Shubz Says So

Martel Wikeepa

Shubz Says So is a live daily show streamed on YouTube Monday to Friday from 4pm to 7pm NZT. It’s real conversations about what’s going on in New Zealand and around the world. Politics, culture, sport, current affairs, controversy, everyday life and the stories people are actually talking about. I talk to politicians, candidates, commentators, athletes, veterans, community voices and everyday people with something worth saying. No echo chamber. No pretending everyone has to agree. Sometimes it’s serious, sometimes it’s funny, sometimes it gets heated, but the whole point is to have the conversation properly. If people are talking about it, we probably are too. Live Monday to Friday, 4pm to 7pm NZT on YouTube.

126 | David Seymour on Gangs, Growing Wages & Winning Votes

Why do we push university as the main path when plenty of young Kiwis would thrive in a trade? David Seymour joins Shubz to explain ACT’s proposals for trades training, apprenticeships and charter schools. We also discuss the cost of living, access to GPs, his criticism of political engagement with gangs and why choosing an electorate MP should come down to who will actually show up for you. Before that, Conservative Party candidate Karl Thomas makes his case on natural resources, electricity prices and energy security. We question him on emissions policy, immigration and the challenges smaller parties face getting heard during an election. Then Tama Singh returns for a wide-ranging yarn about campaign messaging, cash payments, digital surveillance, immigration and his views on men, women and voting. She outlines the questions she’s putting to authorities and why she wants clearer answers about costs to ordinary households. Dr Sheree Trotter returns to challenge recent commentary following a Māori delegation’s Israel trip. She gives her perspective on genocide allegations, Hamas, October 7 and why she believes comparisons between Māori and Palestinian experiences leave important differences out. Before that, Conservative Party candidate Doug shares his journey from 40 years in the fire service to standing in Northland. We also get into the Tāmaki campaign, strategic voting and the election ahead. Then the conversation gets deeply personal. Conservative Party leader Helen Houghton opens up about her experience of sexual abuse and why she decided to speak publicly. She and Shubz talk as survivors about silence, shame, trauma and why protecting children means having conversations people would rather avoid.
