Deadbeat Mom: Parenting A Child Whose Own Mother Refuses To

A darkly funny, painfully true account of unexpectedly raising someone else’s child while navigating an absent mother, family court, and a system that seems far more prepared for a deadbeat dad than a deadbeat mom. Deadbeat moms may be rare, but yet, here we are...

EP 008: The One-Star Yelp Review From The Zero-Star Mom

Welcome back to another episode of Deadbeat Mom, where parenting is apparently optional, accountability is considered harassment, and somehow I'm the villain for expecting a mother to spend time with her own child. This week, we're diving deeper into the Veronica Cinematic Universe, where a court-ordered parenting app becomes an insurmountable obstacle, a school backpack becomes a national emergency, and Veronica continues her lifelong commitment to making absolutely everything my fault. But the real star of this episode? A one-star Yelp review Veronica left for my small business, using my daughter's name to conceal her identity, while making an absolutely disgusting and false accusation against me involving child sexual abuse. Unfortunately for Veronica, changing your public display name doesn't necessarily change the name attached to your email notifications. Oops. We'll talk about the lengths Veronica went to in an apparent attempt to damage my reputation, the hypocrisy of accusing everyone of keeping Marco from her while refusing to follow the simplest parenting requirements, and how I somehow became the most hated person in her universe simply by expecting her to be a mother. Because apparently, in Veronica's world, I'm the problem for wanting her to parent the child she gave birth to. You really can't make this shit up. Come for the parenting fails. Stay for the digital receipts. And remember, at the end of the day, I just want to laugh at it. #DeadbeatMom #VeronicaCinematicUniverse #ParentingFails #TrueStory #PodcastDrama

EP 007: Veronica's Exchange Fumble Of The Week: Flaky Friday, Shady Saturday

Just when we thought Veronica had exhausted every possible excuse for avoiding her court-ordered parenting time, she apparently decided to expand her résumé to include amateur hide-and-seek champion and pathological b******t artist. 🏆 This week, Grandma and Marco arrive at the designated exchange location, ready to hand over the parenting responsibilities Veronica seems so determined to avoid. There’s just one tiny problem. VERONICA IS HIDING. 👀 Not metaphorically. Not figuratively. This woman is apparently waiting until her own child LEAVES before making an appearance. And when Veronica attempts to explain herself, she tells a lie so spectacularly stupid that it practically comes with its own confession. Unfortunately for Veronica, timestamps exist, screenshots exist, and basic math is still legal in all 50 states. 📱🤡 This week, we’re breaking down another spectacular parenting exchange failure, the ridiculous excuse that exposed it, and the increasingly absurd lengths Veronica appears willing to go to avoid spending time with the child she insists she wants to see. Because in the Veronica Cinematic Universe, parenting isn’t a responsibility. It’s an inconvenience requiring elaborate escape plans. 🔥 AND COMING UP NEXT... You might think that after all this drama, Veronica would finally settle in and enjoy some quality time with Marco. YOU WOULD BE WRONG. Because just 22 HOURS after finally receiving her child, Veronica is already out and about, apparently attempting to unload Marco and her parenting responsibilities AGAIN. Twenty-two hours, people. Not even a full day. Apparently, motherhood comes with a shorter return window than most Amazon purchases. 📦💀 Stay tuned. The VCU has officially entered its next level of ridiculous. #DeadbeatMom #VeronicaCinematicUniverse #FlakyFridayShadySaturday #ParentingFails #CaughtInALie

EP 006: Veronica's Down With O.P.P. - Other People's Parenting (Yeah, You Know Her...)

🎶 You down with OPP? YEAH, YOU KNOW HER! 🎶 We’re kicking things off with our weekly check-in of WILL SHE OR WON’T SHE?! Because in the Veronica Cinematic Universe, court-ordered parenting time is apparently more of a suggestion than an actual obligation. It’s Thursday. The excuses are warming up. Friday’s looking questionable. Saturday’s anybody’s guess. And somewhere in the middle of this scheduling shitshow, the rest of us are expected to remain on standby until Veronica decides whether motherhood fits into her weekend plans. 🚗💨 Then we’re getting into the inspiration behind this week’s episode: Naughty by Nature’s legendary OPP. Except around here, it stands for OTHER PEOPLE’S PARENTING. And Veronica? She’s been down with OPP since before it was cool. Apparently, I’m qualified to handle the schoolwork, appointments, daily responsibilities, emotional support, and approximately 97% of the actual parenting. But having my name on official school paperwork? ABSOLUTELY F*****G NOT. 🚫📋 Because Veronica doesn’t necessarily want to DO the parenting. She just wants to make sure nobody mistakes the person actually doing it for someone important. All the authority. None of the accountability. And a full-time unpaid substitute mother who apparently needs to stay in her lane while simultaneously driving the entire f*****g bus. 🚌💀 Welcome back to the VCU, where the rules are made up, the excuses never end, and the only thing Veronica consistently shows up for is an opportunity to make everyone else’s life more difficult. 🎧 Episode 006 is here. And yes, Veronica is STILL down with OPP. #DeadbeatMom #VeronicaCinematicUniverse #OtherPeoplesParenting #StepmomLife #ParentingFuckery

