Episode 6: Everything's Connected: As Above, So Below & Why Disconnection Is The Root of Narcissism

Before astrology was a horoscope in a magazine, it was a way of understanding our place within the cosmos. This episode explores ‘as above, so below’, the ego, synchronicity, and the possibility that the universe isn't a collection of disconnected events at all, but a web of patterns we are already part of. In Episode 6 of For Goddess Sake, Rebecca goes beneath the surface of astrology to ask a much bigger question: how does astrology actually work? She explores why astrology can be so confronting to the ego, particularly our deeply held belief that we are separate individuals who are completely in control of our own lives. Because astrology asks us to look up and consider that we are part of something much bigger: planetary cycles, lunar rhythms, seasons and patterns that existed long before we did. This episode moves between ancient philosophy, psychology, archetypal astrology and some of the theories that have been proposed to explain our relationship with the cosmos. Rebecca explores the Hermetic principle ‘as above, so below’, Carl Jung's theory of synchronicity, the zodiac as one whole expressed through twelve archetypal principles, planetary cycles as a kind of ‘cosmic clock’, and even ideas around quantum entanglement and neutrinos. Rather than arguing for one single mechanism, she explores the possibility that different theories may simply be describing different aspects of the same underlying relationship. Rebecca also breaks down the zodiac as a cycle of consciousness, moving from Aries and emergence through to Pisces and dissolution, and explains how the four elements and three modes create the twelve signs. Rather than reducing ourselves to ‘I'm a Leo’ or ‘I'm a Pisces’, she explores the idea that we contain all twelve archetypes, each representing a different movement within the larger cycle of life. Underneath it all is a bigger question: what happens when we stop seeing ourselves as separate from the universe and start recognising ourselves as an expression of it? Because perhaps astrology isn't about the planets causing things to happen to us. Perhaps it's about learning to recognise the patterns that are already there. What You'll Learn in This Episode Why astrology can be so confronting to the ego, and what our rejection of it might reveal about our relationship with certainty and controlThe deeper meaning of ‘as above, so below’ and the relationship between the macrocosm and the microcosmWhy Rebecca believes you are not separate from the system you're trying to understandThe difference between astrology as cause and effect and astrology as a language of correspondence and synchronicityCarl Jung's theory of synchronicity and the idea that inner psychological states and outer events can mirror one another without one causing the otherThe zodiac as one whole expressed through twelve archetypal principlesWhy your birth chart contains much more than your Sun sign — and why we contain all twelve archetypesThe twelve signs as a cycle of consciousness, from emergence through embodiment, relationship, transformation, meaning, creation and ultimately dissolutionHow the four elements and three modes create the twelve-sign zodiacThe idea of planetary cycles as a ‘cosmic clock’, including the approximately 12-year Jupiter cycle and 29-year Saturn cycleThe different theories people have proposed for how astrology might work, including gravity, solar influence, synchronicity, quantum entanglement and neutrinosWhy Rebecca doesn't think there is necessarily one single explanation for our relationship with the cosmosThe repeating patterns we see throughout nature, spirals, cycles, rhythms and branching formsHow astrology connects back to the Goddess Brain and the balance between pattern, logic, intuition and meaningAnd the question: ‘If I'm connected to the cosmos, what could the cosmos be showing me?’If you loved this episode sign up to the waitlist for Sub Rosa, a mystery school initiation journey with a difference, without hierarchy. Episode 5: Mother Moon: The Original Feminine Timekeeper

