The Audacity To Put Yourself In The Recipe with Chef Tashia Farries

NOTE: This episode includes discussion of disordered eating, caregiving, dementia and aging parents, and anticipatory grief. Take care of yourself while you listen. Healing your relationship with food rarely looks like a cure. It looks like slowing down, getting curious, and letting the kitchen become a safe place again. This week Adrienne opens with her own story: learning about her disordered eating, and how she has been nurturing and supporting herself since, taking her time with food and learning new recipes until she found her love for it. Then she sits down with Chef Tashia Farries, who learned everything she knows standing next to her mother in the kitchen. Tashia began her career as a behavioral therapist working with people with disabilities, and she made the meals in those group homes from scratch. That love is how she came up with Pinch of Love, and she now cooks for some of the most famous tables in Los Angeles. They talk about being the keeper of a recipe that someone you love can no longer remember, what it means to grieve a parent who is still here, and why Tashia tells everyone to put themselves in their recipes. They also cover family, comfort food, and feeding picky toddlers. Support Pinch of Love Catering, Tashia's Los Angeles based private chef and event catering company. A lot of us went straight from a childhood where safety was not guaranteed into an adulthood where we assumed it never would be. So we got competent instead. We got impressive. Mosley, a counseling psychologist who has spent her career building healing ecosystems for Black, queer, and trans folks. In adulthood, after an unspeakable betrayal, Della had to go find safety for herself, on purpose – work that took her into conversations most of us spend decades avoiding.
