How to Build a Company That Lasts │ Harish Hande, SELCO Foundation . SELCO India

How do you build a company that lasts? Harish Hande, founder and CEO of SELCO Foundation and founder of SELCO India, shows what "lasting" really looks like. A customer who asks to see you on her deathbed. Families who buy from you because their grandparents did, without a single advertisement. A senior official who picks up your call at five in the morning. 100 of your 140 people, many from very poor families, writing to you: don't pay us for six months, we'll survive, you make it happen. And with less than $2,500 in the bank, being offered a million dollars to write a number you can't keep, and saying no. So what did he do that made so many people stand behind him? He went back to an old wisdom: for centuries, business was built on human relationships, not transactions. Since 1995, Harish and his teams, first at SELCO India and then at SELCO Foundation, have learned to see the whole forest: the families, technicians, bankers, vendors and communities around every need. Then they redesigned the ecosystem so everyone in it can last. Not a project. Not an exit. A web of people who have each other's back, for generations. If you've ever wondered what systems change and long-term development really look like on the ground, this is it. Episode 6 of The Ripple Map. Listen to the end for a question to try. Short on time? How do you help someone who won't even look at you? Claudia Fabiola González has spent 12 years at Fundación Paraguaya, today as a Women's Committee Advisor, walking beside women who lead their families in Paraguay's underserved communities. Episode 5 of The Ripple Map. What Really Causes Poverty? │ Martín Burt │ Fundación Paraguaya │ Poverty Stoplight │ The Ripple Map

Why do so many fights against poverty fail? For decades, governments measured poverty in money and asked economists what it meant. Dr. Martín Burt and his team asked the families. Dr. Martin Burt is the founder and CEO of Fundación Paraguaya and the Poverty Stoplight, the tool families use to rate their own lives in red, yellow and green, now in more than 60 countries. We talk about growing up under a dictatorship, why money is the easy part of poverty, why change cannot happen alone, a neighbourhood competition in Paraguay to fix one woman's smile, why companies use the Poverty Stoplight with their own workers, and his advice: ask why, again and again. "We are not in love with our solution. We are in love with the people who are suffering." About Dr. Burt: a Paraguayan social entrepreneur and the founder (1985) and CEO of Fundación Paraguaya, named Latin America's most impactful and innovative development organization by the Inter-American Development Bank. His latest books are "The Mirror and the Map" (2026), Paraguay without Poverty: A Practical Step-by-Step Guide (2023) and "Who Owns Poverty?" (2019). Housing Crisis: Who Made Homes Unaffordable? │ Leilani Farha, The Shift │ The Ripple Map

Why is housing so expensive? From Madrid to Vancouver, rent is out of reach and people are taking to the streets. Leilani Farha can tell you who made the housing crisis, and how communities are fighting back. Leilani is Global Director of The Shift, the 2026 CBC Massey Lecturer, and former UN Special Rapporteur on the Right to Housing. Her new book is Housing, Inc. From the jasmine she still remembers in Beirut to six years as the UN's housing expert, she found the same story everywhere: a crisis that was made, by people with names. We talk about who turned homes into investments, how banks, pension funds and big landlords profit when rents rise, why 2008 became a shopping spree, the case she lost against Canada, a community in Jakarta that found a way to stay, and her advice to every 20-year-old who feels something is wrong. "Housing and home is tantamount to breath. You need it to exist." Listen to the end, answer the question, and share this with someone who can't keep up with their rent. 🌊 Join the Ripplers: share what you're doing about housing with #Rippler, and join the conversation: https://theripplemap.com/join-the-conversation 🎟️ Greater Vancouver post-secondary students: win 1 of 8 free spots at Leilani's Massey Lecture + Rippler Talks (Fri Oct 23, York Theatre). He Came for His Teeth. She Saw the Whole Person. | Amber Lombardi, Mainely Teeth | The Ripple Map

Amber Lombardi sees the whole human being, and teeth are just the door. Amber was almost born in her dad's dental office, learned "street dentistry" beside her dad in Haiti, and later, as a young single mom, needed help she couldn't find. In 2020 she founded Mainely Teeth in Maine, where every patient is screened for what else is going on in their life before the dental exam, social workers are part of the team, and Findhelp is built in from day one. We talk about why access to care is a symptom, a veteran who hadn't cried in thirty years, a teenager who wouldn't smile, the gaps she still sees, and what she'd tell policymakers. "So the whole message is that teeth are just part of what we do. You're not meant to go it alone." Where Do You Go When You Need Help, and Who Connects You to It? | Erine Gray, Findhelp

Where do you go when you need help, and who connects you to it? At 17, Erine Gray watched his mom lose her memory almost overnight, and later spent 24 years as her legal guardian navigating the system. He tried to fix it from inside government; when that wasn't fast enough, he started Findhelp, the platform millions of people now use to find food, housing, help with bills and more. We talk about the stigma of asking for help, a $99 company and the seven-page signup form that almost ended it, why Findhelp chose to be a for-profit, what trust really costs, what millions of searches reveal, and why every line in a database is a human being. "If I knew how hard it was going to be, I never would have done it. But it's the best thing that ever happened."