Before clocks, before calendars, there was the moon. This episode explores lunar timekeeping, moon cycles, and why time itself used to be feminine. Before solar calendars standardized time into something a centralized authority could issue and control, the moon was humanity's original clock. In Episode 5 of For Goddess Sake, Rebecca traces how lunar cycles governed everything from ancient calendars (the word "month" literally comes from "moon") to coral spawning on the Great Barrier Reef, to lion hunting patterns in Tanzania and makes the case that the shift from lunar to solar time wasn't just a technical upgrade. It was a shift from a communal, visible, feminine-coded rhythm to a linear, authority-controlled one. This episode moves fluidly between mythology, hard science, and astrology. Rebecca covers moon goddesses like Selene, Artemis, and Hecate; the peer-reviewed research showing moonlight measurably alters plant gene expression; and the ongoing (if weakening) research linking women's menstrual cycles to the lunar cycle, weakening, she argues, likely due to artificial light disrupting our ability to sense the moon at all. She also breaks down how to actually work with the moon: dark moon rest, new moon intention-setting, full moon culmination, and the elemental quality of the moon's zodiac sign (water, fire, earth, air) as a tool for understanding your own emotional weather. Underneath it all is a bigger question Rebecca keeps returning to: what would it look like to build a world that centers the moon's territory of nurturing, mothering, rest, cyclical time, instead of treating it as an afterthought to sun-coded achievement and growth? What You'll Learn in This Episode Why the moon, not the sun, was humanity's original calendar across unconnected civilizationsThe real reason solar calendars replaced lunar ones and it wasn't just about farmingHow coral spawning, marine worm mating, and lion hunting patterns all sync to the lunar cycleThe peer-reviewed research showing moonlight measurably alters plant gene expressionThe mythology of Selene, Artemis, and Hecate, and what each phase of the moon representsWhy your moon sign in astrology may say more about your inner emotional world than your sun signHow the moon in your birth chart reflects your relationship to being mothered, and how you mother yourselfThe research (and its recent weakening) linking menstrual cycles to the lunar cycleThe difference between a red moon cycle (bleeding on the full moon) and a white moon cycle (bleeding on the new moon)A practical framework for working with the moon: dark moon rest, new moon intention, full moon culmination, and the four elemental moon qualities (water, fire, earth, air)If you loved this episode sign up to the waitlist for Sub Rosa, a mystery school initiation journey with a difference - without hierarchy. Episode 2: Before the Fences: Goddess Culture, Matriarchy & the Birth of Patriarchy

Before Adam and Eve, before land ownership, women were revered as sacred. This episode traces goddess culture, matriarchy, and how patriarchy actually began. Episode Summary Picture a cave wall lit by firelight and carved into the stone, is a woman's body: full-hipped, full-breasted, faceless. She is not a portrait of any one woman, but a symbol, representing all women. Archaeologists have pulled thousands of these carvings and goddess figurines from the ground across Europe and the Near East, some over 20,000 years old, long before Adam and Eve, long before humanity needed a story explaining why women were "less than." In Episode 2 of For Goddess Sake, Rebecca goes back before the fences, before agriculture, before land ownership, before inheritance, to a time when the feminine was revered as a matter of plain observation, not belief. Women bled on a cyclical rhythm and didn't die. Women birthed life from their own bodies with no explanation available except that it looked like magic. Women's bodies mirrored the Earth itself: fertile, cyclical, capable of producing life and abundance. Reverence for the feminine wasn't a fight anyone had to win,  it simply was. So what changed? This episode traces a compelling, non-conspiratorial theory: the shift from foraging to farming introduced something entirely new. Ownership and with it, the problem of paternity certainty. Rebecca walks through how marriage, chastity culture, seclusion, and the double standards around infidelity weren't invented out of malice, but engineered to solve one specific anxiety: knowing whose bloodline a child belonged to. From there, she traces how that same logic of ownership and control expanded into capitalism, colonisation, and the erasure of goddess traditions and healers, and why, now, the goddess is making her way back. What You'll Learn in This Episode Why prehistoric cave art and Venus figurines depicted women as symbols of fertility and sacred mystery. The archaeological work of Marija Gimbutas and what it reveals about goddess culture in Neolithic EuropeWhy reverence for the feminine may have been the default state of early human society, instead of a utopian mythHow the shift from foraging to farming introduced land ownership, and with it, an entirely new social problemThe real mechanism behind the birth of patriarchy: paternity certainty, not a deliberate plot against womenHow marriage, chastity culture, dowries, and restricted mobility for women were tools built to solve that problemThe throughline from ownership → inheritance → capitalism → colonizationWhy goddess traditions and wise women were actively erased, not just forgottenWhy the goddess is resurfacing now, and what yin and yang balance has to do with itHow to reframe patriarchy's origin story as fear calcified into normal, rather than something inevitableStay connected: 📷 Instagram: @therosealmanac ✍️ Read more on Substack: For Goddess Sake 🌹 Explore readings, offerings & more: www.therosealmanac.com

