The Breasties, Motherhood, and Life After Cancer with Allie Brumel

Allie Brumel, COO and co-founder of The Breasties, joins Christina Thomas to share how a breast cancer diagnosis led her to seek out community and create a nonprofit supporting people affected by breast and gynecologic cancers. Allie also opens up about fertility and motherhood after cancer and how her experience navigating breastfeeding became a catalyst for advocacy. She also reflects on the painful experience of being prescribed a breast pump after a double mastectomy, and the lack of guidance many families face when they need alternative ways to feed their babies. She talks about working with Bobbie and creating Connie’s Bill (H.R. 9007) to expand access to formula and donor milk. For survivors navigating questions about community, fertility, motherhood, or life after treatment, Allie’s story offers a reminder: you are not alone, and your lived experience can help create change for others. Conversation Highlights Allie shares that she was diagnosed with breast cancer at 27 shortly after her wedding. She struggled to find people her age who understood the cancer experience, so Allie searched for community, hosted grassroots meetups and retreats which laid the foundation for The Breasties. She opens up about pre- and post-treatment fertility treatments, and the emotional complexity of building a family after cancer.Allie explains how partnering with Bobbie has supported families in need of alternative options to breastfeeding and helped spotlight a broader gap in healthcare. This led to  Connie’s Bill (H.R. 9007), a pilot program that provides financial assistance for purchasing medically necessary infant formula or donor milk.Learn more and follow Allie Brumel and The Breasties The Breasties: https://thebreasties.org/  Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/the_breasties https://www.instagram.com/alliebrumel/  Website: https://everybodylovesboobs.com/  Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/everybodylovesboobsbrand/  Join the Boobment, add Everybody Loves Boobs to your podcast library! What an Oncologist Wants You to Know About Breast Cancer Symptoms, Myths, and Risk

Double board certified hematologist oncologist and MyCandor president Dr. Maurice Berkowitz joins Christina Thomas for a myth-busting conversation about breast cancer. They cover common fears, what the science actually says, and how patients can advocate for themselves without feeling fear.  While debunking myths – like does deodorant cause breast cancer? – Dr. Berkowitz and Christina discuss why knowledge is power, especially when it comes to breast cancer screening and genetic risk. He also provides insight into emerging research and clinical trials for breast cancer care. Conversation Highlights Dr. Berkowitz explains that breast cancer does not always start with a lump. Changes such as nipple retraction, discharge, bleeding, or skin changes should be checked by a healthcare professional. He explains that 80% of breast cancer cases are considered sporadic rather than genetically inherited.Though genetic mutations such as BRCA1 and BRCA2 may increase risk, a cancer diagnosis is not guaranteed.Dr. Berkowitz emphasizes that asking questions, seeking a second opinion, and finding a care team that communicates clearly can help patients feel more informed and empowered.Learn more and follow MyCandor MyCandor:  https://mycandor.org/  Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/my.candor/  Website: https://everybodylovesboobs.com/  Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/everybodylovesboobsbrand/  Join the Boobment, add Everybody Loves Boobs to your podcast library! Introducing Everybody Loves Boobs: The Podcast

Everybody Loves Boobs: The Podcast is about surviving, thriving, and reclaiming your story after breast cancer treatment. Host Christina Thomas was diagnosed with breast cancer in November 2022 and began treatment soon after. While she had an amazing community supporting her throughout treatment, Christina wasn’t prepared for what came next. Life post treatment brought changes like brain fog, weight gain, and changes in her hair, body, and sense of identity. There was so much conversation around getting through cancer, but far less about what happens after treatment ends. As Christina began navigating this new chapter and connecting with others who were struggling, she realized how much of the survivorship experience was still going unspoken. That became the inspiration behind Everybody Loves Boobs, a brand created to continue the conversation around survivorship, bring more attention to life after treatment, and remind people that survivorship is not the end of the story. Everybody Loves Boobs: The Podcast explores what it means to move beyond diagnosis and embrace life on your own terms. Through candid conversations with survivors, advocates, and healthcare experts, Everybody Loves Boobs dives into the complex realities of cancer survivorship. Using breasts as both a literal and symbolic entry point, the podcast examines the many ways cancer may shape our relationship with our bodies, while celebrating the resilience, growth, and self-discovery that come with reclaiming your story.
