Trapped Abroad in Domestic Violence - Military Domestic Violence

Episode 7: Trapped Abroad | Domestic Violence & Military Domestic Violence ⚠️ Content Warning: This episode discusses domestic violence, physical abuse, and psychological manipulation. What does it look like to be trapped in an abusive relationship when you're thousands of miles away from home? In this episode, I share my experience of living in the UK for four years while navigating domestic violence, manipulation, and the psychological entrapment that made leaving feel almost impossible. From threats about my ability to return home to the lies that kept me feeling powerless, I talk about how abuse can extend far beyond physical violence. Sometimes, the chains that keep you trapped aren't physical. They're built through fear, control, isolation, and the belief that you have no way out. I also share how being overseas, away from my support system, made it even harder to see a way forward—and how everything began to change when I finally made it back to the States. Because you don't have to be physically locked in to feel trapped. If you've ever questioned why someone stays in an abusive relationship, I hope this episode helps you understand the psychological side of domestic violence and why leaving isn't always as simple as it seems. 🎙️ EmpowerHER: Becoming HER — real stories of survival, healing, and finding your strength again. Discard in Domestic Violence: Emotional Abuse

What is the discard in a narcissistic relationship? The painful reality of narcissistic abuse and emotional abandonment. In this episode of EmpowerHER: Becoming HER, I’m sharing my personal experience of being discarded by my abusive ex-husband for another woman. The narcissistic discard can leave you questioning your worth, wondering how someone who once love-bombed you and made you feel like the center of their world could suddenly replace you as if you never mattered. When you’ve experienced emotional abuse, manipulation, and a trauma bond, being discarded can feel devastating. You may replay the relationship, compare yourself to the other person, and desperately search for answers to questions that may never have satisfying explanations. But healing begins when you stop looking to the person who hurt you to explain your worth. In this episode, I’m opening up about the emotional impact of being discarded in an abusive relationship and sharing another part of my journey through domestic abuse recovery, healing, and finding my strength again. If you’ve experienced narcissistic abuse, a painful breakup, or the devastating cycle of a trauma bond, this conversation is for you. You are not alone, and your worth was never determined by how someone treated you. 🎙️ Listen to EmpowerHER: Becoming HER for honest conversations about narcissistic abuse recovery, emotional healing, and becoming the woman you were always meant to be. 🤍 #NarcissisticAbuse #NarcissisticDiscard #TraumaBond #EmotionalAbuseRecovery #DomesticAbuseRecovery

Trauma Bonds: How They are Formed and How to Break Free

What Is a Trauma Bond? How Love Bombing, Emotional Abuse, and Intermittent Reinforcement Keep You Stuck Why is it so hard to leave someone who hurts you? Why can you know a relationship is unhealthy and still crave the person who caused you pain? In this episode of EmpowerHER: Becoming HER, we’re talking about trauma bonding, how trauma bonds form, and why leaving an emotionally abusive or toxic relationship can feel almost impossible—even when you know you deserve better. Drawing from my own experience in an abusive marriage, I’m breaking down how the cycle of love bombing, intense affection, manipulation, emotional abuse, and intermittent reinforcement can create a powerful emotional attachment that keeps you coming back for more. When love and pain become intertwined, the very person hurting you can start to feel like the person you need for comfort, validation, and relief. In this episode, we explore: What a trauma bond is and how it develops How love bombing creates intense emotional attachment The connection between narcissistic abuse, emotional abuse, and trauma bonding Why the cycle of affection, rejection, and reconciliation can be so difficult to break Why you can miss someone who hurt you and still know they aren't good for you How to begin breaking a trauma bond, rebuilding your self-worth, and choosing yourself again If you’ve ever wondered why you keep going back to a toxic relationship, why you miss an abusive partner, or why walking away feels harder than staying, this episode is for you. You are not weak for struggling to leave. You are not foolish for missing someone who hurt you. And you are not broken because healing takes time. Sometimes, understanding the bond is the first step toward breaking it. This is about more than leaving a relationship. It’s about finding your way back to yourself. You deserve a love that doesn't require you to abandon yourself to keep it. Welcome to EmpowerHER: Becoming HER—a podcast about healing, strength, self-worth, and becoming the woman you were always meant to be.

Coercive Control - Consequences Wrote The Rules

EPISODE 4: COERCIVE CONTROL | EMPOWERHER: BECOMING HER 🎙️ Abuse doesn’t always start with a raised hand. Sometimes, it starts with silence. In this episode, I’m talking about coercive control — the gradual process of using fear, punishment, manipulation, and power to control another person. For me, it started with silent treatments and the withholding of love. When I didn’t do what he wanted, the affection changed. The communication changed. I learned that there were consequences for not meeting his expectations. Over time, that control evolved into financial and physical punishment, while the emotional manipulation continued. One of the hardest things to recognize is that the rules are rarely written down. You learn them through the consequences of breaking them. In this episode, I share my experience with how coercive control develops, how punishment can become a tool of control, and how you can slowly lose your sense of freedom without fully realizing what’s happening. We talk about:• The progression from emotional manipulation to other forms of abuse• Silent treatment and withholding affection as punishment• How fear and consequences can condition you to comply• Why you may begin changing your behavior to avoid a reaction• How control can become normalized over time• Recognizing the difference between healthy boundaries and controlling behavior• Reclaiming your voice, your autonomy, and your sense of self If you’ve ever found yourself constantly walking on eggshells, rehearsing conversations in your head, or changing your behavior to keep someone else from getting upset, I want you to know that you’re not alone. You deserve a relationship where love isn’t used as a reward, disagreement isn’t met with punishment, and your safety doesn’t depend on someone else’s mood. Healing begins with recognizing what happened — and understanding that you were never responsible for managing someone else’s choice to abuse their power. ⚠️ CONTENT WARNING: This episode discusses coercive control, emotional abuse, financial abuse, and physical abuse, including personal experiences. Some details may be distressing or triggering, particularly for survivors of domestic violence. Please listen at your own pace, prioritize your emotional safety, and feel free to pause or skip this episode if needed. You do not have to revisit painful experiences before you’re ready. This episode reflects my personal experience and is intended for educational and awareness purposes. It is not a substitute for professional mental health, legal, or domestic violence support.
