Evening Reflections

Paul Benevich

The day gives us the story. The quiet helps us understand it. Evening Reflections is a collection of true stories about the moments that shape our lives—family, friendship, love, loss, work, change, purpose, and the unexpected lessons we often don't recognize until later. Hosted by Paul Benevich, each episode begins with a story and ends with something more: a few thoughtful questions and a little space to reflect on your own life. These aren't stories with all the answers. They're invitations to slow down, look back, notice what matters, and perhaps see something differently. Settle in at the quiet end of the day. Listen in bed, turn down the noise, and let the story take you wherever it takes you. A story for tonight. A reflection for tomorrow.

    The Two Speeds of Life

Episode 04 — The Two Speeds of Life Description Life seems to move at two very different speeds. There are seasons when we run. We chase opportunities. Success. Relationships. Experiences. The next goal. The next version of the life we think we're supposed to build. And then there are seasons when life stops us in our tracks. In this deeply personal episode of Evening Reflections, Paul shares how the collapse of his business and marriage forced him from the speed of the rabbit into the pace of the tortoise—and how an unlikely ritual with his grandmother changed the way he saw his life. At 4 a.m., after returning home from bartending, Paul would help his bedridden grandmother out of bed. They'd make coffee, sit together in the dark kitchen, and watch the squirrels outside the window. It sounds like such a small thing. But sometimes the smallest moments are the ones that change us. For the first time, Paul wasn't chasing anything. He wasn't trying to prove anything or get somewhere else. He was simply present. And slowly, he began noticing things he'd been moving too fast to see. The Two Speeds of Life is a reflection on ambition, loss, grief, presence, and discovering that slowing down doesn't always mean we're falling behind. Sometimes life slows us down so we can finally see what has been there all along. As you listen, consider: What are you chasing because you truly want it—and what are you chasing because someone else convinced you it mattered? When people remember your life one day, will they remember how fast you ran... or how deeply you loved? What if the season you're trying hardest to escape has something important to teach you? 🎧 Listen to The Two Speeds of Life. The reflection continues at eveningreflections.com. Read the story.