Episode 3: Where the Hell Are the Women? Why Eve & The Marys Serve A Purpose in Christianity

Christianity & the Distortion & Erasure of Women: Eve, Mother Mary & Mary Magdalene  "There are no girl parts to play." That's what Rebecca's daughter Zoe said about her school's Easter play, and it sparked the walk-to-school conversation that this whole podcast (and Rebecca's in progress book) was born from.  In Episode 3 of For Goddess Sake, Rebecca takes on Christianity directly, as the operating system underneath modern Western society, whether you set foot in a church or not. Starting with Eve, who was the template patriarchy built every subsequent "difficult woman" from, Rebecca traces how women's near-total absence from Scripture wasn't proof they didn't matter, but proof of who was holding the pen. She unpacks the real, largely untold picture of Jesus's ministry: one that was structurally and financially built on the backs of independent women. Then she goes deep on the two women history split the feminine into. The impossibly pure Virgin Mary, and Mary Magdalene, whose reputation was rewritten by a 6th-century Pope and only officially corrected by the Vatican in 1969 and further in 2016. This episode makes the case that the "Virgin and the Fallen Woman" isn't ancient history, it's a sorting mechanism still running underneath purity culture, the trad wife movement, and the instinct to doubt women's testimony today. It closes with an invitation into Rebecca's new offering, Sub Rosa, a six-month mystery school journey into the feminine archetypes. What You'll Learn in This Episode Why Eve became the template for how women's judgment gets treated as the crimeHow literacy, power, and who "held the pen" shaped which women's stories survivedThe real, largely untaught picture of women funding and structurally supporting Jesus's ministryWhy Mary, Mother of Jesus became a purity standard no real woman could reachThe suppressed story of Mary Magdalene. A powerful healer, first witness to the resurrection, and possibly far more central to Jesus's ministry than church history admitsHow Pope Gregory I's 6th-century sermon rebranded Mary Magdalene as a "sinner" for 14 centuries, with no textual basisThe quiet 1969 and 2016 Vatican corrections that restored Mary Magdalene's true role, including her title "Apostle to the Apostles"How the Virgin/Fallen Woman split still operates today, from purity culture to the trad wife movementWhy women's testimony still gets met with "doubt first, corroborate later"An invitation into Sub Rosa, Rebecca's new six-month mystery school for reclaiming the feminine archetypes. Episode 4 - The Goddess, Priestess & Witch. The Evolution (and Erasure) of the Feminine Wisdom Keeper

