At 51, I'm Done Carrying Other People's Emotions

Emotions and feelings are real, and they affect each of us. But when unmanaged emotions get projected outward into professional and personal settings, other people end up paying the cost. Recorded on a walk through my neighborhood in Osaka, this episode is a personal reflection on turning 51 and drawing a hard line. Over the years, getting caught in the fallout of other people’s emotional volatility has cost me professional standing, social standing, and real financial security. In this episode, I talk about: * The Reality of “Safe Spaces”: Why the outside world cannot be curated to fit individual comfort, and why no one else can build your safe space for you. * The Collateral Damage: How unchecked emotions show up in workplaces and personal relationships, putting other people’s careers and well-being at risk. * The Work of Self-Regulation: Why dealing with vulnerability is difficult internal work—and why expecting others to absorb that weight is unreasonable and unfair. * Turning 51: Making the conscious decision to leave that baggage behind, protect your peace, and refuse to pay for situations you didn’t create. As I enter this next year of life, I’m not carrying other people’s unresolved emotions forward into how I work, who I associate with, or who I am.
