. Ever. I choose the 27 years.I choose the love.I choose my brother. Because the people we love don’t only live in our memories. They live in us. Maybe that’s the hope inside our unfinished conversations. We don’t always get the ending we wanted. We don’t always get to say everything we wanted to say. And sometimes there simply isn’t closure. But we can still move forward. We can carry the wisdom. We can carry the laughter. We can carry the love. And sometimes, we discover that the conversation we thought was unfinished was simply waiting for us to understand the rest of it. So for Episode One, there was only one place I could begin. This one’s for you, Bro. ❤️ Welcome to Unfinished Conversations. Come for the story. Stay for the wisdom.