EP 005: Veronica Discovers 'Deadbeat Mom' *GASP*: An In-Depth-ish Analysis

Welcome to Episode 5, where the Veronica Cinematic Universe delivers a plot twist absolutely nobody ordered: Veronica found the podcast. And, apparently, she has thoughts. Lots of them. 📱💥 So naturally, we’re going to discuss those thoughts. Because if you’re going to voluntarily subscribe to a podcast about yourself and then provide fresh source material, it would be downright rude of me not to acknowledge your contribution. Among Veronica’s concerns: my age, which she appears significantly more invested in than I am. Apparently I’m 55 now. I’m not, but at this point my joints have stopped demanding a correction. Meanwhile, I’m over here living my glamorous middle-aged existence, raising somebody else’s kid, hauling snacks around, sitting at trampoline parks, and slowly morphing into my dog, while Veronica keeps tabs on the number of candles allegedly required for my birthday cake. 🎂👵🏻 We’ll also revisit one of my more embarrassing character flaws: optimism. Specifically, the absolutely ridiculous moment when I apparently thought I might someday receive an apology from Veronica for allegedly shattering my car window. Yes, an apology. From Veronica. I’ll give everyone a moment to recover from the secondhand embarrassment. Apparently advanced age has finally begun affecting my judgment. So some popcorn 🍿 and join me as we perform an unnecessarily thorough analysis of Veronica’s podcast review, my rapidly deteriorating dignity, and the beautiful irony of being accused of obsession by someone who has apparently been listening closely enough to provide notes. And finally, to our newest listener… Veronica, welcome to Deadbeat Mom. 💕🎙️ We’re so happy you found us. Make yourself comfortable. There’s plenty more where this came from. #DeadbeatMomPodcast #VeronicaCinematicUniverse #ParentingHumor #StepMomLife #PodcastDrama FACEBOOK GROUP:  https://www.facebook.com/share/g/1G7Z4D2W1T/?mibextid=wwXIfr INSTAGRAM: https://www.instagram.com/deadbeatmompodcast?stkn=MWU3eWppd3UwZjVnNQ%3D%3D&utm_source=qr EMAIL:  deadbeatmompodcast@gmail.com

EP 004: It's Friday. Do You Know Where Your Mother Is?

Friday. The end of the workweek. The beginning of the weekend. A day generally welcomed by the human population.  Unless, apparently, you’re Veronica and Friday comes with the horrifying expectation that you participate in parenting your own child. Since school started, we have had seven Fridays: August 14, 21, 28, September 4, 11, 18, and 25.  And somehow, against mathematical odds that should probably be studied by NASA, Veronica has managed to turn Every. Single. One. into some fresh new interpretation of a court order.  Seven Fridays. Seven problems. A perfect attendance record, if the class is Contempt of Court 101. There’s refusing to be there. Being late. Not coming outside. Sending somebody else. Changing plans. Creating confusion. And, of course, refusing to use the court-ordered parenting app, because apparently communicating with your child’s father through the exact method a judge ordered is simply too oppressive for a woman whose schedule already seems dangerously overburdened by avoiding responsibility. At this point, Friday night parenting exchanges have become less of a custody arrangement and more of a weekly game show called WHERE THE F*CK IS VERONICA?  And the grand prize?  Documentation. So. Much. Documentation. Because while Veronica appears to believe court orders are more like those suggested serving sizes on a bag of chips, the rest of us have been keeping receipts. In this episode of Deadbeat Mom, we’re taking a magical journey through seven consecutive Fridays of FULL of b******t and examining how one woman can repeatedly encounter the exact same court order and somehow remain surprised that it continues to apply to her.  And yes, I’ll admit it: there is a tiny, petty little corner of my soul that is positively thrilled at the idea of eventually watching someone explain this impressive collection of alleged violations to a judge. Will there be sanctions? Fines? Contempt proceedings? Something more serious?  I have no idea.  But I do know one thing.  Next Friday is coming.  It always does.  And somewhere, an analog clock is already making Veronica nervous. EP 003: Veronica The Vandal

Four days.  That is how long Veronica knew where I lived before I walked downstairs one evening and discovered that the rear passenger-side window of my car had been smashed to absolute shit.  Now, am I saying Veronica did it? No. Because unlike Veronica, I understand that accusations generally work better when accompanied by evidence. What I am saying is that my car had somehow managed to survive its entire existence without being randomly attacked…right up until Veronica learned my address. Four. Days. Earlier. A coincidence? Absolutely. And I’m sure somewhere a detective is currently closing a case because I’ve cracked the concept of statistical probability.  But here’s where our little coincidence puts on a fake mustache and becomes even more interesting: this would not exactly have been Veronica’s first venture into automotive arts and crafts. Just a couple months earlier, Marco’s dad and I had committed an unforgivable act of parental terrorism: we went out of town for four days. Which meant Veronica was forced to endure the unimaginable burden of spending four entire days responsible for… …her own f*****g child. Naturally, she was furious.  And shortly after that, Marco’s dad discovered that someone had lovingly carved Marco’s name into the paint of his 1984 Celica Supra.  Nothing says “I’m angry that you made me take care of my son” quite like vandalizing his father’s vintage car with the child’s own name.  It’s subtle. It’s sophisticated. It’s basically the criminal equivalent of signing the guest book.  So when my window mysteriously exploded four days after Veronica finally learned where I lived, did I immediately know she did it? Nope. Did I have suspicions? Well… Welcome to Episode Three: Veronica the Vandal, where apparently parenting is optional, emotional regulation is a luxury, and somewhere in town a perfectly innocent car window got dragged into a custody dispute it never asked to be part of.  Because nothing prepared me for helping raise somebody else’s child quite like realizing I might also need to budget for auto glass.
