Leadpocalypse - When the Curtain Gets Pulled Back

This episode is inspired by a talk by Carrie and David Grant at an event created by G Sabini- Roberts and Regina Martin called Disrupticon. What happens when the story we tell ourselves about our leadership no longer matches what people are actually experiencing? Sometimes the most important leadership moments come when the curtain gets pulled back, and something we could previously avoid becomes impossible to ignore. In this episode of Leadruption, Emma Last explores Leadpocalypse, the moment when hidden gaps in trust, inclusion, culture, and leadership experience are finally unveiled. In this episode, we explore: What Leadpocalypse means, and how it connects to the Say–Do Gap.Why statements like “we’re inclusive”, “we listen” and “we care about wellbeing” need to be tested against what people actually experience. Why leaders can be tempted to answer deep cultural or trust problems with quick, shallow solutions. The importance of disruptors, bridge-builders, and perspectives from the margins when the existing leadership story no longer holds up.Two questions to consider: Where in your leadership might the curtain need pulling back? And, if it reveals a gap, who gets to help decide what fills it? Informed leadership isn’t simply about having more information. It’s about being willing to let new information change something. Because the real test of leadership isn’t what we say before the curtain is pulled back. It’s what we’re prepared to do with the truth once we can see it. Want more Leadruption? Assumptocracy - When “Everyone Knows” Becomes the Evidence

Some leadership decisions are based on data. Some are based on experience. And some are based on something somebody said in a meeting four years ago that has now somehow become organisational fact. In this episode of Leadruption, Emma Last explores Assumptocracy, the system where assumptions get repeated so confidently that nobody can quite remember whether they were ever true in the first place. In this episode, we explore: What Assumptocracy is, and how phrases like “everyone knows”, “they always” and “that would never work” can start carrying more weight than actual evidence. How assumptions gain authority over time, until “someone once said” quietly turns into “that’s just how things are here”. The difference between knowledge, experience, and interpretation, and why experience matters without making us infallible. Why leaders need to ask what is evidence, what is interpretation, what is inherited belief, and what may no longer be true. One of the simplest and most useful leadership questions: “How do we know?” Assumptions are efficient. They save us from having to ask, check or gather evidence. The slight problem is they can also save us from discovering we were completely wrong. Pasted markdown So today, listen out for the phrases: “Obviously…” “Everyone knows…” “They always…” “They never…” And ask: Is this something we know, or something we have said so many times that it now feels like knowledge? Because informed leadership is not about doubting everything. It is about knowing which things are worth checking. Want more Leadruption? Resultsibility - It’s Not Just What You Achieve. It’s What Achieving It Creates.

We love a good result. Revenue up, project delivered, target smashed, everyone clap. But what we ask less often is what it took to get there, who carried the cost, and what we left behind on the way. In this episode of Leadruption, Emma Last explores Resultsibility, the idea that how we achieve something becomes part of what we achieve. In this episode, we explore: What Resultsibility means, and why ambitious performance and responsibility should sit together. Why a result can look brilliant on a spreadsheet while creating very different consequences for people, clients, trust, reputation, or health. Why leaders need to look beyond what is easy to measure, such as revenue, output, deadlines, and sales, and pay attention to the experiences their leadership creates. Why the real question is not only “Did we get the result?” but “What did the result create?” A question to consider: What experience will the way you pursue this result create for you and for the people around you? Sustainable success is not simply repeating the number. It is creating results in a way that does not slowly consume the people, trust, or systems needed to keep producing them.
