    The aim of this season of the podcast Another Way by EqualCitizens.US was to explore whether two friends from high school, 40 years later, could find common ground around the presidency of Donald Trump. Ben Hepburn is a farmer and teacher living in Williamsport, Pennsylvania. We went to high school at Loyalsock Township Senior High School, graduating in 1979, as the first episode explains. Before the 2024 election, we met to discuss President Trump. Over the course of this season of the podcast Another Way, our conversation continued. This conversation this season is moved to this new podcast because my hope is that this new podcast could become a platform for a wider range of conversations.     S2E1: Howard Woodruff (recorded 6/4/26)

    As explained in this episode, this begins a new season of conversations with another friend of mine from high school. As I explain, I grew up in Williamsport, Pennsylvania — actually, Loyalsock Township. Williamsport is in the Kentucky part of Pennsylvania. Practically everyone was a Republican. I was a Republican too. Before the 2024 election, I went back to a high school reunion, something I had never done, to try to begin to understand how people I grew up with could be supporting President Trump. That trip began a conversation with a high school friend, Ben Hepburn. That conversation became Season 7 of the podcast Another Way, published by Equal Citizens. I’ve now moved that conversation to this podcast, and I’m beginning here a conversation with another high school friend, Howard Woodruff. The aspiration is that this podcast become a conversation between people generally. I’ve made a call in this podcast for anyone who wishes to produce a podcast that would try to curate conversations between people who support the president and people who don’t. I don’t have the cycles to run that project, but I very much believe that project could be helpful. At least, if the conversations could demonstrate that it was possible for people of different views to agree to decency and respect in a conversation about a topic that has become so divisive. If you think you could run such a podcast, send me a note. After the election, if there is adequate interest, I will pass control of this podcast to that producer/organizer.
