Morning Take — Monday, November 2: A Bounce Attempt After October's Bruise

Monday opens with tech trying to find its footing after a bruising October. The Nasdaq fell more than five percent last month, its worst month since March 2025, closing with a sharp Friday selloff as investors questioned heavy AI spending and waited for stronger results. Futures point higher this morning with tech leading a bounce attempt, helped by oil falling back below one hundred dollars a barrel on hopes for talks to ease the Middle East conflict, which takes pressure off gas prices and travel costs. Chip stocks tried to rebound and Intel steadied after Friday's plunge. After the close, Apple and Palantir report earnings, the first big test of a week that also brings a factory report today, midterm elections tomorrow, and the jobs report Friday. In today's Morning Take Jia explains the beginner word of the day in plain English: bounce, what happens after a sharp fall when buyers step back in, and why a bounce is not a verdict until good news follows. Morning Take — Friday, October 30: Strong Growth Is Not Enough

Friday opens with tech under pressure again. Thursday the Nasdaq led stocks lower as Alphabet had its worst day on record, even though most market groups finished higher and the economy grew faster than expected with inflation still sticky. After the close the pattern repeated. Amazon's cloud business grew at its fastest pace in nearly five years, yet its stock fell hard before the open on a softer outlook and heavy spending. Intel beat expectations for the quarter just finished, then warned the next quarter will be weaker, and fell more than twenty percent. Nasdaq futures are down about two percent this morning. In today's Morning Take Jia explains the beginner word of the day in plain English: guidance, what a company tells you it expects next, and why markets trade on tomorrow, not yesterday. Morning Take — Thursday, October 29: AI Spending Must Show Cash

Thursday opens split after Microsoft and Alphabet told two versions of the same AI story. Microsoft rose after a strong report with cash to spare, while Alphabet fell about 10 percent in premarket trading after heavy AI spending turned its cash flow negative, even as its cloud business more than doubled. The Federal Reserve held rates steady on Wednesday, with two voters wanting a raise instead, so today's growth report and the PCE inflation reading the Fed watches most closely are the next clue on December. After the close, Amazon and Intel face the same test. In today's Morning Take Jia explains the beginner phrase of the day in plain English: free cash flow, the cash a company has left after running the business and paying for buildings, servers and equipment, and why investors ask how the bill gets paid when it turns negative. Education only, not investment advice.#stockmarket #investing #stocks #podcast #FreeCashFlow

Morning Take — Wednesday, October 28: Fed Decides, Big Tech Reports

Wednesday is a double header. The Federal Reserve announces its rate decision this afternoon, with most watchers expecting rates to stay right where they are, so the words after the decision matter more than the decision itself, especially anything about oil and inflation. Oil is back around $101 a barrel this morning after an attack on a refinery in Saudi Arabia raised fresh supply worries. Then after the close, Microsoft and Alphabet report, and in today's Morning Take Jia explains the beginner phrase of the day in plain English: capital spending, the money companies pour into buildings, servers and chips today hoping it turns into growth tomorrow, and how to listen for whether all that AI spending is paying off in real cloud growth. Education only, not investment advice.#stockmarket #investing #stocks #podcast #BigTechEarnings

Morning Take — Tuesday, October 27: Waiting On The Fed

Futures are flat this morning after Monday's bounce back in AI stocks, and the market is in wait-and-see mode. Oil is hovering around $102 a barrel near its highest levels in weeks, the Federal Reserve starts its two-day meeting today with a decision tomorrow, and earnings roll on with Coca-Cola, Boeing and PayPal before the open and Alphabet, Microsoft and Amazon later this week. In today's Morning Take, Jia explains the beginner lesson of the week in plain English: when the Fed is expected to hold rates steady, the decision itself is not the story, the tone is. Listen for whether the Fed sounds worried about inflation or more comfortable, because that tone is what shapes borrowing costs from mortgages to car loans. Education only, not investment advice. #stockmarket #investing #stocks #podcast #FederalReserve

Morning Take — Monday, October 26: Earnings Week Tests AI Spending

Futures are higher Monday morning after a down Friday, oil is easing, and the week ahead packs a Federal Reserve decision plus earnings from about a third of the S&P 500. In today's Morning Take, Jia explains cash flow in plain English, the actual money moving in and out of a business, and why investors are asking whether big AI spending is turning into real cash and paying customers. Education only, not investment advice. More at stockmystocks.com/podcast

Morning Take — Friday, October 23: Red Index, Green Breadth Underneath

The Nasdaq fell 2.6% on Thursday and Meta slid nearly 7%, yet most stocks actually rose. Jia explains breadth in plain English, why a weighted index can fall while the average stock climbs, and why Brent crude near $113 is the number to watch. Education only, not financial advice.

Morning Take — Thursday, October 22: AI Bills Come Due Again

Meta and Tesla both beat earnings, and both still slid, because the market stopped asking about sales and started asking what the AI buildout costs. Jia breaks down capital spending in plain English, and what it means for regular investors. Education only, not financial advice.