From revered goddess to executed witch, this episode traces how the feminine wisdom holder was edited, managed, then cast out. And why she's returning now. Episode Summary Across history, there's a pattern that keeps repeating: a woman holds sacred knowledge, attains power and reverence, and then, gradually, she is diminished, managed, and cast out. In Episode 4 of For Goddess Sake, Rebecca traces that pattern through three archetypes: the goddess, the priestess, and the witch, and reveals how each one represents the same feminine wisdom, just further and further from the center of society. Rebecca opens by showing how goddess worship and patriarchy weren't sequential, they overlapped. Powerful goddesses like Athena, Artemis, and the Vestal cult didn't disappear under patriarchal rule; they were edited, stripped of maternal and sexual autonomy, or paired with a more powerful male god as consort. She contrasts this with Hindu Shakti traditions, where the goddess is the supreme, unmediated source of power, and asks why that still didn't guarantee real-world power for actual women. From there, the episode moves to the priestess, women like the Vestal Virgins and the Oracle at Delphi, who held genuine institutional authority, but only on condition of surrendering their bodily autonomy. And finally, to the witch. The wise women, midwives, and healers pushed to the edges of the village, stripped of official sanction, and ultimately targeted in the witch trials, where an estimated 40,000–60,000 people, overwhelmingly women, were executed. Rebecca connects this directly to the "old wives' tale," the rise of industrialised (and eventually Big Pharma) medicine, and why so many women today still feel embarrassed to admit they read tarot or believe in the moon. What You'll Learn in This Episode Why goddess worship and patriarchy coexisted for thousands of years rather than one replacing the otherHow goddesses like Athena and Artemis were stripped of maternal and sexual power to make them "safe"Why Hindu Shakti traditions, where the goddess holds supreme power, still didn't guarantee real power for womenHow Roman and Celtic cultures absorbed and reinterpreted conquered goddesses rather than erasing themThe hidden trade-off behind priestess power — using the Vestal Virgins and the Oracle at Delphi as case studiesWhy Rebecca questions whether reclaiming the modern "priestess" title reclaims wisdom, or reclaims hierarchyThe real target of the witch trials: midwives, herbalists, widows, and women who owned propertyThe role of the Malleus Maleficarum in codifying and justifying the persecution of womenHow women's embodied knowledge became "old wives' tales" as medicine became professionalised, and later industrialisedWhy the instinct to hide your tarot cards or downplay your intuition is a survival response passed down, not a personal quirkIf you loved this episode sign up to the waitlist for Sub Rosa, a mystery school initiation journey with a difference - without hierarchy. Episode 1: Feminine Wisdom & The Part of Your Brain They Taught You To Ignore

For Goddess Sake Podcast | Episode 1 The brain the patriarchy told you to ignore. Ever known something you couldn't explain? In Ep. 1 of For Goddess Sake, Rebecca unpacks the "goddess brain", your intuition, and why we stopped trusting it. Episode Summary Have you ever known something you couldn't explain, maybe a gut feeling, a 3.33am flash of insight, a knowing in your body that logic couldn't back up? In this founding episode of For Goddess Sake, host Rebecca introduces the concept of the goddess brain: the intuitive, symbolic, pattern-reading intelligence that humans relied on for most of our history, and that women, in particular, have carried forward through generations of mothering, healing, and survival. This episode lays the philosophical foundation for the whole show. Rebecca traces how logos (logical, linear, "prove it", evidence needed thinking) was gradually crowned the only legitimate way of knowing, and how that shift ran parallel to the suppression of women's authority, from midwives and healers to astrologers and so-called witches. She explores the difference between masculine and feminine energetics (not gender), why ancient cultures across the globe. From Egypt to the Vedic tradition to Siberian shamanism, independently developed rituals to quiet the logical mind and access deeper intuitive knowing, and why the modern meditation and wellness boom might actually be a mass reawakening of exactly that. Expect goddess culture, brain science, astrology's forgotten roots in mathematics, and a compelling case for why it's time to stop apologising for how you know what you know. What You'll Learn in This Episode What the "goddess brain" actually means, and why it isn't the opposite of intelligenceThe real (and often oversimplified) science behind "left brain vs. right brain" thinkingWhy intuitive, right-brain knowing was disproportionately carried by women throughout historyHow logos (reason, structure, proof) became culturally crowned as the only valid way of knowingThe surprising, science-backed story of how Einstein's breakthroughs came through intuition, not equationsHow the witch trials and the demotion of astrology were part of the same cultural shift that silenced feminine ways of knowingThe difference between masculine and feminine energy as modes of being rather than gender categoriesWhy ancient cultures across Egypt, India, Siberia, Mongolia, and the Americas all independently discovered the same tools (drumming, chanting, rhythm) to access deeper intuitionWhy the mainstream rise of meditation and wellness may be a collective right-brain reawakeningHow to start trusting the parts of yourself you were trained to distrustStay connected: 📷 Instagram: @therosealmanac ✍️ Read more on Substack: For Goddess Sake 🌹 Explore readings, offerings & more: www.therosealmanac.com
