Episode 5: How County Government Works

🎙️ A NEW EPISODE OF KINGDOM TALK IS HERE! Decisions made in county government affect our everyday lives—from the roads we travel and the services we depend on to how our tax dollars are spent and the future of our community. But how much do we really understand about how county government works, who makes these decisions, and how we can have a voice in the process? In this episode of Kingdom Talk, I sit down with Mark Harrison, Chairman of the Sumner County Commission, for an informative conversation about the structure of county government, the responsibilities of our elected officials, and how decisions are made that impact the families of Sumner County. We take a closer look at the role of the County Commission, how local government operates, and why understanding the process is an important part of being an informed and engaged citizen. Because the decisions being made today will help shape the community our children inherit tomorrow. My hope is that this conversation encourages you to ask questions, seek understanding, and recognize that your voice matters. You don’t have to hold public office to make a difference. Sometimes, making a difference begins with simply becoming informed. 📖 FAITH MOMENT “For lack of guidance a nation falls, but victory is won through many advisers.” — Proverbs 11:14 (NIV) Scripture reminds us of the importance of wisdom, counsel, and responsible leadership. As citizens, we have an opportunity to seek understanding, pray for those entrusted with leadership, and take an active role in the communities God has placed us in. Being informed is not just about politics. It’s about stewardship. ▶️ WATCH EPISODE 5 ON YOUTUBE Join me for this important conversation about the government closest to home. Then come back and join the conversation: 💬 If you could ask your county commissioners ONE question about how Sumner County government operates, what would it be? Leave your thoughts in the comments. Episode 4:Who Really Makes the Decisions in Our Schools?

🎙️ A NEW EPISODE OF KINGDOM TALK IS HERE! Your child spends thousands of hours in school—but do you know who makes the policies, approves the budget, helps determine curriculum, and sets the direction behind those classroom doors? In this episode of Kingdom Talk, I sit down with Dr. Scott Langford and Tammy Hayes for an important conversation about how our schools actually work—and what parents need to know. We talk about the role of the Sumner County School Board, how curriculum and policy decisions are made, where school funding comes from, school safety and SROs, technology in our schools, and what parents can do when they have a question or concern. One of my biggest takeaways from this conversation is simple: Parents don’t have to wait until there’s a crisis to become informed. Know who represents you. Ask questions. Read the agenda. Attend a meeting. Support what is good—and respectfully speak up when something needs attention. 📖 “And who knows but that you have come to your royal position for such a time as this?” — Esther 4:14 ▶️ WATCH EPISODE 4 ON YOUTUBE Then come back and join the conversation: 💬 What is ONE thing you wish more parents understood about how decisions are made in our schools? Episode 1:Why Government Matters?

In the very first episode of Kingdom Talk with Macy King, I share the personal moment that caused me to start paying closer attention to what was happening in my community—and ultimately helped inspire this podcast. As parents, families, and citizens, the environments around us shape what we see, hear, and accept as normal. That includes our schools, our culture, our communities, and the decisions being made by local leaders. In this episode, we talk about why local government matters, why informed citizens matter, and why paying attention to what is happening close to home is so important. 📖 Scripture:Romans 12:2 reminds us: “Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.” We don’t have to know everything about government to begin paying attention. We can listen. We can learn. We can ask questions. And we can become better informed about the community we call home. In this episode: • The personal story behind Kingdom Talk• Why local government affects our everyday lives• The importance of knowing what our children are being exposed to• Why informed citizens strengthen their communities• The role of faith, discernment, and wisdom in civic engagement• Simple ways to start learning about your local government Your Listener Challenge This week, take one step. Find out who represents you locally. Learn the name of one elected official, look at an upcoming public meeting, or spend a few minutes learning how your county government works. You don’t have to become an expert overnight. Just start paying attention. What we protect today shapes tomorrow. 👑 Kingdom Talk with Macy KingFaith. Family. Freedom.
