For years, he thought many of the frightening rules and legends surrounding the Appalachian wilderness were little more than internet folklore. Then something happened to him on a remote trail that changed the way he looked at those woods forever.While riding a four-wheeler home alone after dark, Logan says a basketball-sized rock suddenly flew out of the brush at head level, passing so close that he felt the air move across his face. Seconds later, he heard a deep, powerful grunt coming from the darkness. As he tried to escape, his ATV began running out of fuel, and something large started crashing through the woods behind him.Years later, Logan and several friends went camping in another secluded area of Appalachia. After the sun went down, they began hearing what sounded like invisible footsteps moving through the creek toward their campsite. Then something raced around them in the darkness. Voices began speaking from somewhere in the woods, eventually becoming clear enough for all four of them to hear the same warning:“You need to leave.”As they prepared to escape, Logan says they discovered a towering black figure leaning casually against their four-wheeler. It had no visible face, no eyes, and appeared darker than the night surrounding it. All four witnesses say they saw the figure before it suddenly disappeared toward nearby train tunnels.But the strangest part of the story came years later, when a family member revealed that he believed he had encountered the same mysterious “man in the hat” after suffering a serious accident in those same woods.In this episode of Dreadful, Inc.     Face to Face With the Jersey Devil

    In October 2009, 17-year-old Matt was deer hunting deep in New Jersey's Pine Barrens when he noticed a strange figure watching him from behind a tree. For five hours, he remained trapped in his tree stand, terrified of what was lurking in the darkness. Then came an ear-piercing scream, followed by something he claims he'll never forget: a winged creature with glowing red eyes staring directly at him. Convinced he was looking at the legendary Jersey Devil, Matt drew his pistol and fired. Seventeen years later, the experience still haunts him. But that's not Matt's only disturbing encounter. He also recounts witnessing mysterious objects emerging from the Atlantic Ocean while working aboard an offshore vessel.     When Danny was 13 years old, his family moved into a house on a Mohawk reservation, just steps away from a Catholic-run school. The previous occupants had seemingly abandoned the home without warning, leaving behind food, clothing, and personal belongings. It wasn't long before Danny and his family began experiencing things they couldn't explain. Objects moved on their own. Furniture was thrown across rooms. Danny's brother even claimed he woke up floating above his bed. But as Danny learned more about the neighboring school's disturbing history and the mistreatment of Native American children, he began to suspect that the activity inside his home was connected to something much darker. Were the spirits of those children still lingering on the property? And was something else there with them?
